I was fortunate enough to meet AK and Tie Flies with him one afternoon. He showed us some of the tricks he used to tie patterns a bit faster and to be more attractive. He is the kind of person I would like to be as I age through fly tying.
I feel like I'm watching an artist. This fly, as simple of a tie as it may seem, is so lifelike and so wonderfully tied. I sure appreciated this video.
Funny. I've never seen this video and I just happened to tie the exact fly pattern, But with brown hackle and grizzly hackle for the wing. Can't wait to swing it.
Great fly. Can I get onto another subject? With all the dubbing you have collected, how and what do you use to store and organize it in? My plastic bin turns into a jumbled pile.

An absolute master tier. Thanks for sharing! Wish there was more of AK, and Gierach, on TH-cam...
Glad you enjoyed it!

I was fortunate enough to meet and learn from A K years ago at the old Hunters Fly Shop in New Boston NH. What a great experience!
I still think of A K when I read John Gierach.
he has so much pride, yet is so humble about his work it's hard not to just smile through the whole video.
The winged beetle, AK the master tier. "I'm old enough now to know..............", AK the philosopher.
I am fresh from breaking a bit of a lean spell with this pattern...thank you!.
Great!

I wonder if AK is the very last commercial fly tier in America?
