Big transformer is evolving.... I see individual toes on this lizard man. They got something right for sure

Sadly not as solid as the original release. It hasn’t been that long ago that I was able to hold a vintage copy in hand and the reproductions are absolutely poor in quality.

I know this is late, but I just found this thing at an Ollie’s Discount Store and I have to make this clear. NOT RECOMMENDED! I have had this when I was a kid, lost it during a move, but there is a retro shop at a local flea mall where I was able to find a few and hold them in hand. I regret not buying one of them, but the shop wasn’t the kind that accepted card and I didn’t have any money on hand and the ATM there I think was down. Anyway; I just picked up this figure and it’s certainly just made for display and not for play. Not recommended for kids and even adults who grew up with them and still have them and/ or remember well enough what they were like and would like to have them again for occasionally fiddling around with will find the toy is made up of extremely cheap material. The original Beast War toys may have largely relied on ball joints and tabs, but they were still largely superior and there wasn’t to big of an issue with accessing weapons. One flaw would be that there were some weapons on figures like Armadillo that could easily be lost due to a lack of friction with their pegs. But I must repeat that unless you plan to leave them in the package; these reproductions are not ideal.
Even the newer figures like the Power of the Primes Optimal Optimus, War for Cybertron Maximal’s and Predacon’s, and Legacy Beast War toys; these lack the heft and durability the early ones had. I wouldn’t even hold my breath for solid Transmetal reproductions with gold plastic. So far; I think the only Transmetal styled mainline figures out are the PotP/ Throne of Primes Optimal Optimus and Legacy Transmetal 2 Megatron. If you have to get a retro styled Beast Wars toy; it is recommended to check your local retro toy store, antique shop, flea mall, etc. And best to leave unopened vintage unopened if you manage to find those. There’s enough out there, especially on eBay, that you shouldn’t need to open them up. That’s the stark difference between the quality of a ‘GOOD’ solid figure and one made from cheap material. It is a decent remake. But it makes me so angry with how cheap Hasbro and TakaraTomy are being. They wasted so much money on poor quality of these. And it has even been, I don’t know how long now, that each and every Ollie’s store I have been to is more than just fully stocked up on Terrorsaur! And that one use to be a fan favorite being the CGI animated Beast Wars series equivalent of Starscream. It is best to avoid any first generation reproductions of Beast Wars toys and best to avoid the first Generation Transformers toy reproductions. I haven’t seen the reproductions of Beast Wars in Walmart, but I have seen reproductions of toys like the original Starscream mold. They had replaced pieces with some kind of rubberized plastic I don’t remember it and the G2 remake with a Sound Effects box had. But if both of those did have the rubberized plastic, at least for the nosecones, they were as cheap! I purchased a G1 reproduction Starscream on clearance. Glad I didn’t pay the full original retail price Walmart had on it. Hasbro and TakaraTomy can’t even give away most of these; nor can Walmart or any other retail store that stocks up on a lot of these. It’s just that bad.. And of course Ollie’s also had a ton of left over mass produced Rise of Beasts figures. Like the Optimus Primal that transformes into a gun. It’s time people and companies began protesting against Hasbro and TakaraTomy over these issue’s rather than praising them. Especially when we all know full well the companies can do so much better.
Yes the original releases had problems, but these new ones do NOT improve! These were just mass produced to prey on the nostalgia feel. I would watch the dates on the figures and be mindful when shopping for vintage, if seeking vintage, you avoid mixing the true good quality originals with the reproductions. Even the Iguanus that transforms into a motorbike from Legacy would be a better choice. I hate hating on this; especially since I truly enjoyed having this. It’s just to painful the way something that had a very sentimental value being trampled on..

I feel your pain! I’m sorry this figure let you down so much. I had no prior experience with Iguanus so I didn’t care for it but it didn’t bother me quite as much as it did you. Hopefully Hasbro & Takara can learn from how poorly these sold.
