I love this video!! When I was young student I worked in Radisson Roe park resort for one year, and I lived in Limavady on Massey ave. It was 15 years ago....And I remember that people of this town very friendly and kindly) I hope sometime I come back to Limavady! Sorry for my English)
Actually it used to be County Coleraine. It's never been County Derry. When they named the city as Londonderry then they renamed the County Coleraine as County Londonderry. Just a wee fact.
Hey ho I love this as I lived a few years along the road. It is like a taxi ride back in time. You cover all areas which is good. Am going to watch this again and again. My old home town.
I'm South African, family is Scottish/English and my wife is German. Its really useful to keep discussing who won the war, rather than just getting on and accepting the reality that we now live in.
Ireland is a big island. Limavady is on that island. Limavady is therefore an Irish town. With Irish people in it. Some people in the town wish to be known as British. Which is their right. If you went round the Edenmore area you'd see lots of Union flags many of which are actually upside down. All dirty and torn cos they are never taken down. There really is no pride in the flag.
Limavady did develop from a Plantation town but it derived its name from the Irish, Leim an Mhadaidh, meaning Leap of the Dog. While the town itself was given to Sir Thomas Philips by the Crown during the Plantation of Ulster, it is difficult to deny the Irish roots of the area. I don't think it is helpful to be labelling Limavady 'British' or 'Irish' because the reality is far more complex and a lot more interesting. Better is to recognise the diversity of the place and its complex history.
It looded strange for me being that the roads in america look different. Seeing all those little cars made me feel like driving an old american muscle car like the 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT(look it up if you've never seen it, it is beautiful!) simply to see the reations i would get. It is a loud and fast car!
You know what. I love this wee town, and Iove the people in it. I have friends in Britain and in the Republic. I would love to say to the ones that have not been here, go on TH-cam, and have a look at this great wee town, but nearly all the comments below, would put them off coming here. Can we not love this place without being full of bigotry, outdated rhetoric, and hatred. Can we not put our bitterness where the guns were put, and tolerate each other? We are where we are, only for a while.
My grandmother was born here. Sad to see simmering dueling nationalism is more important than community. We're all small- Small town in a small country on a small continent on a small planet. It's ok isn't it? Love.
My Dad was born in Limavady in 1898. Left in 1924 and ended up in U.S. Would have been very nice to have known about my Irish heritage before he died. Be proud of where you were born and stop fighting the war. That's just a waste of time. Just like a broken clock is right twice a day, everyone's viewpoint is right at some point and wrong at other times. Live to be happy -- not necessarily always right.
My Grandmother lived with her family on Irish Green St. She attended Limavady Technical College. My Grandfather lived on a farm outside of town. Went to School until the 6th grade and worked as a boy at Roe Mill.
Please stop making fun of the Irish people and just watch the video. Limavady is in Co. Derry, which has always been a town of native Irish clans and devout Roman Catholics under British rule and influence. It is a mixed force of native Irish Catholics, clans from elsewhere in Ireland, Scottish and English settlers, Loyalists, and Republicans. It is an Irish town with Irish heritage and Irish people, and proud to be a part of the many few Gaelacht regions, and so long live Limavady and Ireland!
god bless roemill gardens the garden of eden my home for a long time and still my mums god bless her please guys go into roemill gardens in to the cul de sac let me see my home
This place is in Northern Ireland, not Ireland, the county is londonderry, not county derry, and northern ireland is in the UK which makes it british not irish
I grew up in limavady and I'm saddened to see the only people motivated enough to comment are the sad little republicans and unionists that have a quiet weep when they realise the rest of the town, not to mention the country, are moving on with their lives. I understand you poor little specimens have to shout louder to be heard these days, but honestly, it's over for people like you. Call the county what you want, call the country what you want, nobody cares anymore, and if you do then boo to y
this has been sent a few times before but oh well. I live in limavady and it's so horrible to see the kinds of comments left here. a particular f slur was used to describe the music. why can't everyone just grow up and get along? who cares if they say 'Irish town' or 'British town'. it shouldn't be an issue. honestly I'm disgusted that this is still a problem.
Being from Limavady, I will educate you and let you understand that Limavady is in County Londonderry - Northern Ireland :) .. You clearly need to go back to school..
Too bad about the unnecessary demonstration of political partisanship in the opening frames. You could have simply called the movie, "A drive around Limavady" and maybe used a graphic of the map of Ireland to pinpoint its position. It would have been a good idea to clean your windshield and to have used a wide angle lens on your camera but your effort is appreciated.

A great place to leave - as many do. I have fond memories of it but people stagnate in these kind of places and nurture old grievances.

Ulster is nine counties. NI is six counties. Ulster is a province of the island of Ireland. Jeez you can't even spell 'wee' or 'prods'.

The law states that people born in Northern Ireland are British. They can claim to be Irish but co. DERRY/Londonderry is inside the UK.
