I've been wanting to do my high school's German exchange program (GAPP) since I found out about it around when I started high school but my parents never let me. I ended up just making conversation with the exchange students some of my classmates had and looking at pictures of their excursions. I'm a senior in college and all I can do is think about having a kid or two someday and becoming a host must they ever get involved in their school's German exchange program.
Rn I'm crying too. I'm main candidate for AFS and today my country will selected and so does prices. My dad probably can't afford and I will finish my dreams today. AFS wasn't the only program I made it till the end. There was so many programs and it all ended up not going cuz my dad can't afford. That's the only one left. And I'm losing my hope. I'm crying because I have been dreaming for this experience for 3 years. İt was on my dreams countless times. İt all ended up with my waking up... For one time I want my dreams without waking up

My dad wouldn't mind me going, but he said 16 (the only age I can take a gap year between high school and sixth form) isn't the right age for someone to go away for a year to live with strangers. And honestly, I understand his concern, but he for some reason thinks that host families aren't real families and will only treat me like a guest. he also thinks that I only think of it as a holiday I'll be going on instead of real life school and that me saying I want to experience different cultures and the way people live in other countries is just something I'm saying to persuade him to allow me to go and that it isn't real. My mum thinks the same thing as him, but on top of that she also said to me that I won't learn anything new over there and it isn't beneficial to me at all since my grades won't be carried over from there to here, plus I'll be a year older than everyone else when I start sixth form, and won't have friends. I have pretty much no chance of persuading my mum because what she said is kind of true too, so my life sucks :(
wow!! I'm waiting to grow older and experience this year.. the day where I leave my home country and go to a family I knew nothing about at the start. waiting for the moment where I live with a second family, find new friends, even find love who knows. This persuaded me even more. Great video well put!!!

This was the best Exchange year video I have ever seen I really loved it , I hope that at one day its my time to go tho Exchange year in America. Thanks for making this video.
I can imagine how hard it has been for you to go back home because of the virus. I am supposed to fly to Colorado in a month, I am scared it get canceled. It is my dream since really young and your video is so inspiring! I hope you had the best year of your life. All my love during this time
I’m laying here in bed in a flood of tears bc this is my biggest dream and I feel like I’ve lived in America in my past life or something, but my dad doesn’t know how much it hurts when I ask if i can go and he just laughs and start talking ab something else💔
I am so happy that you experienced the REAL AMERICA that I know and not the big city life that is usually portrayed in Hollywood films!! I am sure you had lots of fun and am so happy for you!! Your presence in my country delighted me so much, even though I live in Texas!!!
Wow thank you so much for your video! It makes me pretty emotional. I was planning to go on an exchange year in summer of 2021. I had been planning this since I am out of primary school. I know my English isn't perfect and i am not the best at being without my loved ones. But I was dreaming so hardly of doing this and experience all this stuff (the positive AND the negative things). But now Corona has come. And I am so scared of not getting the opportunity to do this year. Even the thought of not going to the US makes me cry. I pray that all this stuff with the virus won't last long!
