Luckily my grandparents were both born in the 1920s, they used to be in the 1950s and 1960s and they both had a great fashions and style, I miss them so much!😢 They're the ones that made me love vintage, that's why I love Old Hollywood ❤
People like to make fun of the “brown” lip colours of the 90s, but it was never brown-brown. It was spice as she said, or a terracotta. It was hugely flattering and much calmer and laidback which was the vibe. There were two 90s, really. The grunge look and the supermodel look. The supermodel look was polished and winged eyes and red lips, and the grunge look was as described.
Im so addicted to your video’s. Brings back so many memories. My grandmother was a teen in the 20’s and my mother a teen in the 40’s. One of the best memories I have is sitting at my mom’s vanity table in the 60’s looking at all her glamorous beauty products. She was NEVER without red lipstick. And just today, I received a vintage Tweed powder and puff in the mail, that I ordered, that was my grandmother’s favorite scent for on my vintage vanity…it sits beside my Loves Baby Soft. Im one happy “girl!”
Great review. I'm 61 so I can remember all of these products in some way. My maternal grandma was born in 1918 and I remember her speaking of Tangee rouge that her older flapper cousins wore. I'm sure they wore the lipstick too. My grandma was a big fan of 8 hr cream and Visible Difference skincare by Elizabeth Arden. Maybelline still had cake mascara in the 80s, I tried it once and the results weren't bad. An affordable lip pencil trend in the 90s was Wet N Wilds # 666 which was a spice color for 99 cents which was popular with celebrities and make up artists. Thanks Laura Jane 💖
I thought cake mascara was either banned in the 60s, or maybe just voluntarily taken off the market?? It was because it needed water to create the creaminess but women were using saliva. Hence, the compact became a teeming petri dish of bacteria and eye infections followed. I remember using the cake mascara (properly!) because it was cheaper and lasted forever.
Lol I had forgotten it's #! Lol I thought everyone's bathroom vanity/caboodle came with that pencil cuz literally EVERYONE had it😂 you should have heard the crazy stories that got passed around crazy private religious schools about that pencil✨🖤💀✨
I would be very happy to go back to the 80s or 90s. Actually 90s fashion is making a huge comeback now, sharp tailoring, bold colours and sleek silhouettes, love it. My favourite of the beauty items you mentioned is the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum. It’s a must have item in my nightly skincare routine.
I love Pond's Cold Cream. I swear by it. I'm already on my third jar. My Nana used it and my grandma used it. My skin's sensitive, oily, and breakout prone, and this doesn't irritate it.
So funny, I met a woman in her 70s about 15yrs ago as they were camping next to us for a week. Her skin was so beautiful. Hardly any wrinkles. Of course I complimented and asked what she used. She said her entire life she only used Ponds Cold Cream. I was floored. She said she used it every night. My mom was a big Oil of Olay fan. She would try other stuff but always went back to Oil of Olay. She was cute and loved hearing her say Oil of Olay with her accent.
I use Ponds cold cream and love it. If you’re in Australia you can get it from Chemist Warehouse. It’s a perfect first cleanse to remove the bulk of your makeup or a water free face cleanser
My mother used Ponds until the day she died. She was 88 years old and I found four jars of it hoarded in the bathroom cabinet. She had great skin and got compliments all the time on how youthful she looked. She never wore any makeup except Revlon Fire and Ice (!) but switched to a popular Rose Wine(?) color lipstick when she hit her elderly years.
Angel’s Face powder was still sold in the 1990’s. I remember one of my school teachers re- applying the powder through the day. So, when I was a teen, it was the first powder I bought. Then it suddenly disappeared from store shelves. It was cheaper than Cover Girl, smaller teal blue compact without a mirror. It was scented and had a great coverage.
I became a teen in the 60s UK - Yardleys Lavender perfume was definitely for older women like my grandmother. I wore Tigresse by Faberge and Aqua Manda, the orangey one 💕💕💕
Love the history you bring to makep. So interesting. My Grandma was born in 1898 and only wore powder. My mom loved revlon. I remember that kissing potion roller ball. Lol. Ive loved makeup all my life. One of my favs in the 70s was iced pink lipstick. Still like the pinks the best.
💋 Clinique 🖤honey almost lipstick is the ONLY lipstick i could ever stand to wear! And that color is truly universally flattering...sheer, but it stays.
