  • Let's take a look inside the building and construction of Elon Musk and Tesla's first Gigafactory, Gigafactory 1 in Nevada, also known as Giga Nevada. Elon Musk and Tesla are relying on their massive Gigafactories to bring about the electric car revolution. Tesla has three operational Gigafactories; Gigafactory 1 in Nevada, Gigafactory 2 in Buffalo, New York and Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai.
    The construction of the Tesla Gigafactory 1 started in 2014. Built in Nevada, the first Gigafactory is the production facility for electric motors and battery packs of the Tesla Model 3. It is also used for the production of Tesla's storage products, Powerwall and Powerpack.
    Nevada Gigafactory features many autonomous robots that are used for transportation and heavy lifting of parts. Some parts of this massive factory are up to 90% automated. Gigafactory 1 expansion will make it the world's largest building in terms of footprint and the second largest in terms of volume. When completed, the Gigafactory 1 solar roof will be the largest rooftop solar array in the world. Every time someone visits this gigantic facility, they are mind blown by the scale of operation. Gigafactory 1 is still expanding with every passing day and by the time it is completed it will spread on a huge area of 5.3 million square feet. Tesla plans to apply the systems and processes established in this pioneer factory to other Gigafactories.
    This video gives you an inside look into the working of Gigafactory 1, the technologies used in this factory, and its environmental impact. The video also highlights what Tesla and Nevada government have done to make sure that this enormous production facility is a success. Make sure to subscribe to the channel to continue watching such informative videos regularly. Thank you.

    Great video. Are there many solar panels on Giga Reno now or is this for the future? Same question for Shanghai and Berlin (when I see their roofs they aren't covered with many??

    • @trailblazedHQ

      There are quite a few solar panels on Giga Nevada already, however, Tesla plans on installing more over time in order to meet its goal to make the factory run entirely on sustainable, renewable energy sources. When completed, it is expected to be the largest rooftop solar setup in the world. It's still not clear if Giga Texas, Shanghai or Berlin will have any solar rooftop panels.

      @@trailblazedHQ it’s actually a pretty quick process. I go to the Panasonic side of the building. The rolls are in these 2 big boxes. I park, unbutton everything, remove the side panels of the truck, and they come pick the box‘s up with this big forklift. Then I get 2 returned and leave. The whole process takes about an hour. Then I take them back to the shop in Weirton where we process them.

    Tesla motors will eventually blow most other car manufacturers out of the water. One possible issue would be them dictating how cars function in the long run. Will automated electric cars not allow human drivers at some point?

    Building a factory piecemeal would seem contrary to “getting things done in Nevada.
    However, it signals to me that Elon is expecting battery production lines to change and rather than revamping the old line, he has left space for the new line. What do you think?
    Why did Elon choose a flat roof rather than sawtooth? Gigafactory Navada makes sense but at 53°N, Gigafactory Berlin the sawtooth factory would be cheaper and generate more solar power.

    • @trailblazedHQ
      @trailblazedHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think building the factory piecemeal allows Tesla significant optionality moving forward on how to use the excess space. Instead of re-permitting, re-excavating in the future, they can simply fill the space they've already built. It's certainly an interesting concept ... and I think you're right about Elon expecting battery production lines to change. If we know anything about him, it's that he's thinking 5-10 years ahead of the rest of us. Thanks for watching!
