One of the reasons I love the lyrics to this song is because they feel like the random thoughts you'd have while you're just...doing nothing in particular (like riding your bike down the street on a Sunday afternoon.) Like, they're nonsensical in a way but they make just enough sense to form coherent thought. I dunno if that was the intent of the song writers but either way it's very unique.
It makes sense if you think about it. They’re talking about noticing things that are similar but not the exact same. Ice water same thing different types of matter. Steak is the meat of a cow but you’re not going to a farm and calling the cows steak. Autumn this year and last year is still autumn but it’s going to be slightly different, ABCD are from the same alphabet but not same letters, etc.

Alright everyone. Think I cracked the code on these lyrics. So, the main theme is its title: Look-a-likes. This theme plays when Sonic fights Metal Sonic. They are lookalikes, but fundamentally different to each other. It starts with... "On a Sunday, riding my bike/drinking my coffee, I notice many different things that look alike." So, the subject is in a relaxed position, not unlike Sonic himself lazing about on the beach at the start of the OVA. They idly, passively observe that some things look simillar. The lyrics can also be misheard as "I'mma Sonic fighting Robotnik" which I think was actually intended. I mean, that's what the OVA is very basically about. And during the fight with Metal, Sonic is in a way also fighting Robotnik, and himself finding many things that lookalike: the Badniks he fights and the animals he saves, Robotnik himself and the other humans and finally: himself and Metal. "Ice and water, steak and cow, autumn this year and last year, spark and burn, rain and cloud, A,B,C,D..." On the surface, this is just the singer exclaiming these look-a-like things, but the more you think, the more these are actually reflective of some overarching themes in the whole franchise. Ice is solid, hard, cold and not accomodating to life. It represents Robotnik and his mechanized world. Water is free-flowing, flexible, natural and allows for life to thrive. Plus it's blue, just like Sonic. Steak and cow being the same only would make a sense as lookalikes to a greedy capitalist who only sees profits and utility in things, and not the life and feelings of animals. Autumn this year and last year? At first they seem almost identical. Especially if you live in an enviroment that doesn't change much with the passing of the seasons, or a world without nature. But if you live around nature, all autumns are special and different. This can even point to a certain anxiety Robotnik might have over his life seeming to not change year by year. His own mechanical utopia would never change or age... Spark and burn, rain and cloud refer more to cause and effect. Metal Sonic's creation was the effect of Sonic's own existence. The letters of the alphabet all look very simillar if you think about it: just symbols on a piece of paper. But, it's the meaning we attribute to them that give them meaning. Monday, Tuesday, so is Friday: again referring to each day seeming simillar, unchanging as time slips by your fingers. Moons and headlights is particularly creepy, as it compares something large, majestical and a natural part of life to something small, mechanical, bringing images of rushing cars driving endlessly to work. What I say and what I think. These might seem simillar, but can be very different depending on how much of an honest person you are. But, if what you say and think are exactly the same? Then you're just a machine. Again, all these lookalikes might seem like the same thing, but deep down they're not at all. And one needs not to look at a thing's surface to see its true essence. Metal Sonic might look exactly like our blue blur, but it has none of his spirit. Inside, it's all just nuts and bolts. "A short while ago, i was born, and I memorized, quite a lot of names." This can be seen from the perspective of Sonic or Metal Sonic. For our hero, it's the fact that he's already found many friends in his life, ones who will always help him and pick him up when necessary. For Metal it makes even more sense. Although he was created only a few days ago, he was already filled with massive amounts of data regarding Sonic, Robotnik, Tails, other humans etc. Also, the lyric can be read as "Cause you're on a go, I was born" which also reflects that the purpose Metal was created was to surpass Sonic's speed. And once more, the lookalikes. These ones are from the full version, not this one: Air and oxygen - the natural thing we know of, breathe and experience and the distilled component part of air which on its own is toxic. Money in middle, starting speech - politics and economics, things which often become corrupted when one colludes with the other. History and history books - reading about something ain't the same as experiencing it, knowing deeply what it is. Metal's data about Sonic's history of rivalry with Eggman will never give him the full picture. Night and universe - The starlit sky makes one think of space and the universe. Human ocean, foot in pool - actually dunno about this one Imagery and in real life - again, visual data isn't the same as reality. If Metal relies on his visual sensors for comprehension, he'll never win, especially with a rival that can move as fast as sound or light. "A long time ago, one caveman, had a busy life, making tons of names" A mirror to the previous line. This can refer to Robotnik's endless scientific pursuits, megalomaniacally recreating mechanized animals, renaming them wanting to have a sense of control over nature from the ability to name and understand everything he can. The singer cheekily replies to this mad pursuit with a "must've had a busy day doin' all that." "Everything is born from this planet A number, a TV, even thoughts that entertain Everything came out of this planet A boyfriend, a pencil, even your new videos" This is the antithesis to Robotnik's worldview and this passive or dismissive attitude to life. Even his own machines, numbers, TVs, entertainment, tools, videos, even dakimakuras(hah) are made of the same materials as nature and animals and grass. So we need to have respect for those aspects of life as well. And just as much, Metal also came from this world. And so, even though he's a machine, he should also respect the world around him, because it's the same as him. This is even more important because the plot of the OVA is about Metal destroying the glaciers of the sky continent and as auch causing a chain reaction that would lead to utter destruction. So this is like a plea for Metal to stop, because even he and Robotnik will be destroyed in the process. This mirrors the still ongoing struggles with global warming in out own world and the self-destructive tendencies of companies and rich people to misinform other about and ignore the issue at hand, which ultimately they will not benefit from, either. The final line of the extended version is... "I notice new and universal lookalikes" So now these are not just surface-level comparisons. In the end of the OVA, Metal Sonic actually rejects Sonic's hand to be saved, acting against his own self-preservation instincts as a robot and developing a sense of pride, of identity. Maybe even realizing his own imperfection and the deeper connection he had to Sonic after being beaten by him, as well as the self-destructive nature of his goals. They both noticed a new way in which they were alike - a deeper, unspoken one. But, at the end, Metal realized that lookalikes aren't the same. "There can be only one Sonic"
Really cool analysis I absolutely love to see stuff like this, this actually added more value and meaning to the song for me, it's really deep when seen through this lens. Also for the Human ocean and foot in pool, in this lens, I think it would be comparing living life to simulating it. Like putting your foot in a pool can give you a miniscule idea of what the ocean feels like, but the actual ocean is on several different levels and can never be replicated.

