It might be worth trying an industrial adhesive, like Loctite E-120HP, to join pieces without heating the metal (or nearby paint). I wouldn't use it for the main roll bar structure, but the strength is probably good enough for the trim panels you were spot welding in this video. Plus it can join dissimilar metals, and join to other materials like plastic.
Boy, how niche can this channel possibly get for me! Putting bits from a car i own and love, into one of my favourite cars ever built, doing it in an elegant, almost architectural way, while playing music from my favourite game of all time. From one FGC/car dad to another, I wish you all the best and looking forward to seeing more!
I love this, thank you so much! I began making videos of this project in order to save time when catching up with old friends, so I don't have to explain the same things over so many times. I nerded out and added music I like. I never could have expected there are so many Dads out there who appreciate these old cars, understand a Dad's budget, and grew up with the arcade culture and music. This really means a lot to me, thank you. 🫰🫰🫰 Did you watch the first video? It's got some really good jams too! 🤘
Loving the progress and the metal a pillar "tie-ins" on the car look really good! I'm glad that you were able to avoid having any paint burn visible on the roof line due to your weld placement. If i may suggest if you are worried about the heating that comes with stitch welding the rest of the "tie-ins" you could instead use 3M panel bond to seal the rest of the welded area without any heat. I have not used it myself but i have seen it be used a lot lately and seems like a great way to create strong bonds in the body without having to melt some metal.
That's an EXCELLENT suggestion I will definitely look into it. I know glue is used heavily in modern chassis construction and I think this might be the perfect use case for it. Thank you very much! 🙏
@@DesirousCrown84 thank you!! I just started making these videos for my friends so they know what I'm doing. I appreciate the feedback, it means a lot! ❤️
I've only watched part of the video, but very glad you're planning to keeping the factory dash. I'm biased but I think the factory interior in these cars looks better than 90% of the other cars I've seen. Edit, when I pressed the like button the count went from 68 to 69. Nice.
Isn't cutting the cage in so many points defeat it's purpose though? But whatever it's probably still much stronger than a stock rx7. I wish you will never ever have to find out how strong it is! Love from Italy man
I agree, and probably won't cut any more bars. The door bars had to go, besides the door bars the only bars I removed are the little triangles at the top of the windshield area. I think I can make some nice triangles at the bottom of the windshield area, which can be hidden behind the dashboard. They will achieve and serve and same function! 🫡
I just looked it up and boy, it looks like it's more headache than its worth! I will need to cut all 4 pillars to remove the roof, then bond the CF roof to the remaining pillars. I love creative ideas though! This will also help solve my moon-roof issue, which is a giant hole I need to fill. Thanks! You definitely got me thinking! 🤔
@@howihowi yup! Even if you just remove the sun/moon roof- removal of the mechanism and glass itself could net a maybe 10 pound net weight savings? And that’s up top too! Love your build my man! 💪🏼
Hi! 😊Unfortunately I don't IG. I've just been really busy with life and kids stuff so haven't been able to work on the project much. I look forward to spending more time on it during the holidays. I will keep you posted! Sorry for the delay! 🙏🙏
I hope progress is going well! Excited for the next one.
Crazy how such good video quality has so few views. Glad the yt algorithm hit me with your channel. Keep it goin', this project is insane

I always loved the look of the 90s RX7. On a Dad budget maybe, but it'll quite a bit nicer than the average Dad car by the time you're done.

cutting compound that car will revive it then polish I do that on sun faded roof hood trunk cars and it shines love.
You're giving me hope! Thank you! I really don't want to spend money on a paint job so I will try buffing it like you suggested! 🤝
Thanks.
Go carbon fiber roof! Problem solved saves the weight up top as well- cheaper than a whole paint job too or less to paint! 😉👍🏼
