I never realised just how great George’s voice was till the Freddie tribute. From then I got into his music quite a bit. Went to see his 25 tour and took 3 generations of family with me such was his appeal to all ages. The auditorium fell to absolute silence as the intro started to “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” cover, you could hear a pin drop when George’s bell like voice was not ringing out. I just stood there with tears running down my face such was that power to switch off a dancing, singing audience and deliver such a performance to wide open mouths and eyes - the missus and mother in law were quite shocked at my reaction, but it really got me. Some of his stuff that you reference like Mother’s Pride shows his astonishing vocal capability, especially the run up towards the end (all the husbands all the sons etc) - maybe one for the digital vocal analyser. I remember singing Praying for Time off that album in a karaoke bar in Majorca one year (bit different from the usual old standards belted out I thought) and it is such a brilliant song that the people moving around in the street outside just stopped to listen. I doubt many had heard it before. Bloody enormous crowd that night who kept requesting more George songs. Loads of fun.

His tone is exquisite! Soulful, smooth and sexy. Such a wonderful singer /songwriter and a wonderful human being. He is terribly missed but will never be forgotten.
With or without reverb, George Michael IS one of the best live singer/performers, EVER. It really was too bad that he was "associated" with a blend of the 80's disco/dance scene and "pop" music, because his range allowed him to perform ANY genre of music. He knocked me dead with his rendition of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", which happened to be my brother's funeral mass song. Fil, I'm sorry... I'm not a musician, so I don't always appreciate the accompaniment, but I really appreciate your analyses... it helps me gain even more appreciation for musicians and what they can do. Thanks!

Hi Fil. So happy you’re doing George AND that you’re a fan. George has always been special to me. I could never get over what a great singer he was. His voice could be powerful and smooth. His live performances were better than studio. As an entertainer he owned the stage. I just don’t know why he’s so under appreciated. I enjoyed your analysis that shows me why this performance of this particular song is so spellbinding.
I've been a fan of George Michael since 1982 and since then I have - literally - listened to his music every single day. Your analysis of his voice is the very (very very) best I've ever heard! I truly enjoyed every second your video! You're very knowledgeable and eloquent which makes your appreciation of this artist deeply profound. Keep up the great work! Ps. I hope you'll do another video on George sometime in the future. 🤞😄 Cheers!
I love him. I cried a lot when he passed away and since then I really cannot listen to touching songs like this. I really believe there are no singers and songwriters like him around. He IS unique. Thanks for this tribute to his art.
As many others I was a huge fan of George Michael. I cried with him , dance with him, I grow up with him. He was/is a truly Icon, thank God I was so lucky to live in his era. He was/is amazingly talented. Thank you again Fil for your analysis. I love your pronunciation. Greetings from Buenos Aires...!
I watch you instead of the artist as seeing your smile of appreciation is so sweet. Your comments about emotional connection was really interesting. I felt that when George sang he held the soul of every listener in his hand. Such power! But never abused. This was so strong at the performance of Someone to Love with Queen. Even years later seeing that video is heart stopping with the intensity of his connection with the audience. I would like your comments on his performance of the Long and Winding Road at the Linda McCartney memorial as the song sems higher than George normally sings.
Thanks for analyzing the great George. From the moment MTV played "Wake me up..." I was in love with this beautiful man...and lucky enough to see him live once. His voice was like silk and cashmere...will forever be my fav. And to me, his Freddie tribute was the single best performance of anyone at any time, especially knowing the back story. Rest George, you will forever be missed and loved...