shes just point out the similarities between those objects, moon and headlights look the exact same way at a distance. ice and water, steak and cow, they have a correlation to the proceeding object, steak comes from a cow, ice comes from water.
Ice and water are the same, steak and cow are the same, autumn comes every year, Clap and turn are borh dance, Rain and clouds are both water, The letters are all letters, Days are all days, Moon and headlights both are bright.
***** After reading your comment, i searched the lyrics... I always though she was saying " Oh, there is Sonic" My native languaje is spanish. The singer has a nice voice, but her diction is confusing :s
In one frame where he's wearing Sonic's clothes he points at the sky, so I found a screenshot of that and called it NaziOwlOVA.jpeg and posted it on 4chan.
There's a few people I know who dont understand why this is the main theme of the OVA, so I figured I'd clear it up for people who dont quite get it. While it's never directly referenced in the song, this song is referencing how much Metal Sonic and Sonic look alike to the characters in the series. (although they really dont look that much alike.)
I guess kinda similar to SA2 where basically no one could tell the difference from Sonic and Shadow even though they're even more un-alike compared to Sonic and Metal.
Dr.Robotnik/Eggman: 300 IQ. Always puts self-destruct button on every single one of his masterpieces. Dr.Wily: IQ matching Dr.Light's. Always has eight (9-12 If you count the extra bosses) remarkably powerfull robot masters, but never lets them gang up on his enemy and always puts them so far away from eachother... also makes them have the secret to eachother's weaknesses. ..... These two have alot in common.
***** Exactly! And we all have to admit Metal Sonic was also a bit touching even if not the "There is only one sonic" part. And i hate how they gave him a mouth in other games and shows! it doesn't work!
Yeah I agree. But Sonic went down the tubes in recent years, I mean who would've thought Nintendo would be working with Sega to make Sonic games? *shivers*
I think this makes sense from Metal Sonic's perspective, as he was born for the sole purpose of being Sonic's look-alike. The lyric "Cause you're on the go, I was born" particularly stands out.
I love her accent, that's what makes the song so great. The chores just makes you want to dance. I listened to this song over 5 times now. I LOVE THIS SONG!
I think iv still this over a hundred times ever more so online 😅I still have the vsh I think I took to my daycare once and the kids and I watch it that's how much I 💗this sonic ova😅
Man this OVA was weird. Keep in mind, I'm a huge weeab, so I came in expecting the standard weird anime shenanigans and just assumed that everyone who had reviewed this movie just weren't used to anime, but I still found a lot of stuff in this movie really bizarre. But I had such a good time watching it, and Metal Sonic is my boi, and since it's basically Metal's movie more than anything I can't help but love it
I still love this movie, this movie is still being referenced to this day on sonic media But my criticism about the movie is, it doesn't have too much content. Anyways but i think that live-action sonic movies cannot outstand this even though they're great, but not too much Seeing knuckles' hat in paramount series was a suprise btw.

