Not to overshare, but I lost someone in my family a few days ago and the crying didn't really happen-I've all but been waiting for it to process and kind of hit me, which didn't happen until I watched this goddamn video, lol. I Just Want to Rule the World and Clear Me Up played and it just kinda happened. So thanks Alec and thanks Jazz for helping me through that!
    Kind of funny how it's always music, though. Last time I cried over someone passing it was to Fallout 76's version of Take Me Home, Country Roads (a song I still can't listen to l o l), which is kind of stupid too.

  • @nonexistence00

    well, considering that the area of a circle is _πr^2_ , and the area of a square is _s^2_ , we can deduce this:
    these equations must be equal (we are looking at the same area, after all):
    _πr^2 = s^2_
    we can then factor out the exponent of 2 on one side by taking the root of the other side of the equation:
    _sqrt(πr^2) = s_
    since _sqrt(x * y^2) = y * sqrt(x)_ , we can factor out the _r^2_ :
    _r * sqrt(π) = s_
    a little bit of algebraic manipulation (moving stuff around) and we get this:
    _s / sqrt(π) = r_
    or:
    _s / r = sqrt(π)_
    or maybe even:
    _(s / r) ^ 2 = π_
    thus, we can conclude that if a square and circle have the same area, and considering that the radius of the circle and length of the square's side are measured in the same unit, the ratio of the side length to the radius ( _s / r_ ) is equal to the square root of pi ( _π_ ) or roughly _1.77245385_ . this should help in squaring the circle to a certain degree.
    what a waste of time :)

    • @thatoneguy9582
      @thatoneguy9582 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      i think the whole thing about squaring the circle was that they wanted to literally construct the square, i.e. with a straight edge and compass
      and because of pi being transcdental (read: fucking weird) there’s no way to construct a length of pi, let alone square root pi, using a straight edge and compass, thus making the original problem impossible
      -i’m a math nerd let me have this one-

    • @nonexistence00
      @nonexistence00 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thatoneguy9582 i mean, you could always approximate to 3.14 if youre lazy, or to 15 d.p. if youre actually trying

    • @samwalko
      @samwalko ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@nonexistence00 The thing with compass-and-straightedge problems is that it's really easy to cut a line segment in half, easy enough to cut it in thirds, maybe even in fifths or other reciprocals of integers (I don't really remember). As a result, you can cut a line segment into fourths, sixths, twelfths, eighteenths, etc. in a few steps. So if you need 43/108 of a line segment, for instance, that's actually doable. I think you can actually get any rational number this way. But pi, being irrational, cannot be constructed this way.

    • @nonexistence00

    ngl, not every track worked for me, but the ones that did were incredible
    The solo from Capitol Hill, _The Great Dictator,_ the insanity of the last few tracks... awesome

      I’ve been trying to figure what the solo in Capitol Hill was. Can you help a fellow YT commenter out?

    • @adamdapatsfan
      @adamdapatsfan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thetoongrump9801 I believe all of the solos there are the original ones from _Beverly Hills_ by Weezer, which is the instrumental for the whole track. Maybe Jazz played with 'em a bit though, I'm not sure.
