Great video after 6 years. Thanks for being to the point and not making one of those videos where the narrator says "okay, I'm putting the glove on my left hand by picking it up with my right hand and starting with my left thumb," etc. You get my drift. Nicely done
Great video, brother. I knew what i needed to do, but watching your video made it clear. Also appreciate you got straight to the DIY without padding the video with what you had for breakfast or other irrelevant banter. Top notch stuff, thanks!
From what I understand soldering is worse in cases where the electrical system is subject to vibration, like in a car, because the connection tends to become brittle and crack over time
This was helpful, thanks. My trailer lights have been glitchy: sometimes working and sometimes not, and after replacing the plug they now work well (at least today, time will tell), but it was good to see the steps. And if you don't mind some constructive criticism: it'd be good to see you screwing the wires into their connectors, I hadn't encountered that kind of connection before, in fact I didn't know there was such a thing, I assumed crimping and soldering were the only 2 ways that a couple wires could be connected.
No screw with the original plug on my 2004. The only option is to cut it off. But i also like to work with freshly exposed wire on any wiring work, when time permits.
Just one suggestion on the wires getting screwed to the plug put the grote flanged spade terminals on the wires then put the terminals on the plug to make it more secure. Thanks for the suggestion on using tin snips for wires to big for wire cutters.
ahhhh....the only thing i was wondering about was skipped over...the actual wire placing and screwing into each numbered terminal......I'm not sure how that goes...guess I'll wing it or find another video. thanks though
Same here. I was waiting for the part that shows about putting the wires into the end. Have zero clue. I'll have to find another video that shows that step
@@5hpenny just for u i skimmed thru vid again. Yeah u just loosen the screws (the gold screws in his case) and shove the stripped end of each wire into the hole(i think its a hole) and tighten up to keep wire secured there. The wires are colour coded so u know which one goes where. Hope that helps!/makes sense
@@felinefox4039 thank you, yes that helps very much. I kept up with most of it but didn't know if the wires go on the outside of the screws or sandwiched or what, lol
Wired it just like you said. Now my right blinker turns on both blinkers, and the left blinkers blink super fast. Any thoughts? I’ve quadruple checked the wiring but i must’ve made a mistake somewhere
there are two configurations for the 7-pin trailer plug, the SAE J2863 and the traditional RV blade connection, on the SAE the left turn is yellow, the right turn is green, the tail lights are brown, the positive is orange or red, and the center pin is reverse, black or purple. the traditional is the one in this video

Haha same issue here, last 20 miles of a 350 mile trip I forgot to unplug and stripped it all out
Watching this video in the comfort of the warm house, drinking coffee. Good video
Soldering ends of the wires is best practice takes more time but the connection is much more conductive. ⚡⚡⚡

all you pros should a made a video he did a good video/advice ...Thanks Greg a big help

Facts. Great video family!!
Don’t cut the wire bundle as in this video. Simply unscrew to expose the wires that are already stripped and slide the housing unit down
Often the original plug is vacuum molded and does not come undone.
another bit of good advice.
If your lucky
Better to start with fresh stripped wires if replacing an old plug IMO.

Thank you man did not see color indicators on plug til this video
Thanks for this! Mine broke off when I got rear ended - shattered the unit. Never got it fixed but think I can handle this job on my own now.
Thanks for the great video. I am confident that I can replace mine by myself.

Appreciate you explaining step by step

Hey how can I change the plug from7 way to regular boat trailer
Disconnect the trailer battery first. The positive wire on the plug is live with battery connected.
wouldn't the battery be on the car end?

How about the one that is on my car, is it the same
I hope this will fix my camper tail light connection problem, they go off while I’m driving, so I have to stop and reconnect to work again
Aren't you supposed to disconnect the towing vehicle somehow BEFORE stripping live wires???
the wire he is working with simply feeds the "light" bulbs on the trailer

Why did you skip im wondering...the yellow flug is in the center is this right...?

the plug i took off is wired different. Why?
