    I knew an old boy that did this for a friend. He nurtured it for 12 years then sadly passed away. A few weeks later the wisteria flowered for the first time. Every spring the wisteria flowers they have a BBQ in his memory.

    I purchased a Wisteria plant in 2004. I kept is alive somehow all these years. It never grew much more than 2’ high but every year it kept coming back to life. This year (2020) it had its first flowers. I am sure it’s a sign of something!

      ***** I was hoping this was going to have 6' racemes this year, the tag says they get that big. Maybe on older plants.

      @MoneyPit Jku it could take years for blooming unless you graft from a tree with blooms

    • @cattfishing
      @cattfishing 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @MoneyPit Jku well, I got one of my 2 to bloom the first year. But it died right after. The poor thing got stressed out from the drought we had and didn't get enough water, while at the same time kept getting blown over in its pot by the nasty winds we kept having. Ive heard of some people forcing blooms, but I definitely don't recommend purposely stressing your wisteria to this extent. But it seems my wisteria went into reproduction mode knowing it was going to die. Possibly. That's just my opinion. I can't imagine a other reason such a small and young wisteria going into full bloom out of nowhere like it did. I don't think it's completely dead, thankfully as I think I see some little leaf buds growing on some branches/vines. Fingers crossed.

    I have a wisteria plant that I have had for about 11 years. I have on it right now about 100 seed pods hanging from it. They have 3-4 seeds in each pod. It is mid July here, I leave them hanging until October then get them down and usually throw them away as I don't know what to do with them. Maybe now I'll try to start planting more around the yard. But I just have too many see pods. Thanks for the information in your video.

    Hi Brad. After watching you video, i decided to get some seeds and try to propagate them. I did exactly what you did and 2 weeks later, the seedling is now 6 inches tall with 2 big leaves.My problem is that every late afternoon, the leaves completely droop. The soil is moist. And in the morning, i wake up to a perfectly fine tree. I dont understand whats going on. Is it because its indoor?Any suggestions would be appreciated. ;)

      These are just Turgor movements caused by changes in osmotic pressure. These are normal in many plants and follow a circadian rhythm.

    I once was givin a wisteria from Georgia, I lived in michigan. That wisteria was the most beautiful flowering vines I've ever seen. I haven't had much luck with any others. Recently I ordered wisteria from wish, I received seeds identical to any wisteria seed I've seen. However a warning was issued due to a over abundance of assorted seeds from china showed up in mailboxes across usa. However mine was order, should I plant them or take them to the ag dpt

    I just noticed pods on my wisteria for the first time. You mentioned the seed pod used in the video was from last year. So is it correct I would just leave the pods on the plant and harvest seeds next year? I see the video is old so I was wondering how your seedlings are doing today?

    Just Break off the very top of it where it was hanging from and then take another full pod and stab it in the middle and twist the pods until it breaks in half.

    how long does it take to bloom if grown from seed?

    • @WebbyWunda
      @WebbyWunda 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wisteria don't 'come true' from seed, so your seedlings will be different. They might flower like the original does, better than it, or worse, or even not at all. They might start flowering the very first year, take several years to get going, or never bloom at all...
      Wisteria cuttings (using this year's growth) will guarantee it will have the same characteristics as the original plant. You might have to wait several years for blooms, like he did. Hopefully your plant is better than his, though it's better to snip flower buds off for the first year to encourage root production instead.

      It grows wild in the southeast US, and it's invasive. If left to do what it wants eventually it will take over anything it touches. Yes, it's pretty. but it can also be a nightmare.

    Wisteria don't 'come true' from seed, so seedlings will vary, being as good as the original, better than it, or worse. The racemes (flowers) will likely be different in size, quality and quantity, possibly color as well. Some wisteria seedlings will flower in their very first spring, but some plants take many years, and some refuse to bloom at all...
    Cuttings (using this year's growth) produce new plants with the same characteristics as the original so it's a much better option with wisteria. If they try to bloom the first year, it's better to forego the fun and carefully snip off flower buds to encourage root production.

    Responding to old video here... From seed? Remember this... you won't know what to expect of the results from seed... we have many Pecan trees here, some long pods, others round etc! If you want a specific type. you must plant from a graft...

      No. You could soak more than one at a time in the same glass. I think he only did one just as an example for the video.

    It seems common knowledge that Wisteria grown from seed can take 15 to 20 years to first flower.
