Canada wanted it’s proclamation to be closer to the way it’s done in the UK. For example ours wasn’t done at our gothic revival parliament but at the monarch’s residence Rideau Hall.

..... It’s called the commonwealth. Australia, New Zealand, and Canada have the King as their head of the state. They are not under British rule, the British parliament has no control over Canada, but the King is the king all over the commonwealth.
Canada is a separate country, but they share a Monarch. It's not so much that Britain still rules over Canada as it is that Charles is now also the King of Canada and a host of other countries lile Australia and New Zealand. When Queen Elizabeth the First died her cousin King James of Scotland became King of England. While Scotland and England's foreign policy became unified Scotland and England had their own separate governments and laws until the 1707 Acts of Union when Scotland and England formally united into the singular country of Great Britain. Canada is in a similar situation with Britain, but in reverse. It was a collection of colonies ruled directly by Britain that united into Canada and formed their own separate government and set of laws, but still recognized the British Monarch as their sovereign head of state. This arrangement became pretty tenable considering the British crown has been relegated to that of a figurehead.
Every country that still recognize the British Crown as their head of state is in the Commonwealth Realm. This includes countries such as Canada , Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, Bahamas, Belize and Papua New Guinea. I know Barbados recently left the Commonwealth and removed Queen Elizabeth as their ruling sovereign.

Most Canada is English, the only French speaking province is Quebec. Canada has 12 provinces if I am not mistaken. Canada was a British colony except Quebec was French colony. You know how the French and the English carved the world. Canada is part of the commonwealth who had the Queen as the head of state, and the Governor general is (was)the direct representation of the queen

Subjecthood by choice is an act of bravery and trust. We subject ourselves to the laws of the Crown in return crown protects and provides. It's a symbiotic relationship, and we trust the crown will not abuse its position of power and in turn the crown trusts the people will not turn and will serve if called upon.
This phenomenon actually permeates throughout our societies culturally, and is the main cultural difference between the Commonwealth and the US.

Canada actually joined the commonwealth as an independent state in 1931. They were not forced to do so.
