Eric is doing a great service to the lifting community and the world in general. One thing I really appreciate is the words Eric chooses to use, how he uses them and just the way he's getting his messages through - this is something most people (in the fitness industry and in general) just don't pay enough attention to. Well done Eric!

So much better than Mike Israetel who curses every 5 seconds and has a superiority complex.

@@Pizzalover22-um1vwthere’s no need to put someone down when praising someone else it’s unnecessary and takes away from the overall message. Some appreciate levity others want it straightforward it doesn’t have to be some kind of competition

I love the nuanced advice. while it's easier for someone to just say "15%", that generalized, arbitrary kind of advice is unhelpful in the long run. thank you for giving advice that can empower us to take control of our fitness journey.

THIS here is solid advice and so on point and practical from a psychological, emotional and physiological perspective. Building habits and a lifestyle first and just getting used to the process of hitting the gym, tracking calories, macros, weight and making informed choices about sources of protein, carbs and fats and adding in steps etc is GOLDEN advice. I've watched a lot of TH-cam fitness content and consider myself something of an expert....and I think you should be a trainer or get into bodybuilding bro, you'd go far. 😁

Here's my admission. Bulking is what I do when getting lazy with nutrition. Quickly turns in to a "dirty" bulk. Next thing you know it's fat city, which gets followed with a starvation cut. Did that for years before I found, for me, maintenance is a better goal and to achieve. Again, for me.

yeah same for me. I know that if I started bulking I would let myself slide way too easily and often.

I know it sounds dumb but I find dirty bulk-->hard cut easier to stick to. Eat what I want as long as I meet the protein and then lock in for a month or two to reset the fat. Having to restrict eating but only losing a pound a week would drive me mad.

What are your recommendations on minicuting?
Right now I am in the midst of a minicut with the max kcal deficit recommended (~1000kcal), so I only eat about 2100kcal/day while my bulking is about 3500kcal (might go lower next time since it might have been a bit higher than necessary)

After years in the gym I am still skinny fat. I would really benefit a Bulk and as soon as I start eating more I really gain a hge amount of strength. But bulking is so hard for me. I'm 84kg at 185cm, still with no visible Abs and just a little bit of muscles (33cm Arms with a pump) . Bulking is so incredibly hard for me. Just doing 2500 Kalories per day leave me sticking my head over the toilette in the evening. It feels like a have to push food down my throat with the fork even at this "low" of a surplus. Then I stop bulking, eating nothing for days and loosing everything I gained over the weeks of bulking. I try bulking again next week when my stomache healed from the last bulk hoping one day I will gain a few grams of muscle one day

Rather timely for me, I am obese and have been following a lifting 4x a week plan since February. I have seen some muscle growth but not as much as I know I potentially could be putting on.
Calculated my daily calories and concluded lack of gains was likely due to regularly being 700 cal under my estimated TDEE. Have bumped the calories up to just over TDEE and increased protein intake and hoping I'll see improvement.
