I think this is what I used to eat growing up in the 70’s I’m from England and we called it black syrup. We used light syrup in it also and I think my nanny called it Dark Jamaican syrup cake. You can’t buy it now. They replaced it with something far too sweet. I’m going to try this recipe. Thank you you you and your lovely husband for the information. What beautiful home you have a beautiful marriage to from me looking at a few of your videos. I hope god blesses you both to a long happy life together. Probably the sweetest coupe I’ve seen on TH-cam and I’m an American TH-cam channel addict :) with love and prayers from 🏴
OMG Lori, My grandson and I just made this cake, "I would call this GODS cake, it is so good, I mean really good, really" He is 11 years old he bakes and cooks with me a lot. When we are done, I ask him to give it grade and remarks. 1,000,000 x10 - grade. Extraordinary - remarks. He is home schooled, this is todays homec lesson. So, as my husband would say, " Lori, My Dear. you have outdone yourself again." The cake was outstanding. I am in love with Mr. Brown, Just the facts Mam. Thank you both for a wonderful video. Judy from Wisconsin PS I Hope my grandson and his grandchildren will be making" GODS CAKE" fifty years from now, with this handwritten recipe from Lori Brown, and Memories.
One of my little boys(that's 45 years old now!) was kind underweight and sickly. An older lady friend of mine told me to mix up a bit of molasses in cold milk and let him drink some every day. Well, he really liked it and it sure helped his appetite. He picked up weight and even his red blood cell count got better. Just one of the old fashioned ways that helped me raise my kids.
Wow. This is good to know, I have a grandson, who doesn't eat good, I may try this
God Bless,xoxoxo
You are so what we need in our lives, Jesus, family and love! Thank you!
Thank you Betty, we all need each other, to pray with, to encourage, to love, sometimes just kind words like you have sent, God Bless, xoxoxo

I like the fact that there is medical research to back up the eating of this cake! Another excellent video Ms Lori. x
I love how you say that grandmother made the cake often because it was grandpa's favorite. So nice to be reminded of a time when women spent time in their kitchens making food that showed love for their husbands and families even after years of marriage. ❤❤❤
Oh yes, I even have people say how I spoil mr. Brown, no, it's just love, xoxoxo
Amen to that
"and that's your medical news for today". Unfortunately I had just taken a drink of water and spit it all over myself. I enjoy your videos tremendously. I would give anything to be able to go back in time when people were kind and genuine like both of y'all. Can't wait to bake the cake. God bless you both.
Hahaha, Merry, hes funny! Xoxoxo
He's funny that made me laugh out loud too. You can feel the love in this home and the food cooked here.
Merry Guerrero we love these two precious folks😍
My grandma used to make what she called Poor Mans Cupcakes which is similar to this recipe. She used leftover coffee instead of water and added raisins but the spices are the same. I still make it to this day. I love old fashioned recipes.
Oh my love it, the coffee and raisins in it, I know that was so good! Xoxoxo
Judy Kaspar this sounds so good. my mother baked these in loaf pans and called them Spanish bar cakes. oh I could eat one right now.
I love to cook with molasses.
I could sit and watch your videos all day.
Watched your preparation of the molasses ginger bread cake👍👍👍 oh my oh my...I will be making it mid-August. Genuinely enjoyed your video. You folks strike a cord in me, reminding me of how my Gran, mom and my sis and I worked together in the kitchen before all holidays, cooking, decorating, cleaning, washing in our old wringer washer, hanging clothes on clothes line, oh how I miss those glorious days of the 40’s and 50’s. Thank you so much for sharing your life on your homestead. 🙏💗
Thank you Barbara, God Bless,xoxoxo
I watched your video on the books you bought at garage sales. I have the the Betty Crocker’s picture cook book but I couldn’t find a date either but I did find that the book was given to my aunt as a gift in 1951 and it cost $2.95. My mom inherited the book and pasted other receipts on the blank pages. Bless her sole she passed away at the age of 101. My sister and I was going through all of her cook books and found one my grandmother had Watkins Cook Book dated 1945 and it cost $1.50. We found out my grandfather use to sale Watkins products. I love looking at all the old receipts and I’m with you some I never heard of and I’m 77 years old. Love your videos they bring back memories of how we were raised and how I miss those days. God Bless
E Rice I have the 1948 7th edition of the Watkins cook book. I got it from my mom. I don't know how she acquired it, but it was not new where ever it came from.
