Toyota showed GM that using a lot a floor space is a bad idea, not a good one. The factory where the Toyota Production System was showcased is now the Tesla car factory, but ironically, in this video Tesla is bragging about how much floor space they are using to build batteries. I recommend they employ kanban to reduce waste, make the physical footprint of their production facilities smaller, cut costs, and increase quality. They should forget about being the biggest factory in the world. Of course, most of the floor space is occupied by Panasonic, one of the most efficient manufacturers of electronic equipment is the world. Maybe the reason the factory is only 30% finished is that they don't need more floor space.