I’ve used Estée Lauder advanced night repair for 20 years. I think I’ll use it my entire life. The youth Dew bath oil is still available today, I have that too, I don’t really use it, I just like to open it and smell it from time to time lol.
hi! i’m new around here but i just wanted to tell you how at home i feel, i have had an obsession with old time beauty and music and culture and you name it my whole life so it’s nice to see someone as interested as me for once :’) have a lovely day
I just repurchased Great Lash in the color brown. I saw the kissing potions at a novelty store a couple years back. They should put them back in store with some cute packaging and a good promo. I think they would sell well mainstream.
They sell the Kissing Potion rollerball lip glosses at Tinte Cosmetics. You can find them online. The scents and formulations are just like they used to be. They also sell the Village lip gloss tins from the 80s. They have all the old flavors and have added a lot of new ones. All the packaging is the same as the original.
Revlon Fire and Ice is my favorite lipstick and I use it quite often. I also have the Youth Dew bath oil. It is quite strong, so I put it on before I shower and that tones down the smell just enough for me. I was able to find it on Amazon.
If anyone is interested trying cake mascara Besamé cosmetics makes one! They make vintage reproduction/inspired make up. They have a reproduction of the Victory Red lipstick too.
My favorite face powder used to be Sally Hansen Cornsilk. I used it from the late 80s, until I couldn’t find it anymore (in the 00s). It was great for oily skin.
I still use Estée Lauder serum. When Ulta has it on sale I snatch it up. Along with Lancôme Génifique (only at 1/2 half). I go back and forth with it. With the Paula’s choice BHA and trentinion in the mix. As far as actives these are what works the best for me. I don’t hunt around anymore. I lived through 6 of these decades and excited and frightened to see what’s next. Thank you.
In the 1970s, The company FASHION FAIR became one of the first Black-owned international cosmetic lines and broke racial barriers in business by celebrating Black beauty by introducing dark tones for foundations, powders and more. Fashion Fair paved the way for all women of color to feel beautiful 💖✨
I bought a kissing potion like I had when I was young. a few years ago, but they have a “healthier version” now which is cool..only more expensive. But it’s exactly like I remember. I love it!
I religiously use Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum. I’ve only been using it for approximately one month but it has completely changed my dry, sensitive and rosacea skin. It has transformed my skin to soft and supple and almost always clear of a red flush with a burn. Combined with plenty of drinking water and a simple moisturiser (The Jojoba Company: Ultimate Night Cream) day and night. While the serum is expensive, it is 100% worth every drop!!
awesome revlon fire & ice! i got the revlon colorstay fire & ice colorstay lip ink at rite aid and then left it around the house where i live when there were real estate tours when i was gone they probably checked to find out if i stole it nobody bought the house obviously
I’ve used Night Repair since its inception in the 80s. Would not be without it-it’s probably the best all around serum on the market today. I mix it in foundation to make it more glowy and it’s perfect to help hydrate and heal the skin if the face gets too much sun.
So everything used to be about soothing and protecting skins moisture and they didn’t use retinals, peels, etc. What happened between then and now that we need all these exfoliation? Revlon has Fire and Ice perfume too. I didn’t know things like pH lipstick and eyeshadow sticks existed long before today’s era. As I’ve aged I realize things look good on people because of THEIR features and energy, like I would look ridiculous dressed as a Bohemian and would feel more at ease with the 50’s looks.omg I loved roller ball lipgloss. Also the lip balms in the sliding tins.
It's really cool to see which products had enough staying power to remain popular today. This was super informative. But why did you stop including black style icons after the 50"s? Black culture still had their own distinct It Girls even after segregation ended.
The suits and dresses bs k than we’re really beautiful and true feminine luxury compared to the truly masculine stupid man jackets and sloppy dressing of today
I love the classic beauty looks, and products. The bottles of lotions and creams look so pretty back then.
I love retro makeup packaging. It really looked like something special on the boudoir.
Luckily my grandparents were both born in the 1920s, they used to be in the 1950s and 1960s and they both had a great fashions and style, I miss them so much!😢 They're the ones that made me love vintage, that's why I love Old Hollywood ❤
Wow cool I bet they had some interesting stories