Oh, Lori, when I saw the little gingerbread man at the beginning of your video my eyes filled up. I remembered my mother used to make them. We always had some kind of home baked goodies for a snack when we came home from school. She made gingerbread too. I prefer old fashioned simple cake without Icing. My mother didn't use blackstrap molasses but I do because it's so good for you and I like a strong molasses taste. I even put it on my oatmeal. (I wrote all that before Mr. Brown told us about his research!) my mother used to make cough syrup with molasses too that I still make. It has one cup of molasses and about a third of a cup of apple cider vinegar. Put in a medium yellow onion ciut in big pieces. Put it on the stove , bring to a boil, then turn down the heat and simmer uncovered until the onion is soft and the mixture is reduced by about one third. Onion and vinegar are natural antibiotics and the molasses coats your throat when it tickles and makes you cough. It works real good, and you can take as much as you want, as often as you need, without side effects like store bought cough medicine. I will try your maple glaze, sounds delicious! Thank you, and God bless you and Danny!
Oh wow, thanks for sharing, Mr. Brown, gets a cough every winter, xoxoxo
This takes me back. Also, I love that Mr. Brown did the research for us.
Yes Mr Brown...thanks for medical news update!!
I just finished a book about eastern Kentucky , “ the Book Woman of Troublesome Creek.”and I found your channel today, perfect timing. It was a book that you couldn’t put down. Now I have a source for wonderful old long forgotten recipes of Appalachia. It was a God Wink. Love your channel.
it's done! Judy, what is this book about. I'm intrigued, xoxoxo
Whippoorwill Holler it is about the blue people of Kentucky, which I knew absolutely nothing about, but it is also about the women who took books into the hollers on horses, mules, walked etc in1936 era, in President Roosevelt , WPA era. Was fascinating, sad, happy, etc. I read it in one day, until 1 am this morning. Will definitely reread it. Tells about the scrapbooks these book women made for the women in the hollers, how things got shared, etc, one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. I would highly recommend it. Especially with your love and talent for sharing these many lost recipes and stories. I’m a from scratch cooker , most of the time , and I know we are a dying breed. When they give back the respect that a homemaker and a stay at home mother deserves , when women once again consider that a career, we will all be better for it. These women in Troublesome Creek are unsung heroes of our past. May God bless you and bless us all.. Judy
I so enjoy all your videos, they remind me of family, love and God.....it gets no better than that!
My aunt Agnes used to make molasses cookies. It was such a treat to go to her farm because we always knew Aunt Aggie always had a stash of molasses cookies.
A great cake video for all of us vintage recipe lovers! I use a lot of molasses when I make cowboy beans and I add it to commercial baked beans to intensify the flavor. I want to mention that a little molasses added to granulated sugar makes brown sugar (in case beginning cooks do not know how to make their own brown sugar.)
I do the same thing julie, makes them so good, good tip with the Brown sugar! Xoxoxo
I love watching you & your husband you bring back the way I grew up. thank you
That was just the thing I was looking for. My Mama, used to make it and it was an old family recipe. She never wrote it anywhere. I've been trying to get it like hers and it never was quite right. I didn't use the black strap molasses. That was the problem. 😄She did add raisins sometimes. She made the maple syrup glaze for it with a little lemon juice added. If company was coming, she would put flaked coconut on top. I loved that cake. This is just perfect. Tell Mr. Brown, on really cold days when I was a kid, she would heat milk and add molasses to drink with homemade cinnamon toast cause it was good for you. Thank you for bringing back lovely memories.