This song is typically related to Metal Sonic, who had only just been created earlier in the movie. "A short while ago, I was born" is pretty acurate. Metal realised that some things can be similar or even identical, but there can only be one Sonic. It's a STRANGE concept, isn't it?
I still don't get it why people are hating on the english dub of this movie. Martin Burke did a great job voicing sonic imo. Sonic sounds like an teenager and Tails sounds like an kid, i don't have any problems with that I sometimes believe that, people forget Tails is supposed to be a kid
this song fuckin SHLAPPS bro so did this movie. they need to acknowledge it again as strange and detached from the series as it was its a great addition to the animations sonic has produced. tho seira and the president dont need to come back. the owl however, he can stay.
Imagine if Sonic kept going with the feeling of Sonic CD instead of turning into "power of friendship" and all that shit. Sonic would probably be more successful than he is now
I think this song represents metal coming into the world and he sees things that are alike like steak and cow and moons in headlights he doesn't understand.
"You may know every thing that I am going to do, but that's not going to help you because I know everything you are going to do! Strange isn't it!?!"
You just won the internet for me today. :)

Alright everyone. Think I cracked the code on these lyrics.
So, the main theme is its title: Look-a-likes. This theme plays when Sonic fights Metal Sonic. They are lookalikes, but fundamentally different to each other.
It starts with...
"On a Sunday, riding my bike/drinking my coffee, I notice many different things that look alike."
So, the subject is in a relaxed position, not unlike Sonic himself lazing about on the beach at the start of the OVA.
"Ice and water, steak and cow, autumn this year and last year, spark and burn, rain and cloud, A,B,C,D..."
On the surface, this is just the singer exclaiming these look-a-like things, but the more you think, the more these are actually reflective of some overarching themes in the whole franchise.

