And why it's better is because the rights of the individual are PROTECTED and can't be destroyed by the will of the mob (i.e. "democracy") If you're genuinely interested read the U.S. declaration of independence, bill of rights and constitution. It's irrelevant what the governor general or anyone in officialdom says. Britain has had no authority over Australia since the start of Federation. Their monarch does not reign over us. However, the result of a Republic referendum saw Australia choose to remain with the Commonwealth. That was of our own choosing and can be taken to mean that we acknowledge the British monarch in a symbolic way, not as our monarch in the traditional sense. The Commonwealth countries are allies, and friends, and that's good for all involved!!!!

What constitutional rights? The Australian constitution doesn't guarantee any rights, and is incredibly specific about the powers of the Governor General, never mind the fact most "rights violations" happened at the state level not the federal so not even in the purview of the Governor General.

If the the monarch dies the oath doesn't die with it, it transferred with the crown, though it is traditional for such oaths to be reaffirmed to the new monarch. I believe only the Victorian government actually can't sit without reaffirming it's oath to the new King. Also you didn't answer my question. Why would we want to be a republic?