I really liked the medical news and it did help with understanding molasses thank you so much and the cake looks wonderful. I remember my dad talking about the use of blackstrap molasses on the farm not sure where. I sure learned a lot of good things from you in baking. Some I had forgotten all about and a lot of new ones. In your video traveling through Hardy. Looks like the town I grew up in Lepanto. Great memories there My daddy was the mortician there in the late 1940's and he drove the ambulance. He was the one that picked up Johnny Cash's brother Jack Cash when he got hurt with the electric saw. My dad told me Jack Cash was at school when he got hurt. They never tell it that way in the movies or documentary's but that was where he was when my dad picked him up. He was severely hurt my dad said. My great grandmother and her family lived across the road from the Cash's in Dyess . I love your videos. Thank you so much. I know you both are very busy and probably not easy to add another thing to do. So I appreciate it.
You can also have blackstrap sorgham, which is different from blackstrap molasses. Sorgham is a different type of sugar cane, and the best molasses is from ribbon cane (although plain sugar cane is more often found now). When I was little, we would go to different places around that would make the different types using a horse or mule to grind them cane. The would run the juice through a set of troughs over fires to boil it. When it reached the end, it was thick and sweet. We used to sneak and get a little bit of cane and chew on it, it was delicious!
I have also watched the process of grinding of sugar cane and the fires that boil it and gathered the goodness at the end of the process Thanks for watching
Here in Ireland this is known as Jamaica cake. We Love it! So excited about butter milk ice cream! Cee from the little haunted cottage in Ireland 💚💚💚🍀🍀🍀
Love you cee, xoxoxo
Awww, you are so sweet!Love Cee 💚

Danny it is so beautiful! Cee from the little haunted cottage in Ireland 💚💚💚🍀🍀🍀
My Mom used to make this for "us" while we were growing up, but I do believe she made it more for herself, lol, and included us, my Dad, myself and 2 siblings!!! My Mom and Dad are gone now, but us kids still love this!!!
Her extra special way of serving it, hot and cold, was to add a good serving of cold applesauce over the top....never any frosting! She would make it to serve with an evening meal and come supper the next night we would each get one more piece and then it was gone!!! Of course, it didn't help that we had all had a slice for lunch that day as well!! LOL!!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS Y'all!!!
Oh that gorgeous cake is just begging for mounds of sweetened whipped cream piled over the top! Looks delicious!!!
My Mom used to make gingerbread cake and served it with “hard sauce”. You don’t see that used at all anymore. Time to get bakin’!
Hello Ms Lori. I’m new to your channel viewers. I just love you and Mr. Brown. Y’all are such a lovely couple. I pray for continued blessings for you both. With this cake it brings tears of joy for me because my grandma made this for us in the 1960s. I never got the recipe but I remembered the cake. Thank you for this. I’m fixing for our next family get-together and see who else will remember our Big Mama and this cake. 🥰
I have felt this prompting to study about the Appalachia’s and in doing so I came across your channel . What a blessing . I live in Oregon however I have one grandpa born in North Carolina and the other grandparents from Oklahoma. Many of our meals and baked goods growing up are the same . I’ve no momma and daddy or grandparents alive and tradition is really hitting home with me . I’m a gramma now and I love to bake and cook for the whole crew . Our country is so angry right now politically and I run from it and instead am trying to learn as much as I can about our country . Your South Eastern states just speak to my soul and if I’d never have been reading and watching documentaries I’d have never found the joy of your channel . You are doing exactly what your supposed to be right now and I’m certain every subscriber agrees ... the peace , the tears , the memories that all coming flooding back are just what we need . Instead of so much progress we need to roll back and remember the integrity of what a good wife , momma and grandma are all about , then and now ... thank you so much - God bless you always
Diana, your story humbles me, I love it, I think about my childhood, no bathroom, woodcook stove, outhouse, bathing at the creek, grandmas cooking, Andy Griffin show, it was so innocent, God Bless, xoxoxo
We've gotta have some sassafras tea to go with that molasses gingerbread! I remember my step-grandmother making sassafras tea when I lived in Florida as a kid. It tasted like root beer.
I remember my grandpa digging sassafras roots for tea, xoxoxo
My granny used to make sassafras tea too! There was a tree in her back pasture she would send us to, and we would dig up the roots and take to her! What memories! It was in Ft Smith AR.
Molasses was what we gave the cattle on the farm and they loved it.
