Thanks! It was fun to bring 2 separate purchases together to make 1 complete engine.

Nice work to put together a running NW2 with the parts you already had on hand. And fantastic job showing your process of evaluating the chassis to determine what components to use from what chassis. Great video Jeremy!

Great video Jeremy. I’m glad you got it working. I learn a lot from your videos and I may try to fix an old locomotive one day. I was watching Railchief74’s live also.

Thanks Corey That bent up power truck was a struggle. It was great to see you in the Livestream.

I believe that the assembly, with non-working MagneTraction, never had in the first place. Lionel used permanent magnets, so they don't deplete over time. Maybe something happened to make it lose its magnetic properties, but I doubt it. All of my original, post-war, Lionel locomotives still have their MagneTraction going strong. Try pushing an F3 along tubular track and you'll see how well it works. My MPC-era locomotives also still have great MagneTraction. If you accidentally leave a screw on the tracks and your engine will find it. I know this from experience. Either way, it's nice to see those NW2's get running again and this video on how to do it is excellent. Those motor assemblies, with the metal side-plates are from the later NW2's. I like to go to train shows and maybe pick-up one of those boxes that is marked ten bucks for the whole thing. Sometimes, you get lucky and there are things in it that you can use. Railchief has some excellent repair videos. This is an excellent video, as always.

Thanks for commenting John These smaller diesel chassis use magnetized axles. The way to spot it is the larger diameter silver axles have magnetraction. The smaller diameter darker colored axles don't have it (check out my video on the 1055 Alco FA - no magnetraction, no traction tires, no extra weight ). I do have a MPC GG1 with the bar magnets - most impressive!

It was a gamble buying those chassis. I'm stoked that it paid off. Glad you liked the video.

Thanks Paul. If I get brave and pull some wheels off, switch some axles around, I can get another chassis going.
