How to choose the right nude lipstick

- Finally I've got round to filming my nude lipstick film. A nude lipstick is a key item that everyone should have in their makeup bag. Especially if you are wearing a strong eye or you want to wear a tonal makeup. There are so may different shades, I understand how difficult it can be to find the right shade for you. Hopefully this film will help a few of you out.

This was so interesting! Thank you very much for the assistance. For some reason, nearly all of Charlotte Tilbury’s lipstick range reads on me as very orange. Very Victoria is just about the only one I can get away with. It always makes me wonder what it is about my coloring that brings out the orange!

Lovely video and thank you. Personally I can't do nude/brown/orange/peach/caramel/pale. No idea if my skin is warm or cool but I definitely need pink (with blue in it, not yellow).

Love your videos Caroline! As a very fair, cool-toned brunette, I find the best 'my lips but better' lipsticks I've found so far are by Bobbi Brown - the Sandwash Pink lipstick and the Crushed Liquid Lip in Hippy Shake. Am curious about those Charlotte Tilbury ones now though...

Ahhh... loved all the colours in the 2nd n 3rd set shown... was loke a mini encyclopedia of nude lipsticks. ..personally i don't do a bold eye yet love a nude lip... so go for one shade darker n its my perfect my lips but better look!
Thank you so much for this lovely nude tutorial. I am light complected and most nudes make me look like the Walking Dead! I love these Rimmel choices. I prefer to spend my makeup budget on good foundations and skincare so wearing the more affordable lip products are perfect for me. I love the affordable Colourpop luxe lipsticks. Oh thank you! I have a pink undertone, but medium shaded lip. I always choose a "pinky nude" but end up with one that is too light, which is not a good look on a darker shaded lip. So frustrated I can't go with the lighter hues. Will try your suggested dupe lines. : )
Hi thanks for the recommendations. I have extremely white Scottish skin which is so pale a white mixer is essential for foundations. I can't wear a nude as such but my natural lipcolour is almost a pale mauve. Bare minerals gen nude matte in slay is my lips but better and fab with a smoky eye for evening. During the day a soft rose or mid tone pinky natural ie a few shades darker than my own lipcolour, is more flattering as I need to add some colour to my face. It was interesting to see how the different tones can look better or worse in very similar colours.
I have quite warm-toned complexion, but for some reason more pink, cooler-toned lips look better on me. My perfect nude is Artdeco Hydra Lip Booster in 38 Rosewood. It’s more “my lips, but better/brighter” in winter and a perfect glossy nude in summer. Doesn’t drain colour out of my face.

I think what we're all questing after, is the color of ones lips after a long make-out session. Freshly Snogged! Also, thank you thank you, for showing the miracle blur, it has been difficult finding any reviews of the MB specifically. PS - we can't buy Max Factor in the US, unless we purchase blindly online, which can make for haphazard shade selecting.
I’m a medium skintone and very Victoria is very very nice on me. Mac liptensity driftwood is a beautiful winter nude, feels like a balmy gloss but is a lovely emollient lipstick.
Sam Nicol I’m medium too, but olive, and Victoria looks grey on me. I love Stoned Rose for a stronger neutral and Bitch Perfect for a pale.

I am OBSESSED with NUDE lipstick!! I just mix a very nude ( browny foundation like) with a pinky nude to find my favorite color. I also like to mix liquid lipsticks. I love Kate moss's Nude!! Thanks for the vid!!

I’m pale and cool toned, Rimmel Kate 45 is the perfect nude for me, I love it. Have to say, not a nude but my other favourite natural looking but with a bit of oomph lipstick is Bobbi Brown Sandwash Pink.

Thank you Caroline, I always struggle with nudes as my skin is light-medium with cool undertones but my lips are quiet pigmented naturally so I usually end up looking like „death warmed over“ 🤣 so I mostly give up and buy a stronger colour...

complexion. Is a nude for darker skin a good option?
Try Beauty by Christian Audette (it’s a collab with Mel Thompson... I am light / medium with neutral - cool undertones and it’s the bomb. I bought both the lip liners but would suggest the darker one called smooches. Goes perfectly and add just a tiny bit of depth but the light one “kitten” is lovely too. They aren’t cheap but worth every penny if you are prepared to give it a whirl. Also the Milani lip pencil in “all natural” is brilliant. Just add a gloss over the top. Hope that helps. I have been struggling for 30+ years to find “the nude” and now I have.
Thanks so much, Caroline! I have so many failed nude shades in my makeup stash that I need to throw out. I fall into the same category as you with the fair skin w/pink undertones. Though, I think I might have the Rimmel 45, but if I don't, I will buy it. Here is a bit of "Yankee humor." When I first saw the Rimmel "Kate" collection, I was all excited because I thought it was Kate Middleton-inspired at first, then realized my faux pas and that it was Kate Moss. Oops! LOL!
Great as always, thank you. I like the idea of nudes as I don't need a lot of colour on my face to make me look really made up. I struggle with nudes however, as they seem to make my teeth look yellow. Any recommendations?
I have such a hard time finding nude lipsticks that suit me. My lips are full and have quite a strong color on them naturally, so nudes tend to look odd on me. Thank you for giving inspiration to finding my perfect nude.