It’s not something I have in my pantry (yet) or have ever used but with all of these delicious recipes using it, I have just added it to my shopping list.
Thanks Lori & Mr Brown 😊
It's very good for you, alot of no value xoxoxo
I'm so glad you got to make so many memories with your grandma and share them. I too spent a lot of time with my Dad's mother. I loved her so much, she was a fount of wisdom for me and a good cook. She could make a meal with a few cents worth of ingredients and skill. I sure miss her.
Grandmas are the best! Xoxoxo
Been on low carb since Feb lost.96 lbs but come Nov 11 i will have a stack came thank you love to watch
Congratulations John thats something to be proud of! is Nov. 11 your Birthday? xoxoxo
Love your old fashioned recipes! Brings back so many memories. My grandma did all her amazing cooking on a wood stove. Just wondering if you or anyone has ever heard of something she made-coffee syrup. She’d use her left over coffee and add some brown sugar to it and make a syrup that was so good to sop her homemade bread in. Yum ! Keep the recipes coming. Blessings on your day.
Oh my, never heard of it, but I will have to check that out! Xoxoxo
that sounds like the Italian Cafe late only not brown sugar regular sugar..it is yum and sweet!
Molasses/Gingerbread cake is one of my faves! I stumbled on your video by accident (although it was meant to be 🤗) a month or so ago & I've watched all of your videos in one day. I couldn't stop watching them, now I'm re-watching. You & Mr. Brown are adorable! I come from a long line of farming people both in the mid-west & the south you both live as I grew up. I miss that life style. You both bring back so many wonderful memories for me. Love & Blessings to you both.
One thing I can say for sure is we are the real deal, not a TH-cam make-believe what you see is our everyday life and the way we have been all our life, we have downsized a lot getting ready for golden years Thank you so much for your kind words stop back in some time for a cup cowboy coffee
Thank you Mary, I appreciate your kind words, farm families are the Backbone of America! Xoxoxo
Mom was not into baking or desserts. If she made gingerbread cake, it was a 9" square or loaf cake. She usually sprinkled a little powdered sugar on top, and sometimes she put on a doily and sprinkled on the powdered sugar, lifting it and it had a fancy pattern on it. Rarely, she would put a dollop of whipped cream or a small scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. I have to say the whipped cream was my favorite. I have not made one for many years and I am way overdue for one. ;D Thank you for sharing the recipe!
I'm having a mini Whippoorwill Holler marathon!! Lol!! 😊💖🙏 Sounds delicious!
Lol, Thank you! Wish we could sit and visit!
@@WhippoorwillHoller I do too! 💖 Tasha and I are going to Branson Market days in Nov. If you'd like to come I can get you guys a room with our timeshare!!😊
I like the research that went into this.😃 It looks delicious. Sometimes you don't want those cakes to be overly sweet.
Oh thank you so much, you two are so hard working, taking time for me means alot, love you two, xoxoxo
My Yankee Nana used to make this for me. Warm from the oven. Fresh whipped cream. I can smell it coming out of the oven.
She’d say “Foofie, your spiced cake is ready.” 😍
My Grandpa Walsh made great gingerbread cake. Thank you for bringing back such sweet memories.
You wonderful couple...you are like Mommy and Daddy Christmas! Everything you share withe people, and your TH-cam family. God Bless you! Thank you.
Thank you! Xoxoxo
I love your channel, you and Mr. Brown are the sweetest people. My grandmother used to make molasses cake with black strap molasses and coffee. The house smelled so good. Thank you for the recipe!
We love Golden Barrel Blackstrap molasses!! I use it for so many things. Now I’ve got another great use for it. I try to keep a couple quarts on hand all the time. Thank you so much for blessing us with another wonderful recipe. So happy to see the growth of your channel. You sweet genuine demeanor and Godly character can’t help but draw people here. I know I look forward to sitting down with a cup of coffee and watching a video. It’s almost like I’m sitting at your kitchen table with you. May the good Lord continue to bless you and your sweet family.❤️❤️
Thank you so much, your kind words make me so happy, you can sit at my table anytime and drink coffee with us! God Bless, xoxoxo
Oops hit it too fast! Lovely cake. I love molasses! As a child we ate that & sorghum on biscuits & homemade bread. Such memories! I use blackstrap molasses when I make gingerbread cookies or molasses cookies. I haven’t made a cake for a long, long time. It’s about time! Thank you Mrs Brown for this wonderful recipe & Mr Brown on the education of molasses! Love you guys!