aw love, thank you so much! don't worry about your english, no one is perfect at speaking a foreign language before going, that's a part of the reason why you are going right? if you go on exchange, you will do perfectly fine and your english will definitely develop, everyone starts somewhere! and yes, as the current situation being the virus being pretty serious, i feel so bad for both every student that got sent back too early, yet all the students that are planning on going this following year. but hey, time will change and everything will get better. if you decide to try it out (which i would highly recommend), the organization you pick will make sure you are safe at all time. i'm not sure what Class of 21 students are doing now, if their exchange year will be delayed, but I know for sure their organization has everything under control. hopefully virus won't last for long! wish you the best xx
same. i was planning on going in january 2021 but i'm not sure with the whole virus situation. this would be my last year because i can't study abroad during my senior year. i want to go to south america so the school year starts in february. rip :(
Actually the best video I watched in a while, I’m even more excited for my exchange year, but I have to wait a whole year.😭 I want this so bad for the last year and I can‘t wait anymore. I loved the video🤩
I am currently doing an exchange year in Michigan. Aldo i’m here for a month now, I’ve experienced so many cool things already and your video made me appreciate these things even more
I am watching this, few weeks before my departure from the US, and I must say it is sad thinking about leaving:( I am so grateful, that you made this video, because I feel really similar, and you described the exchange situation perfectly! Thank you for making me tear up in the middle of my math class, it was worth it
this makes me cry 😢 my exchange student came in the same year and i didn’t notice how good it was having her here until she was gone ❤️i miss her so much and i really hope i can see her again one day
oh no! i was so ready to binge watch all of your videos, until I clicked to your channel and realized that this is the only video! It's beautiful by the way, very inspiring.. the way you edited it, the way you put all the different clips together, and the song that you picked.. they're beautiful.. ❤️
this video just randomly popped on my recommended after i just heard back from EF Academy. the best video ive ever seen. i cried. i bet it was one of your best experiences. :)
wow I’m speechless This is literally the best exchange student video I’ve ever seen That looks like so much fun and I’m really crying because I want that too🤍
As someone who also participated in an exchange year program in America (I was an au pair) and has made 2 similar videos about my experience I just want to say well done! It is not easy moving away from your family and friends for a whole year but you learn so much about yourself in the process. This video was perfectly done, I was very impressed and inspired 👏
This video is so perfect! It describes an exchange year realistic and I can relate with everything you said! I was an exchange student in the us too and I also had to leave bc of the corona virus.... it was and still is the hardest time for me to leave all this behind and go back to my "normal" life in Germany... I just miss everything and I would do anything to just go back to a regular school day. Nothing special just seeing my friends and living one more day the american dream. I dont wanna believe this is over... but tha good thing is we gained a family, friends and so many experiences!
I‘m getting emotional, I live in germany and I‘m so envious about the life in 🇺🇸. You can go to an American highschool and find some new friends. The people there are so merciful and perfect, the people at school accept each other how they are. I’m Germany people are so grim and I hate it. I want to live there it‘s my biggest dream
i live in Germany too and every time I watch these exchange year videos I started to cry (man hat irgendwie immer das Gefühl das in der USA alles besser ist )
We aren't perfect in America, that's for sure. But many people have learned that Mercy is better than Justice, and Grace is sweeter than Revenge. Life is too short for petty anger, and strife is just a waste of the little time one is gifted.
omg please tell me you're joking. the U.S. is one of the worst countries. I'm ashamed to be born here. American high schools are literal trash, the people aren't genuine, they will be nice to your face but then talk bad about you behind your back. People gossip and make rumors about you. People are way too into your business and ask too many personal questions. You don't want to live here trust me. If you don't like your home country try visiting somewhere better, there's literally so many countries that are better than the U.S.
this is the best exchange year video I have ever seen!!! I love everything about it, and you can tell that you had a good time, and that you evolved as a person!
I think it's the most emotion video about an exchange year which I ever saw. Thank you very much for this. It makes me cry and happy at the same time. I'm 18 years old an I hope soooo much, that I can experience this in the future :-)
I'm an exchange student from Cambodia🇰🇭, Glad that you shared your story❤. This is a very sad news that i had to return back home because of Coronavirus, but it's was a great experience and really enjoy my time over there! Love you America🇺🇸❤
This is amazing, I love everything about this video! Not doing an exchange year will always be my biggest regret.. Looks like you've had the time of your life!
Sådan en god video Aleksandra. You and all the other exchange students are so brave to leave your homes, your families, your everything to come here for ten months. It’s hard to imagine how much you’ll grow in that time. I’m sad you had to go home early, of course. We had to send our Norsk girl home early as well. Very sad for her and the things she missed out on. Fingers are crossed our schools will allow students again. We’ve already chosen a German girl, but have to wait until probably March to find out what’s going to happen.
I loved your video so much! I was also an exchange student in California and spent 8 months there. I got to experience so many things and I have family, friends, and teachers there. I miss America greatly and wanna come back right after the situation in the world gets better. Hope you will keep going to your dream and make even superior time in the future!!
