as a drummer I must say Weckl is one of the most competent and skillful drummer over the world. you will not find anyone who developed such sense of groove and technique while playing naturally.
I saw these guys this Thursday and one thing you can't call Dave Weckl is a lite hitter!! They are highly skilled and amazingly talented guys ... and down to earth as well ... I am honoured to have been there to see and hear them.

Cool.to clarify I ask this question.Have u ever heard Weckl put down a straight funky funky groove w/o hitting the cymbals & rolling the toms. Have u ever heard Weckl in a song with any muscian & just groove straight w/ the song several plus bars w/o rolls & cymbals & u said damn he & the sax o bass o guitar r just straight funky grooving w/o all that busy playing & the bass drum & snare r just hitting ur heart.I have so much music in which the feel is the same.Weckl is 1 of the best not thee.
It is funny that you would say that...One thing Weckl has a problem with is grooving...He seems to not have a natural feel to stay in the pocket like Gadd Chambers, Coluaita, Smith...He is more comfortable being always busy on the kit...That is why he plays with musicians that always fit his style of playing..
My hand feels very warm around this thing in my pants my friend of lesser knowledge.Weckl is a lite hitter, can groove 2 a point but cannot not funk & he plays w/ guys who fits his style..I challenge u to listen 2 the other 3 drummers w/ several different artist & listen to how their drumming changes to the artist..Whether it is hard, soft, fast, slow, loud..Go on youtube & pull up John Mclaughlin in concert w/ Chambers 4 example & tell me how Weckl could pull that off w/ the power & precision.
Dave is getting younger lol...Get your knowledge together and read and understand...Best drummer please!!!...Just stop it you would be a waste of conversation.