I so enjoy watching your videos, you are living the life I dreampt if as a child, farm life, homesteading, country. Your recipes remind me of both my Grandma's, one of German descent, one full Norwegian. Both were labor intensive in their cooking and baking especially my Norwegian Grandma. Lefse, klube, krumkaka.....
I love molasses with biscuits and butter too! My grandmother made and sold molasses when she was young to help feed her large family. What I wouldn’t give to have a batch of that with some of her biscuits 🙂
Ms. Lori , I love gingerbread . My grandmother made this when I was a child .For the toppling she made a lemon type pudding and serve it with a dollop of it on top . So yummy.
Really enjoyed this. Now I know why my mama who was born in 1927 and was the baby of nine others before her, never liked Molasses.. Her mama had them take a tsp or tblsp. I can't remember which-- every night before bed for the vitamins. For her it was always medicine..It must have been really bitter and different from what I and my children like.. Mom is no longer with us. I miss her every single day.. My babies will be 45 next month and the oldest will be 49 in Dec. of this year and this month my husband and I will be married for 50 years. The profile picture is me and my daughter when she was in high school. She had fixed my hair.. and I just like this picture.../really liked the medical news from your hubby and love the picture of the two of you when younger..
The picture of you and your daughter is beautiful! I know taking a T. Of Blackstrap had to be awful, bitter! Xoxoxo
I have a whole gallon of molasses, I was wondering what to do with it. The elderly on my block I live on basically expects a bunch of goodies at Christmas time, here we go, this cake, they’ll love it 🥰
Fantastic! I hope they like it! Xoxoxo
Love watching your videos.
I remember the smell of the house when my Mama would make this cake. She would serve with a lemon sauce. WOW..thanks for the memory
We're having a cool night in NYC tonight so I decided to give this a try it came out great! I served it with some sweetened whipped cream. My mom would sometimes make this cake in a cake pan shaped like a gingerbread man.
Love it. Mother made a fantastic gingerbread with sweet golden molasses, sugar, butter and sour cream. We like it spicy and use more powdered ginger than the recipe calls for. Warm from the oven and buttered with unsalted butter, it's fabulous. Cold, it's great with unsalted butter, cream cheese or heavy whipped cream.
Thank you guys for taking the time to teach the old recipes in a way that is understandable. I love watching your videos.
Oh my goodness I wish I had a big slice of that beautiful cake. I know it was good. Tell Mr Brown thank you for the medical lesson. 😄. Thank you for sharing Lori. God bless y’all.
Haha, I'll tell him Vera, xoxoxo
I love your show and i'm hooked. My people are from Arkansas too and I'm in California.I love your downhome recipes and personnality. I haven't seen this type of cooking since my grandma and I thank you
I just love watching y’all you are just precious and your husband seems full of sass! That cake looks delicious and I loved the lesson on molasses, I remember my grandma always had a bottle in her cupboard, it was super dark but I have no idea what kind it was!!!

The molasses and spices have properties in them that help guard against sicknesses. My mother told me about a lady that lived on a neighboring farm when her and my dad were first married that had several children and she said she was never out of Gingerbread cake so they would stay healthy. Enjoyed the video. God Bless
Love this story, it's very good for you, we have been doing alot of research on molasses and sorghum, I didn't know, it was 2 different canes, and sorghum is very good for too, God Bless, xoxoxo
You have probably heard this before, but I think you should put out a cookbook. Love your videos! You are blessed to have a husb with good humor!
We always used Brer Rabbit Blackstrap Molasses. Raised on it since I was a child , 67 years ago. I, also, buy Grandma's Blackstrap Molasses. We just sprinkled powder sugar on the cake after it cooled. Thanks for the video! I will try your recipe at some point. I, also, have two recipes that I would love to send to you and have you try them. One of them may be a recipe that another subscriber requested a few videos back. Again, thanks for all your wonderful content!
