  • 9v9 youth soccer. This video piggybacks off the first intro video now looking at how we move the ball through the middle 1/3 of our field.

    I watched again and went back to the basics with my team and it was quite helpful. I am going to do it again at the next opportunity!

    Great video. My team is transitioning into 9v9 soon, im debating different formations, I think this one works best with my team. I would consider this more of a 2-3-2-1, with 2 centrebacks and a defensive trio in front, as the two fullbacks act as wingbacks/wide mids on the attack. Kind of like the 3-4-2-1 in 11v11, where the wide mids have to get goal side of opposing wingers on defence, but push up the wings on the attack.

    I tried this formation for theee games. We were generating a ton of chances but our wing backs struggled to get back on defense. I'm not sure how to teach defensive recovery or offensive discipline. We ended up scrapping the formation at a tournament for a 3-2-3 where the roles were simpler. As a result our defense was more steady and our offense less dynamic.

      Yeah takes more time to organize defensively for sure. 323 is easier in terms of setting your back line. Love the feedback!

    Appreciate the vids. I have my whole team watch your videos as homework. We run a 431 but it ends up looking like a 521 against aggressive/ offensively strong teams limiting our offense... any advice?

    • @CoachRorySoccer
      @CoachRorySoccer  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      521 because the def mid gets too deep? I mean it’s not the worst thing defending. Just have to have everyone on the same page and know how you’re going to counter once you win the ball.

      @CoachRorySoccer yes, plays like a 521 because DCM gets too deep (marking striker instead of #10) Having trouble establishing a midfield presence AND supporting the striker

    Hi there! Once again thank you for for amazing and practical video. I have 2 questions. 1) How would you manage (in the second third) to play against a 3-3-2 formation?
    2) is your number 6 usually your «strongest » player in terms of hability and iQ? Could it be a good idea to start my fu11 season with a strong 6 that can «teach » others by example… finding players and space and making pass towards…
    Thank you

    • @CoachRorySoccer
      @CoachRorySoccer  ปีที่แล้ว

      1. Do you mean a 323? Depends on how they are pressing. High vs med. Most teams are not low blocking.
      2. Yes the 6 is usually the best all around player.

    do you have videos discussing the defensive tactics of this formation? I.E. how to defend a 332/323 with the 4-3-1 and where the potential weak spots are?

      Nope. Will get it added to the list.

      With 4 defenders (flat) you’ll be solid against any formation.
      Weak spots I’d say is center mid position, you need a strong cm that is good on the ball for it to work

    How could a team practice this with only access to half of a field? I am very intrigued by this. At the rec dept where I coach everyone plays a 3-3-2 formation with a very direct style. I would like to throw something a little different at them this spring! This looks perfect.

    • @CoachRorySoccer
      @CoachRorySoccer  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You could do it on half a field. Just break down build up and attacking half.

    • @sharpy1695
      @sharpy1695 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I’d suggest if other teams are going 3-3-2 then play a 4-3-1, you’ll be solid defensively and if you have a quick midfielder then you turn defence into attack well.
      That formation has worked for us for over half a season now.

    We use the 3-4-1 formation with U11s. With the 2 wide players sitting deep from goal kicks to become an out option. Our biggest issue is when a team presses us man for man right on the edge of our area on top of our defenders. We just cant get out. Our keeper lacks the strength to clear the first press. Any thoughts?

    • @CoachRorySoccer

      How are you building up in the 341? For example, does the central CB turn into more of a 6 in your buildup?
      Also what is the sharpest of your second line? Is it a flat 4? Diamond?

    How to teach such thing at training

    • @CoachRorySoccer
      @CoachRorySoccer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'd start with pattern choreography. Then play 8v4, 8v5 to goal eventually getting up to 8v6, 8v7. Ball starts with CB in possession. Could have two small counter goals for defenders if they win the ball. Check out my attacking patterns video, its 7v7 but you get the idea with my example at the end of how to train it.