Thanks sooooo much Caroline. I watched the video three times trying to come up with a sort of "rule" to avoid me keeping on spending money on the wrong nudes. Could it possibly be that the more flalttering colours are always slightly darker that your complexion and have to be more vibrant and richer? When you showed the right and wrong ones against your face, to me they looked this way. I always went for colours similar to my complexion which looked draining on my lips....

I really love my lips but reluctantly abandoned nudes as I'm a woman of a certain age and so it just washed me out but NOW I see I need a pinky nude not a nudey nude - happy days. Nude lipstick is so hard to get right! I have MAC faux and brave, both very pink on me. Pillow talk is brown and I'm never sure it does much for me. I have rimmel no.45 which I like. Currently got a tan after holiday and the only thing that works slightly is honey nude by max factor. I have so many nudes I don't touch because they make me look like death or give me a really obvious lipline. Most of the time, I end up wearing lip balm 🙉
Hi Caroline. Which nude would you recommend for a very pale complexion (warm skin tone) with dark hair (like Snow White)? Loved your video, but your hair and skin tone is so different to mine x
I wanted to ask the same. Having a very fair + yellow skin tone (Nars Gobi or Hourglass Immaculate Porcelain) and dark hair, I almost always need a blue-red or berry lip to brighten and flatter my face. Plus with Asian features, I can't really pull off much in terms of eye shadow without looking ridiculous (or "editorial," lol), so I'd rather wear a lip balm so my pigmented lips show through than a nude lip color.

I’m very pale cool toned, lot of pink undertones & for anyone else in the MAC NW15 range try MAC Modesty. If you tried their Velvet Teddy & it’s too dark and pulls too brown or orange try Modesty.
If you are a slight bit more in the NW20 range & like Modesty but want a bit more pink but still nude to neutral try MAC Faux.
My daughter in law uses Faux while I use Modesty as our go to nudes with a bit of pink. We are both pale cool pink toned skin people. She’s a touch deeper than me, I’m a bit more pale.
They are half the price of the higher cost lipsticks here in Canada & easier to test at a Mac shop or counter. We don’t have access to testers of Charlotte Tilbury in our Sephora- CT is all online for now and not all of our drugstores have testers for the Rimmel lipsticks or a full line.
For fellow Canadians try Shoppers/Pharmaprix or London Drugs where they keep a closer eye on the testers & the product is mostly available.
Oh Caroline, get your hands on Dancefloor Princess and JK Magic from the new CT Hot Lips 2 line. HEAVEN.
What blusher are you wearing Caroline? Don’t think it’s listed below. I also wear Bitch Perfect and your blusher looks so good with it! (Unless it’s just your own lovely colouring of course!)

I managed to score (finally) a nude that is amazing on everyone I have used it on. It’s Beauty by Christian Audette with either Smooches or Kitten lip liner. It’s amazing on my light/medium (winter) to medium (summer skin). Absolutely sold. I bought two backups it’s that good. And it LASTS. Also the “all natural” lip pencil by Milani is amazing. I have tried every nude known to mankind and they are either too pink, too dead looking, too brown but the ones above are PERFECT. Worth looking at if you are my skin colouring. There is also an orangey / red that you would love called Puffin. I am always a bit scared of a bold lip but I have been mixing it with a red MAC palette and it damn well rocks my world. Three times I wore it last week. A world record and I am working from home. So why the fact I did my makeup was a miracle in itself. Check out the Christian Audette is a collar with Mel Thompson and I adore them.

I found my perfect nude lipstick. Huda beauty Demi matte in magul and matte in bombshell. I have light skin with both warm and cold undertone. I will never look to any other 💄
Hi Caroline. All your videos are very informative, but in many occasions I feel left out (today for example). The options you give are mostly Non Cruelty Free products. I find nude lipsticks hard to wear. I have a couple but never reach for them.
So I was once told your perfect nude is the color of your gums. No idea if this is accurate. Some nudes really seem to pull a yellow cast in my teeth.
C Mac the peachy nude lipsticks make teeth look yellow. Try MAC Modesty or Faux for more pinky undertones. The more bluish the pink is, the less yellow or peach in the tone means that teeth look whiter.

Yes have the same problem, I like Mac Japanese Maple with a little lip liner after so it finishes it off rather than a visible line. I will have a look at modesty though, thanks