I seriously love this video! What you say it's so true and I felt the same way. I've been in the USA for 7 months, but unfortunately I had to come as well as you did but this year has been one of the most important of my life. I suggest everyone to experience it, even though sometimes it's not so easy as people say. There are ups and downs everyday but you grow so much and you change your mind a lot! ;-)
@@laradjordjevic8999 I was also super scared of that, but trust me: there’s no need to! There’s a 50% of probability that you and you host family won’t perfectly get along with each other (what if, instead, your future host family is the right one?? Look on the bright side🌞), BUT there’s no need to be afraid of that, cause if anything, you’ll be able to contact a local coordinator who will more than happy to help you☺️!! And remember, your experience isn’t only about your host family!! But friends, different cultures, and traditions as well :) :) Of course you’ll live with them most of the time, but facing tough situations will help you become even more mature, and once you’ll get back to your home country, you’ll have collected so many memories that you can hardly regret💜
@@martinapienabarca7467 Thank you so much , It really helped , my mom allowed me to apply for the exchange so maybe I will this year , also everything sounds perfect and like a dream , but I’m pretty sure it’s not always like that , but I would definitely love to experience that.Obviously I’m going to work on my english now more that usual but for my age I think my english is good , Thank you again💙
@@laradjordjevic8999 Well, first of all I’ve to say that it all depends from person to person!!🥰 When I first went there, I thought that nothing was about to be hard because I had been seeing so many posts of exchange students on Instagram, and I had thought that life over there was going to be always like that : a dream 💭. And trust me, it was at the end!! But you inevitably have to face tough moments, but this is gonna be the littlest part of your journey☺️. It might seem a hard challenge, but how can we be really happy, if not after ‘disappointing’ and ‘sad’ experiences? And no worries about your English! It’ll get BETTER and BETTER every day! Even if you go there that you don’t have too much knowledge about it! Cause you’ll be speaking it EVERY DAY✨✨✨, and trust me, once you finally feel like part of the environment where you live, it’s just gonna go better and better, and you’ll be able to tell everyone how much you needed this experience to improve your English and try new things🌸
@@martinapienabarca7467 I totally agree! You really helped me!! I’m currently studying for my final exam in my contry so i have a lot of work but I’m definitely thinking of applying , It just sounds so exciting , new friends , new country , school … everything , but also a bit scaring .. I was thinking to try exchange with flex , so do you know anything about it?💘
This was without a doubt the BEST exchange video I have ever seen. My eyes are filled with tears and all the words used by you have described my exchange as well. Thank you for sharing your experience. I have a TH-cam channel and you inspired me to do a exchange year rewind
Thank you Aleksandra, I am in the same situation and I cannot explain myself better than what you just said. Thank you from a sad Spanish exchange student.
I've been watching videos like this one for days. I'm so happy for all of you. I know what the exchange year could have brought me. I had put all my efforts into it and this year was my last chance to go, and I succeded. I've even got a host family. Unfortunately, covid cancelled my life-changing opportunity. My, and many other, dreams are ruined. I'm sad because these videos are the closest things I'll get from America.
i am terribly sorry to hear your exchange year got cancelled. covid has ruined people's dreams or even lives in many many ways. i'm sending love and hope you'll get to achieve your dreams and visit America, once this pandemic is over. keep your head up, take care
wow!! the video is absolutely incredible!!! i'm flying to US very soon as an exchange student from Ukraine, i think they will have tons of questions to ask)
Hope future exchange students can watch this and see you don't always have to go to a well known state, or live in big city to enjoy life in America. "Use to calling it supper",That made me smile! Just curious, did you ever visit Storm Lake? Beautiful video. Wish you had more of them. Take Care!
I was an exchange student last year and I miss it so much. Thank you for making this, this is the purest and best video I've seen so far. It made me cry...