Hi Janet yes please send me your recipes, I would be honored, xoxoxo
This was a favorite dessert in our house. Always served warm with homemade applesauce and a dollop of whipped cream. Nothing better. Thank you.
Oh my, poke holes in it and pour that glaze over it! Looks yummy!!
This was not only informative, for the cake recipe, but educational for the short lesson on the different types of molasses. ( Loved Mr Brown's "and that's your medical news for today.") This looked SO good! I've never had a cake like this before. It looked delicious! Thanks for sharing these with us! God bless.
I made this recipe for my great grandma , she has a hard time eating solid foods but she really liked this one, it was also my first time making and eating a molasses Gingerbread cake,ı also loved it. Amazing recipe😍
We always added cold coffee to our molasses cookies, they come out kinda cake like. My favorite.
I thank you for the recipe. It turned out delicious. I added a couple yummies. Crushed walnuts and I baked it in a bunt pan. My neighbors are used to me cooking Latin foods in my outdoor kitchen but they called and said what are you baking. Smells heavenly
I just discovered your channel and have watched a ton of the recipes! This one made me cry! I’m 45, it brought back memories and even smells from my very early childhood and being at my grandparents house! Thank you so much! This Tennessee girl is a true Whippoorwill Hollar fan! 😘
Thank you for sharing your lovely cake. A pleasure to see.
Made this and my Mama's lemon sauce and it brought tears to my eyes and memories flooding my mind. My daughter did the same. Thank you so much.
You are so welcome!
It's so funny how your tastes change, but I remember hating molasses when I was young. My grandparents always had it with their biscuits and it was awful to me back then. I love it now though. I don't know if they had blackstrap or not but it wasn't Grandma's or any you see at the store. It looked like what you have there in a jar with a homey looking label. I buy Grandma's now and I like it with ham on the rare occasion we have it. But I love gingerbread cookies and cake and molasses cookies so I'm sure this cake is wonderful. I just found your channel. I know I'm going to love it.
I really enjoyed watchingyoug videos keep them comingpggy
Mrs Lori..I just cant stop watching you..just wish i lived close to you so we could visit. Do you ever make personal appearances in your state. You are so kind and genuine. Thank you for mentioning God as you close your videos. We are a blessed people.
Oh how sweet, no, I just make videos, I'm blessed with my subscribers, such kind people, xoxoxo
Oh boy! Molasses and cake! You have my full undivided attention. I only hope I can pull this off for the holidays.
I can remember Mother making gingerbread cake and we loved it hot with butter.
My Grandma used to stir molasses into a glass of milk and we would have it that way...also molasses cookies. Yum!
Neighbors used to come to our house for gingerbread, homemade vanilla ice cream and lemon curd. Everyonebrpught the ingredients and all helped produce the treats!
Ooooh, that molasses cake looks sooo good. And that glaze... Our Mama used to make gingerbread at the holidays. My sister remembers that and just spoke of it a couple weeks ago. I think I’ll surprise her and make her your recipe. She’ll be so tickled! You are such an inspiration Ms. Lori. Thank you sister!
Thank you for your kindness! God Bless, xoxoxo
I made this and serve it at Sunday lunch. Everyone loved it! Thanks for sharing this recipe. We all love molasses so it was a definite hit!
I grew up on blackstrap molasses. I love both all 3 types of molasses. The blackstrap is probably my favorite but it doesn't always like me back and is hard on my stomach. I am definitely going to be making this cake. 🥰
Dear Ms Lori…….hope all is well……please gargle with warm salt water whenever you have a sore/dry throat……..and drink tea with real ginger in it for your tummy……we love you. Sandy and Ed in CT……God Bless.
So glad I found your channel!! I've been binge-watching every evening. I rarely watch television and have found TH-cam to be a great deterrent. Your videos are incredibly refreshing and your recipes are wonderful! I love molasses...my mom would often pour it over our pancakes instead of maple syrup and sometimes I'd pour a little into my cornmeal porridge. Thank you for sharing your gift and blessings to you and your family.🙏💗🙏
Thank you Dana, I appreciate you, and your kindness, xoxoxo
Oh Miss Lori...I just found your gingerbread cake recipe! I am thrilled, as this is my favorite cake, still warm, with lots of butter.