This can be seen from the perspective of Sonic or Metal Sonic.
These ones are from the full version, not this one:
Air and oxygen - the natural thing we know of, breathe and experience and the distilled component part of air which on its own is toxic.
Human ocean, foot in pool - actually dunno about this one
Imagery and in real life - again, visual data isn't the same as reality. If Metal relies on his visual sensors for comprehension, he'll never win, especially with a rival that can move as fast as sound or light.
"A long time ago, one caveman, had a busy life, making tons of names"
A mirror to the previous line. This can refer to Robotnik's endless scientific pursuits, megalomaniacally recreating mechanized animals, renaming them wanting to have a sense of control over nature from the ability to name and understand everything he can. The singer cheekily replies to this mad pursuit with a "must've had a busy day doin' all that."
"Everything is born from this planet
A number, a TV, even thoughts that entertain
Everything came out of this planet
A boyfriend, a pencil, even your new videos"
This is the antithesis to Robotnik's worldview and this passive or dismissive attitude to life.
"I notice new and universal lookalikes"
So now these are not just surface-level comparisons.
"There can be only one Sonic"
you didn't have to go this hard on a song analysis. you should honestly make a vid on it atp.
this is very cool
Really cool analysis I absolutely love to see stuff like this, this actually added more value and meaning to the song for me, it's really deep when seen through this lens. Also for the Human ocean and foot in pool, in this lens, I think it would be comparing living life to simulating it. Like putting your foot in a pool can give you a miniscule idea of what the ocean feels like, but the actual ocean is on several different levels and can never be replicated.

+AshKirby - No, it doesn't. They just sound good together in a mashup.
Shame that this wasn’t by Toei Animation.
The DarkFox ready for 2019 sonic movie??
Such a good song. But the lyrics are.........weird.
I can't even understand what she's saying half the time...
Light Gerald Dark Why the hell does Metal Sonic think about steak and cow and riding bikes on Sundays?
Light Gerald Dark Possibly but the fact that he's a robot makes me think "How the fuck can he even have thoughts?"
Light Gerald Dark Yeah, I forgot, woops...
Yeah I just read the lyrics and their just plain random. But I like the tune of this song
0:36 - 0:51 Am I hearing this right?: "Ice and water, steak and cow, Autumn this year and last year. Clap and turn, rain and cloud, A B C D. Tuesday, Wednesday, so is Friday, how 'bout moons and headlights? What I say and what I think, A B C D E F." ...Like what?
I think that's pretty much what she says.
shes just point out the similarities between those objects, moon and headlights look the exact same way at a distance. ice and water, steak and cow, they have a correlation to the proceeding object, steak comes from a cow, ice comes from water.
Think about it......
Ice and water are the same, steak and cow are the same, autumn comes every year, Clap and turn are borh dance, Rain and clouds are both water, The letters are all letters, Days are all days, Moon and headlights both are bright.
I want to unhear the lyrics
This used to the THE Sonic movie back when I was kid. Now, There's 3 live action films about Sonic. This movie will forever be THE Sonic movie for me.
Misheard lyrics from when I was younger:
On for Sonic, riding a bike
I know this, I know this
Many things that look alike
I heard.
oh the sonic, riding behind
I noticed I noticed
many things that look alike
Caleb Magnuson It's:
On a Sunday, riding my bike,
I notice, I notice,
many things that look-a-like.

I love this song, but what the hell are they talking about
The relationship between sonic and metal sonic.
The person is riding her bike and noticing many things that look alike
***** That rhymed! :-D

I still like to post it on there from time to time with no context.
I like how the Metal Sonic theme in Sonic 4 is similar in rhythm to this song, just faster.
Dr.Robotnik/Eggman:
300 IQ.
Always puts self-destruct button on every single one of his masterpieces.
Dr.Wily:
IQ matching Dr.Light's.