I ligit cried my heart out.Ive been wanting to go on a foreign exchange year ever since I was 11 but you have to be 15 to go on one and I'm still 13.I really wanna go 😢
Hey, i'm also 13 at the moment and I was hoping that we could share our dream. Maybe we can talk on snapchat? I know that this sounds really random, it is actually so yeah.. anywho if you don't see this or don't want to have anything related to me it's okay. I just hope that you and i will achieve our goal/dream.❤️
I am literally balling my eyes out I really hope that I can get the opportunity to experience an exchange year it sounds so amazing and I would love to visit the USA. I just don’t like it here anymore and this sounds like the perfect option for me building my selfconfidence up and being able to travel on my own I really hope I can get the money together. Amazing video
I’m crying so hard again. Today aas my last day of school and I cant believe my exchange year, my childhood dream, is gonna be over in 2 weeks! This captures perfectly how it is to be an exchange student

this is honestly such a beautiful video. i dont usually comment on youtube videos, but this really warmed my heart and shattered it at the same time. the cinematography, the lighting, the voiceover, it just captures your memories perfectly. goodluck in life and i hope youre doing okay 💕
Becoming an exchange student is one of my biggest dream😭.. suddendly while I was watching your video I started crying, because tbh I'm so jealous that people like you can have the opportunity to live the 'american dream' but at the same time I'm so happy for you because you enjoyed your year, but I'm happier knowing that someone out there made their dream come true... Btw this is the best video about exchange student ever, thank you for sharing your story❤❤🇺🇸
So i had to tell you, that you really encourage me to participate in na exchange experience! Honestly thank you for making this video, it was amazing. :)
@snoweIIe I am hoping to go to Canada! I have never been there before and it is outside of europe so that is also a new experience for me! But if I suddenly feel like that is too frigthening my backup plan is England :)
this video is sad and happy but Thank you for sharing your year with us. I am French and it is my dream to leave a year, to be a student exchange but I am so afraid. It’s so impressive. I'm happy for you that everything went well.

Hey, I normally don‘t comment on videos, but I just wanted to share my thoughts. Your video is one of the best videos I‘ve ever seen about exchange years and everything you say is to 100% true. I‘m currently spending my exchange in the U.S. I‘ll have to leave soon, but I had exact the same feeling. There are ups and downs like on a rollercoaster and it‘s really not always easy. I‘ll miss it so much (I have a few more weeks left), because you basically throw the life away you build up for yourself. I love this video so much! P.S.: I have kind of the same thing with my home country Austria. I have to explain everyone that Austria is not the same like Australia :)
I loved this video! This may be one of the best when it comes to exchange videos! You`re year looked so amazing. I was so excited to my exchange year in the USA this year. But because of covid- 19, I don`t think it will happen. It is so sad. I was really looking forward to my dream :(

Great video and glad to see you enjoyed your exchange. Covid has destroyed many dreams, mine included. I was meant to go to Japan for a year from March but was cancelled and I am unable to go next year due to my age, such a heartbreaking feeling. I just hope future exchange students dont have to experience what I and many others have.

I am currently doing an exchange year in Michigan. Aldo i’m here for a month now,
I’ve experienced so many cool things already and your video made me appreciate these things even more
I am watching this, few weeks before my departure from the US, and I must say it is sad thinking about leaving:( I am so grateful, that you made this video, because I feel really similar, and you described the exchange situation perfectly! Thank you for making me tear up in the middle of my math class, it was worth it
This makes me so emotional, I'm going to new Zealand as an exchange student in a year and a half 🥺
this makes me cry 😢 my exchange student came in the same year and i didn’t notice how good it was having her here until she was gone ❤️i miss her so much and i really hope i can see her again one day
oh no! i was so ready to binge watch all of your videos, until I clicked to your channel and realized that this is the only video! It's beautiful by the way, very inspiring.. the way you edited it, the way you put all the different clips together, and the song that you picked.. they're beautiful.. ❤️
mariette aww this put a smile on my face, thank you! stay tuned girl ❤️
Girl I just watched this video again after a few months and I BAWLED I’m so excited I’m going next year and I promise I’ll enjoy every moment❤️
Randomly found this video , i want it so bad. The best exchange year video i've ever seen !!❤
this video just randomly popped on my recommended after i just heard back from EF Academy. the best video ive ever seen. i cried. i bet it was one of your best experiences. :)
wow I’m speechless
This is literally the best exchange student video I’ve ever seen
That looks like so much fun and I’m really crying because I want that too🤍
As someone who also participated in an exchange year program in America (I was an au pair) and has made 2 similar videos about my experience I just want to say well done! It is not easy moving away from your family and friends for a whole year but you learn so much about yourself in the process. This video was perfectly done, I was very impressed and inspired 👏
wow thank you sm!
