Thank you for this video, I felt like I was standing there in person watching you work. Please do more videos on magnolia as bonsai. Watching you prune gave me courage to go out and prune the magnolia that Ive been growing.
Great video David! Very much appreciated. I have watched some of your videos before, and was surprised to realize that I had not subscribed. Now I know that I will see them all pop into my video feed.
Thank you for watching and for your kind comment! I’m glad you found the video interesting. It’s always a joy to share the beauty and intricacies of bonsai with others
Thank you for watching and for your enthusiasm! I’m glad you’re excited about the trees’ development. If there’s one tree in particular you’re most interested in following let us know! It will help us focus future updates since we won’t be able to cover all of them in detail🌳✨
Thank you Dave! Broadleaf trees are a fantastic choice, especially for staged development. One of the joys of working with them is seeing noticeable progress at each stage from initial pruning to refinement and beyond. Their faster growth allows us to enjoy the results of our work sooner making the process all the more rewarding!
Thanks so much Owen! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video. The Bonsai Society sweaters are coming soon and I can’t wait for you to check them out. Appreciate the support, stay tuned!🌱🌱
I’m watching your video and you were talking about the potentilla growing far in the north. Well, I live in Alaska and we have them growing in the wild up here. We have mountains to the east of Anchorage and I’ve seen them growing atop the mountain.
Thank you for sharing that Robert! Potentilla is such a resilient and beautiful species and it’s amazing to hear about them thriving in the wild up in Alaska. Growing atop the mountains near Anchorage must make for a stunning sight. Nature has a way of surprising us with its adaptability especially in challenging environments like that. It’s wonderful to hear from someone who’s seen them in their natural habitat🌿✨
Thank you for watching! I’m so glad to hear you found it helpful. Bonsai is all about learning and growing, both for us and the trees. Keep nurturing your passion and enjoy every step of the journey❤🌳
Thank you for the feedback Patricia. I’m so glad you found the multi-tree approach and the focus on trunk flow helpful. It’s wonderful to know the experiment resonated as it was a last-minute idea we weren’t certain viewers would enjoy. A spring follow-up on the magnolias is a fantastic suggestion, and I’ll definitely keep it in mind for future content
Thanks for the video David, really appreciate the help. In a way, it's good to hear that the Potentilla is a problem tree for everyone else too. I'm in the UK and, as you say, maybe just a handful in every hundred has a decent trunk. Most are simply made up from multi thin trunks and totally unsuitable for bonsai.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment Mike! Potentilla certainly can be a tricky species to work with, and it’s reassuring to know we all face similar challenges. In the UK, with the climate being a bit milder, you might have some luck finding a few hidden gems among the multi-trunk varieties. Sometimes, it’s about spotting that one trunk with potential and letting it shine. Keep at it, bonsai often rewards persistence and a keen eye🌿🌿
This was a great video, maybe you’re best! I would really enjoy a series on these trees, following their eventual repotting and development. Especially the Scot’s pine and cotoneaster.
Thank you for your kind words and support! It brings me great joy to share my passion for bonsai with you. Keep nurturing your trees and your love for the art🌱🙏
Thank you so much Raymond! I truly appreciate your kind words. We put a great deal of time and effort into creating these masterclasses, and it’s rewarding to know that they resonate with viewers like you
Thank you for sharing that Marc! Sokan, the double trunk style, would be a wonderful choice for the last Magnolia. It’s such a graceful and unique design and you’re right, we don’t see it often with Magnolias. It’s always exciting to explore less common styles with a species like this
Thank you for your kind words! We put a lot of thought and effort into making these videos as informative and enjoyable as possible. I’m so glad you found it helpful
You’re absolutely right, the journey for this Scots pine is just beginning and it’s truly an impressive specimen. With time and care, it will evolve into a majestic bonsai, full of character and beauty. I’m excited to share its progress with you as it unfolds. Stay tuned, it’s going to be a rewarding process🌲✨
hello David.. thank you for your very interesting video... just starting to look into this wonderful Bonsai world... i just subscribed to your channel and hope to watch prior videos to see what kind of information i can get from you regarding this great hobby... i am up there in years too but it is never too late to start..
Ganz schöne Video. So kann man die ganze Entwicklung von 5 Jahren sehen. Die Lärrche ist so ein schönes Bäumchen geworden. #nikolausi ist ach mein Ding. Video hervorragend👍👍👍👍
Lovely & very informative video, I’d like to track progress of magnolias as there are very few tutorials on them & I acquired one 2 years ago & am too scared to touch it in north Indian conditions
Great video! It really helped watching you do several trees of many types. I did have a question about when to prune or repot mugo pines. There seems to be conflicting opinions. Id like your thought on that. And I think you also answered my question of which comes first... pruning or repotting. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge! Thank you!
I'm would be interested in how tlypu report these to get them into bonsai pots. Specifically the pine trees. I've killed 3 or 4 real good pine trees when I repot them.
Haha, thankfully Céline hasn’t wielded her pruning shears against me yet! She had her heart set on planting that Magnolia in the front yard, so I had to tread carefully. Hopefully, the work I’ve done will justify its place. Thank you for the laugh and for watching!
