Mike I actually went to art School straight from high school for commercial advertising for 2 years although I never did it professionally and ended up in another field completely, I will always have I love for all things advertising, cinematic, prop art, and the like thanks for doing this!!
Just excellent… episode aired on my wife Kathryn Allsopp’s birthday… and we gofunded the show.. would do it again… loved that my wife is in credits in time for her birthday! Thanks
Ok so that's awesome knowing the history of that paper, I remember all the theories it's created over the years because it is used sooooo much across the industry. I could spend *WEEKS* just viewing the items stored on those shelves and still not loose the feeling that their existence brings. I only wish the video was longer as I'd love an in depth video of just the items stored, I mean you barely scratched the surface with the things you showed lol. Amazing content man I'll definitely be watching 👍
I have to play to the youtube algorithm and my budget. Which was akin to a shoestring. If it gets picked up by a streaming service. I'll definitely be going back
Loved this for sure! Seeing those offset presses brings back memories of working at a web press and also my mom working at a vitamin company that printed their own labels. Can't wait for the next episode!
It turned out just amazingly well! I think your production values, the writing, direction, everything just looks really professional! The color turned out great too, that’s something I noticed from your early trailer. I love the music. Loved it! I am so happy to have contributed to this. I will contribute again if needed. Keep up the great work!
Lots of fun and information. Loving this show. Made me remember how I felt watching the behind the scenes specials before extra features on DVDs. Looking forward to the next episode.
Really cool and insightful on this. I knew about the newspaper, but amazing to know it's been the same guy to make all of them! Can't wait for more episodes
Looking forward to the debut! Subscribed, set reminder, and hopefully I can catch it on my lunch break tomorrow! Been following on TikTok for a long while now, glad to see the long form finally! I wish you great success! 🍻🇺🇸🤘🏻😎
First of all, congratulations on the first episode of what I hope will be a very long and successful series! That was an awesome start! Loved seeing the inner workings of Earl Hayes Press, a company that is one of the unsung heroes of the movie business. Would love to explore that place!
Bravo Mike! I couldn't watch this when it premiered, but I made sure to watch it before I went to bed. Like many other I very quickly gravitated toward your videos on tiktok, because even from the first couple ones, you could just tell there was such passion and love behind every word your were saying. It's very nice to be able to listen to you speak that passion for more than a limited minute. Cannot wait for more!
FANTASTIC first show!! That really was so interesting. I would love to spend a couple days prowling around that place, the treasures seem endless! I can’t wait for the next episode of PROPS TO HISTORY !
This is even better than I expected! Congrats! So well done and I can feel the passion you put into this. The TikToks were the appetizer. This is the main course!
One of EHP's most FAMOUS props was their CASH. "Was" because their plates were seized by the Feds, Once, a director wanted real-looking money for a lengthy poker game in the Steve McQueen movie The Cincinnati Kid. "The Secret Service signed off on the plates we made," Hernandez says. "But then the money started turning up all over the world even though they had identical serial numbers and were "signed" by our artist, not the US Treasurer." The Secret Service insisted the remaining cash, plates, and all the copies were burned in the yard outside - while they supervised, Ralph's grandson Keith adds. "They even took the ashes away."
Looking at that original Vaudeville poster was crazy. A poster about 120ish years old. Great show. So glad you shared it. I enjoyed the interviews too. That place is like mixing a museum with a production warehouse. I'd love to know what a movie or show prop master order might look like for the whole production and the type of sourcing they go through.
@@PropsToHistory I really look forward to it! Maybe you could make a Patreon where you share extras like bloopers and behind the scenes? Then the show could keep going!
Alright! New favorite show on YT, this was great I interned with a prop master/set builder in LA for a couple of months and boy did this take me back. I was tasked with renting out the props for a music video this one time. They gave me access to the WB props warehouse and i took 2x as long as necessary getting lost in there and taking it all in. So many incredible original props, i was in heaven. Rediscovering prop TH-cam reminded me how much i love filmmaking. I think once I finish my carpentry degree I’ll move back to L.A…
Awesome Job Mike! Great content, I love the trivia, the details. The old printing press ... Takes me way back to learning photo-litho... Keep up the good work!
I had no idea Morley and the newspaper were connected. And I love that they put Earl in the paper
So much has come from that shop on the last 100 years. It's insane