how much was ur program
@@khibelfon7805 it was around R10k if I remember correctly
This video is so perfect! It describes an exchange year realistic and I can relate with everything you said! I was an exchange student in the us too and I also had to leave bc of the corona virus.... it was and still is the hardest time for me to leave all this behind and go back to my "normal" life in Germany... I just miss everything and I would do anything to just go back to a regular school day. Nothing special just seeing my friends and living one more day the american dream. I dont wanna believe this is over... but tha good thing is we gained a family, friends and so many experiences!
wow, that's amazing, really couldn't have said it better! thanks so much xx
Same!!!
i live in Germany too and every time I watch these exchange year videos I started to cry (man hat irgendwie immer das Gefühl das in der USA alles besser ist )
Erika Bloch-Frederiksen this is so lovely, thank you xx
This had me in tears!! literally best thing I have seen all year! well done girl ! XXX
There are ups and downs everyday but you grow so much and you change your mind a lot! ;-)
I was thinking of applying this year , but I'm just scared of what kind of family I'll be in , if I pass.❤️
I have a TH-cam channel and you inspired me to do a exchange year rewind
ohmygod, thanks so much girly! means a lot
great video, about to cry
This is probably the best exchange year video I’ve ever seen!!! And it’s edited really good!!!
Thank you Aleksandra, I am in the same situation and I cannot explain myself better than what you just said. Thank you from a sad Spanish exchange student.
This is honestly the best video I’ve seen ! I love it so much.
I'm sad because these videos are the closest things I'll get from America.
i am terribly sorry to hear your exchange year got cancelled. covid has ruined people's dreams or even lives in many many ways. i'm sending love and hope you'll get to achieve your dreams and visit America, once this pandemic is over. keep your head up, take care
wow!! the video is absolutely incredible!!! i'm flying to US very soon as an exchange student from Ukraine, i think they will have tons of questions to ask)
gosh I cried so hard..So nice to see how your exchange year was and I can't believe that I will fly in 2 months in the US ✨
Hope future exchange students can watch this and see you don't always have to go to a well known state, or live in big city to enjoy life in America.
@@rutabnre4137 Omg the best idea totally!I would want to talk to someone that understands me and how much I wanna go but can't!Thanks,
same...
It was so uplifting to see your exuberance of discovering a part of American high school!!!
Love this video! I’m an au pair here in Iowa, great to see that you had a great year here :)
Haven’t even gone on my exchange year yet and I’m already crying for when it’s gonna be over 🥺🥺❤️

Btw this is the best video about exchange student ever, thank you for sharing your story❤❤🇺🇸

i am so so sorry to hear that. sending you much love
This video made me cry. I want to go to america so badly and I know I can do it❤❤ you are so beautiful and sweet girl
Forgot to say: I‘m also here with EF :)
made my day, Anna
This is SO GOOD!! HOW U DONT HAVE EVEN 1000 SUBSCRIBERS?!
LOVE U
i got goosebumps. i did the same experience and damn, u described it so perfectly.
This is amazing, I found this video randomly and I'm in love
I loved this video! This may be one of the best when it comes to exchange videos! You`re year looked so amazing. I was so excited to my exchange year in the USA this year. But because of covid- 19, I don`t think it will happen. It is so sad. I was really looking forward to my dream :(
Silje Moen awe thank you so much! but hey, don’t lose hope! i know the current situation with the virus is not at its best, but we never know what’s gonna happen. really keeping my fingers crossed that class of 21 will have the chance to go, wether it gets delayed or not. wish you all the best girl xx
I wasn't sure I was going to do this, but you have just convinced me, wishing u the best!!!
The best exchange year video reaaaaaaly Cooooool
I was been an exchange student in the year 2019-20 I stayed in Cedar Rapids Iowa! Iowa is beautiful ❤️
It’s so expensive though
This video was so touching. Thanks for sharing your experiences...and you‘re English sounds so American now haha
Made me cry I wanna do this so bad
I loveeee, I from Brazil I speak Portuguese, I understand everything u said ❤️❤️
i got chills throughout the whole video!
