I am with the majority of others. Seal this one up and save it. Do a series on building one. You will never replace what you have now. Make your accountant happy and build a super racer. I was ten years before you in falling in love with these things. Broke my collar bone on one one at age 12 and still loved it. Awesome machine you have.

    Option 1. No question.
Getting a second RM to ride/build would CLEARLY be the most sensible. From a viewer standpoint, building a race bike from a cheap clapped one is just as/more entertaining anyways. I hope your mind isn't already made up and this whole poll isn't just rhetorical...

Option 2 most definitely. Send it. The only reason these machines illicit the imaginative muse in each of us is because we all connect with the memory of riding one. No one has ever experienced that fully simply by looking at one. In order to live life to our maximum potential, we must actually live it. And the same is true for that machine.

  • @yglnvbrs
    @yglnvbrs 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +24

Just race used rm250 and keep the timecapsule as a timecapsule. Also would be cool to see how you can restore the rm250 and visually compare it to a time capsule like that.

  • @nathanbrown156
    @nathanbrown156 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    Option 1
It’s survived this long and they are only new once! There’s a million other 2006 RM250’s out there that aren’t as special as this one that you could do the same thing with. Even a meticulously restored one would do the job if you felt the need to ride something completely stock and original.
The value isn’t at all the concern for me as these bikes are never going to pull huge money like a classic car.
I personally wouldn’t want the responsibility of owning something I didn’t feel like I could ride so I simply wouldn’t buy it unless I had a mansion full of bikes already and I wanted to display it.
You’re the new custodian of this unicorn. Treat her with respect 🙏

I’ve been in this situation. After 3-4 years it became almost annoying to own, as I’m not a big fan of trailer queens. My advice it to remove and replace, all of the plastic, the handlebars, throttle (saving original grip), seat, pipe/silencer and footpegs. Maybe even the side covers on the case.
Fire up your new UFO plastic, Renthal, FMF racer and have some fun. 20 + years from now when you feel like you might not be running racing it. You can always give the bike a resto and put all the original parts back on. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the feeling that it’s STILL a brand new bike.

Option 1. In the meantime try to find and store the spares needed to maintain it for a few years at least. And once you find yourself old enough to conclude on the last and final bike of your motocross life unpack it and ride with style and joy. Highly likely you will ride it calm and polite so the bike will last long.

First of all you have found a needle in a haystack. Like you I watched Pichon race these RM250’s like a demon possessed, winning back to back MXGP 250 Championships. So for that reason I own an 2002 RM250. Hands down the best motocross bike I have ever owned.
All that said and not knowing what you paid for it, I’d keep it as an investment and find a used RM250 to restore and race.

  • @mariodejesus9523

That is a piece of history, I would rather find a used one and rebuild that to good as new mechanically then ride one and keep the other for history's sake as is. I also don't like bikes just as show pieces but I think it is worth it keeping it as new, if it were a rebuilt/restored bike I would say send it because you could always just fix it up again but never been used is a different ballgame

Build it out in stages and document the steps for us. Step 1: Stock, step 2: updated with only suspension and cockpit fittings to personalize it for you. Step 3: Mild upgrades like a pipe, clutch and mild porting. Step 4: All-in with a 300 kit. Do you lap time tests during each phase and compare them to a modern 4T 250 and 450!

Clear plastic over the frame rails. Only ride on perfect loam tracks or drier, never ride this baby in the mud. Ride it but ride sparingly, you have other bikes. You have all of the original high wear stuff in a box for some day.

999lazer is an entertainment channel. You need to factor in the entertain appeal of racing a mint 2006 bike into the financial equation.
I'd personally love to see how well Shawn can do on that machine. The 3rd option, buying a used 2006 RM250, wouldn't be very interesting unless you brought everything back to factory specifications, and that wouldn't be cheap either; if even possible.

My favorite Suzuki 250 2 stroke is the RH72. I saw it in action (RN72) at Puyallup in 1971, under Joel Robert, Sylvain Geboers, and Roger DeCoster. Absolutely nothing has ever topped this particular race: the Suzuki trio not only won the race, but absolutely embarrassed the rest of the manufacturers and riders. BTW: every bike is a rider. Use it; you'll love it.

I have an Immaculate '03...if I had this 06 I would keep it pristine and buy a used one to build and ride.

its a difficult call, but i'd love to see it do what it was made for... but then again it'll never be new again.

Dont ride that "Pastrana"! Put it on U livingroom! Thing of beauty! I had that last model 2007 or 08🤔 back in the days. Loved that thing! Transmission only exploded at 120h mark😅.

Man! How i understand you! Preserve that beauty. Option 1. I love riding mine, but in that condition, it's difficult to make a choice.

The bike has never been ridden, it would be hard to ride it for me, but I probably have to. I would take all the stock plastic off and replace with some aftermarket stuff, keep all of the original stuff in a box.

Ride it. I have the biggest grin inside myself that you tracked down your dream, if I could find a crate 2003 KX250 I would sell my 450 in a heartbeat and even throw cash on top. But not to cherish, to relive the memories that I let slip by when I sold mine. My first big bike. Never knew how much it would impact me even years later.

Don't ride it or start it !!!
Option 1 by far, ride a used bike !

Option 2 ! Braaaap... Put some custom parts on it, too! And you can also go to USA next year to race the World Two-stroke Championship at Glenn Helen !

I still remember my young days, being 12 years old in 2003 and riding a Yamaha yz 85 2002 model. One day, the Suzuki shop came to the local track and had all their bikes there available for test riding. I rode the Suzuki 85 2004 model and I still remember the handling and suspension was better than my yz. Unfortunately I didn’t have a chance to ride the 250 2006 model a few years later…..

Option 2. I had the 250 PE and loved it. You need to ride it as that is what it was made for.

I understand why you like the rm 250 it is indeed a very nice bike. I had the opportunity to get one myself and even a low hour example but due to a broken leg I didn’t get to it 🥴 but congrats 🍾 you shouldn’t take her out on the track she should stand in your living room and that’s it 🤗

I would ride it. Life is short and you can't take it with you when you die. You're the one who wanted it and worked for it so enjoy it.

A new bike is only new once, at this stage its a unicorn and worth more for collection?
So option 1 would be my suggestion..
I own a low hours 07' Rm250 and a very low hours 08' Rm250.. fantastic bikes.. handle really nice.. if i lived in the UK, I would offer you the chance to buy one and race that instead of that 06'..

Option 1. And find a moto collector museum to display (on loan.) It's not about the money, it's preservation of history.

Option 1 for this beauty, instead look for another rm already broken in to restore/revive!