Did they just use "ABCDEFG" as lyrics?
Lunatic
Unfortunately.
Nope, A B C D E F actually ;)
Lunatic Better than despacito
The ting goes ABCDEF
Yep
This is cheesy as hell. But quite catchy.
I can tell.
I know it’s been 5 years but the heck do you mean by cheesy?
How is this cheesy?
Yep
What? How is this cheesy? lmao
// That movie should have had AT least one sequel. I really liked it, especially subbed.
// The English voices to me were pretty fucked up, especially after seeing the Japanese version. They sounds extremely stuffy, especially Tails...
*shivers*
The mario fans.
I like Mario, but Sonic games shouldn't be made by the same people.
I think this makes sense from Metal Sonic's perspective, as he was born for the sole purpose of being Sonic's look-alike. The lyric "Cause you're on the go, I was born" particularly stands out.
My god, Sonic Mania's anime cutscenes REALLY reminded me of this awesome movie!
Way to bring back the glorious 90s memories, SEGA!
29 years old, grew up im a toxic home, these games and this vhs were taped together with a sega game gear system, and sonic 2 for the game gear
I love her accent, that's what makes the song so great. The chores just makes you want to dance. I listened to this song over 5 times now. I LOVE THIS SONG!
I LOVE THIS SONG AND THIS MOVIE
There's no guiltier pleasure i have than this movie.
And this song.=
It's too good to be a guilty pleasure
Damn, so many years later and this song hits so differently. Absolutely love this!
They didn’t need to make this OVA’s music so good, but they did any way and that’s commendable
People are confused about the lyrics but she’s listing things that are quite similar. Just like Sonic and Metal Sonic in the movie
This was the best video game film from the 90's.
Fight me
I cant honestly.
Ok boomer lol
@@MasterAlpha1000 I'm literally not even 20
I love this movie
Sounds like a song straight out of Tenchi Muyo! I like it.
One time in like 2004 I watched this ova around 5 times back to back.
Big same lmao I remember staying up late and running downstairs to watch it on DVD, then falling asleep halfway in because it was late
I think iv still this over a hundred times ever more so online 😅I still have the vsh I think I took to my daycare once and the kids and I watch it that's how much I 💗this sonic ova😅
Brings back childhood memories of renting the VHS from the local library and watching it over and over again.
Couldn’t blame u! I discovered at a blockbuster lol and was already hooked with sonic! This movie just made me love him even more!
Damn the feels!!!!
This is the TRUE Sonic Movie!
Also it really seems like the Adventure series. For example: Sonic's design seems like a fusion of the two.
I grew up on the 90's games, cartoon and anime ova! I love you!Thank you so much for posting!
I miss the old days
me too - me 3 years ago
This music is strange, isn't it?
°~°.... really?
This was a good movie. It's way better than that crappy live-action Super Mario Bros. movie.
I'd compare this with the Mario Bros. OVA instead, to be fair.
@Random Konong I can confirm. Sonic Movie is good.
@@Indomavel2112 nop the movie is a shit
@@tavoActionFunky Paramount should use the well known "Strange isn't it?" in the 2020 sonic movie.
Or the OVA theme
I think it would make it better
@@tavoActionFunky Naaaaaah
Man this OVA was weird. Keep in mind, I'm a huge weeab, so I came in expecting the standard weird anime shenanigans and just assumed that everyone who had reviewed this movie just weren't used to anime, but I still found a lot of stuff in this movie really bizarre. But I had such a good time watching it, and Metal Sonic is my boi, and since it's basically Metal's movie more than anything I can't help but love it
Its sonic the hedgehog, it’s not an anime lol
@@MustacheDLuffy But the OVA was supposed to be the pilot for an anime, but the OVA wasn't that well-received in Japan.
@@BassGal92 that’s interesting, honestly I’d be interested in seeing it
Oh the so did.
Riding my bike.
I notice.
I notice.
I heard sonic
"im the sonic riding the bike" damn you beat me to it
I still love this movie, this movie is still being referenced to this day on sonic media
But my criticism about the movie is, it doesn't have too much content. Anyways but i think that live-action sonic movies cannot outstand this even though they're great, but not too much
Seeing knuckles' hat in paramount series was a suprise btw.
Sonic OVA "Look-a-Like" Music 0:00/2:56
Language: English USA 🇱🇷, Japanese Korean 🇯🇵🇰🇷
1996
Performed by Riu Konaka
With his best the video game from Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie OVA in (1996) English Dub or Japanese Sub.
The Lyrics:
On a Sunday, riding my bike
I notice, I notice, different things that look alike
On a Sunday, riding my bike
I notice, I notice, many many things that look alike
Ice and water, steak and cow
Autumn this year and last year
Spark and burn, rain and cloud
A, B, C, D...
Tuesday, Wednesday, so is Friday
How 'bout moons and headlights?
What I say and what I think
A-B-C-D-E-F...
A short while ago (A short while ago)
I was born (I was born)
In the memory (in the memory)
By a lot of names
On this planet, drinking my coffee
I notice I notice, different things that are alike
On this planet, drinking my coffee
I notice, I notice, many many things that are alike
Ice and water, steak and cow
Autumn this year and last year
Spark and burn, rain and cloud
A, B, C, D...
Tuesday, Wednesday, so is Friday
How 'bout moons and headlights?
What I say and what I think
A-B-C-D-E-F...
A short while ago (A short while ago)
I was born (I was born)
Had a busy life (Had a busy life)
Making tons of names
On a Sunday, riding my bike
I notice, I notice, different things that look alike
On a Sunday, riding my bike
I notice, I notice, many many look-a-likes
On this planet, drinking my coffee
I notice I notice, different things that are alike
On this planet, drinking my coffee
I notice, I notice, many many things that are alike
Everything is born from this planet
A number, a TV, even thoughts that entertain
Everything is out of this planet
A boyfriend, a pencil, even your new videos
And everything is...
On this planet, riding my bike
I notice, I notice, different things that are alike
On this planet, riding my bike
I notice, I notice, many many look-a-likes
On this planet, riding my bike
I notice, I notice, different things that are alike
On this planet, riding my bike
I notice, I notice, new and universal look-a-likes
Yeah the song's lyrics have nothing to do with what is happening while it's playing.
Should have used this in the Sonic The Hedgehog 2019 trailer
Shes talking about things that are the same but different.
Different things that look alike :)
Its nice that sampling songs and turning them into beats is still a thing people and I do
This...this is the full version of this song! Dude, I love you right now!
"I'm the Sonic riding the bike" 0:15 That's how it sounds like x'D