The supermodel look was polished and winged eyes and red lips, and the grunge look was as described.
I never stopped wearing brownish lip colors, so pretty!
My favorite look from the 90s was oxblood or raisin lip with winged liner, cream sparkly lid and matte brown crease

Those Love’s Baby Soft ads from the ‘70’s are really disturbing now.
Vamp nailpolish from chanel in the 90’S was a must have
I absolutely love Josephine Baker! She's been my beauty icon ever since I was a teenager! ❤️❤️❤️
Kissing Potion came out in the mid-70s. That’s when I wore it. Loved the bubblegum.😀

Ponds cold cream has been Step 1 of my double cleanse since 2012. I'm 41!
I love these types of videos she does.
So much research and effort and makes you appreciate all the things we have so much more.
I would be very happy to go back to the 80s or 90s. Actually 90s fashion is making a huge comeback now, sharp tailoring, bold colours and sleek silhouettes, love it.

This is so nostalgic and fun. Thank you!
Great video! I loved beauty products and it was fun traveling back in time ❤ 💄
My Great Aunt was a flapper and was definitely a rebellious peacock with a huge beautiful heart!!
Oh wow!
I love Pond's Cold Cream. I swear by it. I'm already on my third jar. My Nana used it and my grandma used it. My skin's sensitive, oily, and breakout prone, and this doesn't irritate it.
I love it too

I majored in theatre, and did community theatre. I used that to remove my stage makeup. I rediscovered it two years ago, and it's amazing.
Same!
It's the best...Used it all my life
I randomly picked up Ponds when I was 12 and it’s been a classic tried-and-true product ❤
My grandma used it and so do I and now my daughter..
Love this video ❤, going thru the decades showcasing the current products, culturally relevant women, and popular beauty trends in each 💄🧴💋
Thanks so much!

I would go back to the 1980's. Fun decade. Good music, fun fashions. A good time to be alive. Simplier times too!!!
the 80’s are my favorite!!!
The last great decade-- the 80s.

I loved the clinique 3 step 😊
Evelyn Nesbit ❤️❤️❤️ Women were beautiful in all these decades, but theirs something about Edwardian women that were so elegant 🌷
I know I love that era
What a great video! I had to look up what vanishing cream was, it was kind of an early day makeup primer. It "vanished" into your skin.

I recently found my MAC Spice lip liner from 1994, before Estée Lauder purchased MAC. I paired it with a dark brown MAC matte lipstick 💄
Keep and treasure it, new spice is orangey and awful .
That's impressive that Pond's cold cream is still around despite being a skincare product that's over a century old
Isnt it so impressive! My grandmother, great grandmother and great geeat grandmother used & loved Ponds cold cream.
I’ve used Estée Lauder advanced night repair for 20 years. I think I’ll use it my entire life.

My sister gave me one of the lip balm tins and it brought back so many childhood memories. I love clicking it open and shut takes me back in time
wow! imagine, if Thomas wouldn’t have seen his sister applying vaseline and coal dust to her lashes, we would’ve never had mascara!!!
Oh how I enjoy your videos 😊my mom and grandma always had their red lipstick 💄 on😊thanks for sharing 😊
I still have some Loves fresh 🍋 Lemon from about 6 yrs ago. It smells lite & fresh! ✨
Revlon Fire and Ice is my favorite lipstick and I use it quite often. I also have the Youth Dew bath oil. It is quite strong, so I put it on before I shower and that tones down the smell just enough for me. I was able to find it on Amazon.

My sister wore Clinique Black Honey in the same tube they sell now in the 1980,s.
40s 50s I'd go back there because things were made to last it was beautiful but also perfectly flawd . ❤ Your channel 👍🏻
In the late 1980’s they sold Ponds Angel face blue compacts. Was part of my high school beauty routine.

Did you know in the 40’s and 50’s red lipstick was required to wear to work?
Interesting fact.
Moshi
I'd really like to try the Eight Hour Creme
They also have an 8 hour lip balm that’s fantastic. At least, I think they still make it
Love your channel I’m an avid watcher ❤
Thanks so much
You can still get Tangee products!
Tangee perfume is beautiful
Can you please do a video on Alain Delon
I have ponds angel face powder. I got it in mexico.
I used EL Night Repair for many years in the 90s to around 2016. Its too expensive now and so many similar products now for less.
I still wear black honey, it’s my favorite
I swear Estée Lauder’s advanced night repair serum is a placebo. It might slightly hydrate, which is an easy one, but nothing to “repair”.
I really notice it on my skin
awesome revlon fire & ice! i got the revlon colorstay fire & ice colorstay lip ink at rite aid and then left it around the house where i live when there were real estate tours when i was gone they probably checked to find out if i stole it nobody bought the house obviously