My grandmother made this ! I’m so glad I found your channel . Memories are the best . Miss her dearly
Hi y’all.. thx Mr.Brown for the info. Beautiful cake. We need smellovision... lol. Thx and have a wonderful day. ✌️
We need TASTE-A-VISION! LOL
Momma T's BBQ sauce or BOTH 😉😃
Hi Lori! I just found your channel yesterday and watched it for hours! I don't live very far from you and I have a daughter named Lori who is your age...so we have some things in common. I love to cook but am just cooking for one since 2012...unless I invite my daughter and son-in-law over to eat! I will be 75 next month and I am still working 25 hours a week! I also have a son and 4 grandsons that I love dearly. I am loving your videos!
Well nice to meet you, and Thank you so much, xoxoxo
I love gingerbread cake and cookies. I usually add fresh grated ginger as well for some extra punch. For the cake, my favourite accompaniment is whipped cream!
I am so enjoying your videos. Looking forward to the next one. Love and best wishes from England.
Oh, England! I Love it! Good to meet you Amanda, xoxoxo
Grew up putting whipped cream on our gingerbread cake. Winter favorite😋
I LOVE this recipe Mrs. Lori! My grandma swore by Unsulphured Blackstrap Molasses. If you didn’t have that type specifically, then why bother making the recipe. This was very nostalgic for me and I thank you for that beautiful memory 😊
Thank you so much Ms Lori, this took me back to when I was a little girl. I remember my Mom making this cake, it was sooo good, I can almost smell it. I really want to try it as I have never made it before, blessings sweet friend ❤
Oh, I hope you do, it does bring back memories, God Bless, xoxoxo
My mother made all her cakes from scratch and gingerbread cake was one of my father's favorites. Thanks for this recipe and bringing back wonderful memories.
You absolutely made my day. I adore gingerbread but my family doesn't. I'm going to try your recipe and eat the whole thing 🤣 I've never tried black strap but I hear such great things about it. Thanks so much for sharing.
Very interesting info on the different types of molasses. I really like molasses but didn’t know the different types. That really helped me decide which one I want to make this cake. 😋👩🏼🍳👌🏼
Thank You Ms Lori, i love this recipe, i make gingerbread houses for Christmas with my granddaughters and I think this recipe will work wonderful, I do have a mold for the houses, and it will work wonderful, Bless You and Thank You again.
This couple is amazing, God bless them.
This was GREAT !!!! I have been looking for a recipe for some time now.... and here you are !
Love Mr. Brown's information !!!! I'll make this cake as soon as I go get my Black Strap Molasses .
Thank you !
I just love you guys. Thank you Mr Brown for you Medical News and to you Mrs Brown for all your good cooking. Just YUM!
Thank you! For watching, God Bless, xoxoxo
Another great video and recipe. Thank you and to Mr Brown for the Health class. 😁I grew up on molasses and would go with my dad to watch a man make them. He had the cane stalks in a big contraption and used small mules to walk in circles. I think he made what my mom and dad called Sorghum “Molasses” but they also got regular molasses, too. My mom would bake a pan of biscuits and we would put homemade butter and molasses on them. Yummmmy! Love and blessings to you.
Oh what sweet memories! Xoxoxo
Love from the heart to both of you down to earth loving and sweet people. I believe some of my family generation came from the Bleeker Mts in downstate NY. I think this is how they lived. Thank you sweet people.

Just found your channel and I have been working my way through all your videos! Your lifestyle is my dream! Thank you for sharing. I will be baking up a storm and delivering the extras to the grubby bar across the street probably b/c I live solo right now inthe big city. Can't let it go to waste and the guys over there are always happy to eat whatever I bring over there. Just thought you might get a kick out of knowing your cooking is going to end up in the tummies of a bunch of roughneck city dudes at some bar this week! Thanks for creating your channel. So subscribed!