Robin W its not even that its damaged im pretty sure my parents gave it away with a bunch of other VHS tapes. years ago
Sonic sounds like an teenager and Tails sounds like an kid, i don't have any problems with that
I sometimes believe that, people forget Tails is supposed to be a kid
How do you make a song with such weird lyrics but it still sounds SOOOOO good??!

this song fuckin SHLAPPS bro so did this movie. they need to acknowledge it again as strange and detached from the series as it was its a great addition to the animations sonic has produced.
tho seira and the president dont need to come back. the owl however, he can stay.
I have a memory of me as a kid when my dad bought me a DVD for this movie and I stalled on the menu for this song
Half of the lyrics don't seem to make sense to me, but I love the movie and the song so much >w
It's just a song about things that are alike, but not completely the same, for example ice and water, and steak and cow.

Me too
Whoever made this song did so good! I wish i met them now to thank them for this song in the movie
I thought on the beginning she was singing “ova sonic, riding my by!” When it was really “on a Sunday, riding my bike!”
Imagine if Sonic kept going with the feeling of Sonic CD instead of turning into "power of friendship" and all that shit. Sonic would probably be more successful than he is now
I always thought exactly that. It simply fits so much better to Sonic.
I always thought that the atmosphere around Sonic CD is something special.
Agreed, Sonic was never about the power of friendship, he was about the power of justice and how people deserve to be free no matter what.
Well, why not about both
Its always the games right
Guess they had to please the fans of 2, 3, and Knuckles
The movie was great, but I just think there can be more to the story........
Like me uprising and trying to kill sonic again? Nice try.
This was made as a sort of pilot for a Sonic anime series, but the anime never got anywhere thanks to how unpopular Sonic is in Japan.
