Like offensive v defensive? I have an example video of 7v6 off v def on the channel. Usually, that works for older/more skilled teams. At this age I find 7v3 or 7v4 is about their limits.
Thank you so much coach Rory! It helps kids a lot to understand the formation and their positions! Would you pls make a video about 4-3-3 for U13? Thanks again!
Coach, your videos are integral to our rec team's training. Just want to understand - what's the advantage of having a 9 attack the near post, rather than the penalty spot? Wouldn't it be easier to teach 9 to penalty spot and AM's to their respective posts regardless of what side the attack initiates from?
Thanks for this. Do you have the 9 take near post to keep the striker furthest forward? It feels like it might be easier to tell (my) kids that the 9 always goes to penalty and the AMs go to the posts.
I think as long as you have dedicated runs your good. The specific placement probably doesn’t matter a ton. What I usually see is kids wiping it into the box and other players just “crash” the box without any real coordination.
@@CoachRorySoccer 100% that makes sense. I also have my full backs always joining/leading the attack. So we’re working on that. They’re very much playing like we have 11 players and they are wingers/wing backs or maybe just wide strikers.
Thank you for the amazing videos. I'm struggling with having kids understand positioning. What are your thoughts on identifying zones of operation/responsibility for each position. I coach 8v8 u12 team. ( we just like to be different in Canada). Most players could benefit from zonal responsibility, so they start thinking for themselves on where they need to be on the pitch. General formation difference from 9v9 is that we have one ACM instead of 2.
Follow up comment ... joystick coach identification was a true moment of self reflection for me. Thank you for that. Now I aim to empower players' thinking and zonal responsibility by themselves.
So depends a little bit on the team and who your opponent is etc. Basically do you want the wide back to either overlap here or make a direct run into the box and take the near post run from the 9? Or are you worried about the counter and just send the same runners minus the 9 who would cross it in?
Thanks!
Thank you!!
Thank you, great efforts, captain, but I wish he were in offensive and defensive compound exercises for 9 x 9 or 8 x 8 pitches.

I'll add it to the list! More regular content coming august!

As long as you’re consistent it doesn’t really matter. I just always have the 9 at near post in youngest age teams.
Thanks for the advise
Sure!

I think that a great idea. Especially with older groups like u12 they should be able to get those concepts!
Looks like the 8 and 9 are offsides when they run to the goal posts.
Blame the guy running the software! 😂
If the 9 receives the ball wide down the line and is the player sending in the cross, how to the runs to goal change?
