Great memories. Grew up in Portrush, lived there from 1953 -1972.Had an idyllic childhood, with the miles of golden beaches, great fishing, golf, tennis etc. It was paradise. The fact that the sea was freezing cold didn't put us off swimming. The recreation grounds with all the displays, the town hall hosting the Pantomime, fabulous. The high diving board at the harbour, and the slide and the raft to swim out to,Damaged in a storm and never repaired. Now gone forever. It was such a wonderful safe place. The amazing Northern Counties Hotel, so grand and majestic. Worked a few summer holidays there. The Main Street had so many wonderful shops, hotels and eateries. Alas now it's cheap and cheerful with a lot of plastic. However not having been back in a very long time, I do believe it's having a bit of a facelift with the British Open to be played there in a couple of years.Maybe I'll get a chance to visit :)

Me and my friends went to it throughout our youth, thumbing lifts to get there and sleeping rough in the sand dunes. We had no money for B/B or hotels and what little we had was spent on food so I look At kids now going there thinking how lucky they are. But despite us having nothing and only the clothes we had on, not even a change of underwear, we loved going there and into Barry’s to try and meet some girls who mostly had the good sense to avoid us lol. But great memories of fun times spent there

I`ve been to that place on countless occasions in the last 17 years and nothing has changed.

I grew up beside the Recreation Grounds. The house you grew up in is now a block of apartments. The earliest greenkeeper I remember was Old Dickie who used to chase us when we sneaked in when the grounds were closed.

Thank,s I lived as a child in Portrush through the fifties, left in early sixties. Looking at the second Ariel photo my house has gone, used to live in the Recreation grounds. When they had the fireworks displays, at the end of the season the men who created the fireworks displays used to give me all the unused fireworks, happy days.
