    Wow! You are such a good mom to let them have such an enriched life. When you were talking about putting in an aviary I think you were considering the far corner of your yard? Because of safety issues and getting to them quickly, maybe build one fairly close to your door? Just a thought😊

      It's not good to encourage nest building since it can cause aggression, egg laying & other issues but it keeps them busy

    They’re so cute. I’d love to place an outdoor aviary for my babies. I hope you’re able to get one for your flock. I have a chronic egg layer so unfortunately I have to make sure she doesn’t have any materials for a nest. I think clipping helps keep them safe, all of mine are fully flighted right now but I have had to clip in the past. Mainly to avoid Injuries. My Sammy (female) mocks the sound of our alarm clock, it makes me crazy. It’s so cute hearing Ready ready lol I have a talker and I get so much joy out of hearing him talk and say new things. Great video, thank you for sharing 😊

      Thank you so much for the kind words. And yes I worry about the females egg laying. But it's so hard to take away something they love & keeps them busy.
      We have the back balcony enclosed now, but theyre still afraid to go out there & seem to hide in the shade rather than sit in the warm sun.
      I'd love to hear more about your journey, I've only had quakers for a year so I have alot to learn.

      @@neatnancy8824 it’s been a wild ride lol. Especially when Sammy (blue female Quaker) and Wasabi (green male Quaker) became sexually mature. I got bit a lot, sometimes in the face. Tilly (turquoise opaline male Quaker) and Ash (Opaline grey male Quaker) are coming up on their 2nd birthdays and I’m really hoping they don’t get as bad. My female has currently laid 13 (infertile) eggs in the last month. I was getting worried so I had to make a lot of adjustments to curb her behaviors. She’s finally stopped, thank God. So for now everyone is calm and happy. Still lots of screaming lol but calmer nonetheless. Thank you for replying 😊

      @@daniellemotherof2 wow. So they bonded to each other? That's great, I'd love for any of mine to bond rather than constantly screaming or fighting for my attention. Though I've never experienced aggression towards me so may regret that. Also egg laying must be scary too.

    • @daniellemotherof2
      @daniellemotherof2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@neatnancy8824 for now Wasabi and Ash are bonded but Tilly wants to bond with Ash so they’re still fighting but thankfully it’s calmed down. Sammy gets very aggressive over her eggs and cage so that’s been fun. I wasn’t worried at first because last time she only laid 6 which they all broke so she stopped. Then she laid 5 and sat on them till she was over it. Everything stopped after until this summer. When she got past 7 I started to worry but when she got the 12 and 13 I got really worried. Thankfully for now she’s stopped, I hope.

      We.often add leafy paperbark branches to their cages & play areas, they like to break apart the twigs. Battle brush is good too but not as popular.

    Nancy, I never gave Xena any nesting material. I have a ladder that I put on top of her cage, and had this bell hanging from it. She would start rubbing on it and going back and forth. After a few days, she would stop and start ringing the bell. So I guess she had bonded with the bell.? Besides bonding with me. If I do get another bird, I’ve been considering getting 2. I wouldn’t mind rescuing Quaker Parrots. I’m in San Antonio, Texas. And have no idea how to contact any local rescue services. Any thoughts.?🤔

      @@neatnancy8824 That’s a great idea, I hadn’t considered that Nancy. Been watching more of your videos too. Believe it or not, I still have some things to learn. It never occurred to me to try to train Xena to wear a harness. I know the Bigger Parrots do like the Cockatoo, Etc…Never crossed my mind for Quakers. The only thing that I would be concerned about getting Birds that nobody wants is can they share a cage, and of course come out as well. Also If they have any behavioral problems. Not sure If I could help, I also have 2 dogs that I spend my time with as well. Still, It’s a lot to consider that’s for sure.

    Why encourage them to nest

  • @DuzzyDobbin
    @DuzzyDobbin 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you give them a nest box each they’ll built the nest in the box and won’t need as many sticks. In the link is what my 8 or 9 pairs breed in…. parrotsupplies.com.au/products/nestboxquaker

      I don't really want to encourage hormonal behaviour.
      In an older video you see Skye found a dark place & laid her first eggs EVER within a few days & stopped when I removed it.
      I really don't agree with breeding. They don't deserve to be trapped in our homes.
      Also there's thousands of birds that already need a home.
      Please focus on helping them instead of adding to the problem by breeding.
      All my birds & others on my channel were all abandoned.
      I have enough trouble caring for them all, I can't take any more unwanted birds.