I am a great fan of George Michael and always will be! Gifted with such a beautiful voice he was a talent beyond belief! So sadly missed! Excellent Fil! Cheers Mario!😀👌🤘
So impressed Fil that you have taken such an in-depth interest at such a young age. You are such an incredibly talented music analysts and have definitely have given credit where credit is due when it comes to such a magically gifted singer, songwriter and producer as the awesome George Micheal. I have loved and followed George from a very young age and to have such a great talent as he was to leave us at such a young age is in itself, very unfortunate for his loyal fans of the music he created. As Andrew Ridgeley said in his tribute to George during the Brit Awards 2017, “A Supernova in a Ferment of Shining Stars” was a very emotional but fitting tribute to such a great musician as George Micheal. Thank you Fil and Wings Of Pegasus for your brilliant look and analysis into such a great artist and my very favorited voice of all time as George Micheal. ❤️
Incredibly talented artist, and his talent wasn't fully evident until he left Wham! even though I liked some of their stuff. Very sad that perhaps the 2 best pop singers of the last 40 years, George Michael and Whitney Houston, are both gone now...
Very much appreciate your tribute to Mr George and your obvious admiration for him as a musician, singer, songwriter and composer/arranger. He was a HUGE musical talent who ALWAYS strove to exceed expectations in recordings and in live performances, the consummate professional and a true British Gent. He was hounded by a few too many scandals/embarrassments, but he handled them as well as anyone could, given the media frenzy in what could have been fatal blows to his career. The humiliation must have hurt him, being the fodder of late night comedy. But he answered inquiries straight on, and with the fun/funky “Let’s Go Outside.” Creatively, With a little wink and a big willingness to laugh at his misdeeds, but not apologize. George Michael started out as a teen pop star churning out light, fun perfect- for- MTV fare; who knew he would throw off the marketing and music video productions, go back to the music, grow so immensely as an artist, and write songs that meant something to him and were deeply emotional and personal. in his “Older” songs he shares his sorrow, and loss of probably the love of his life taken away by AIDS. Everything about his music coalesces, deepens, matures. He had long since achieved superstar success; he’s making music now for himself. Beautifully. And that performance is quintessential George Michael. technically, he could not be better AND he is totally connected to himself in the moment, to his emotions, as he sings-that mind/ heart synchrony, the human being as a pitch perfect instrument. “I can’t make you Love me,” is one of the most beautifully hauntingly saddest and wisest songs about the human condition in modern music. Abd Mr Michael carries it for us in the saddest most beautiful and loving way to the last note. Delivers it to us As a gift and as his truth. Yes, Mr. Michael carries a lot of Loss and pain with him, and like Billie Holiday or Judy Garland, He can access it easily, resonating with it and sending it our way. He wants you to connect with it. He feels less alone when we open our hearts and let him in. Artists truly give themselves to us and it’s rare. George Michael was medically very fragile at the end of his young life of hard living. He feared aging; many insecurities returned for him related to how he felt about being an ethnic person in Britain, his “look.” . Sadly, tho not isolated, he wasn’t partnered. He died alone in his home on a Christmas morning. God Bless and RIP. You gave so much of yourself and enriched us. It’s tragic when one cannot find a way to adjust to a different life phase. I think he was a lost soul at the end. RIP Sir George.
I agree with much of your comment, but ‘an ethnic person in Britain’? George was half Greek Cypriot and his mother was English. Greece and Cyprus are in Europe! George referred to himself as white - he says so jokingly when singing a cover on his Symphonica live album when he jokes “it’s too much to expect a white man to sing it like Nina”. Sadly George seemed to have some hangups in life (don’t we all?), but I don’t think being half Greek was one of them.
I’m a huge George Michael fan since the 80s and would like to thank you for appreciating that George was a phenomenal singer songwriter and giving us a professional insight into his career, I’ve seen a few other people on TH-cam do this without the knowledge you have thank you 😊
George’s live performances ‘knock me off my feet.” Simply, Beautiful. Raw, sincere emotions in his music and performances. His lyrics capture me in my deepest, secret places.
Thank you so much for your analysis of his voice. His voice is like no other male singer. Others can sing and sing well, but George's voice takes you along on an emotional journey. His version of this song is such a great example. You feel that lyric down in your soul and it's almost a dream like connection. If you know anything about George, you know he was a perfectionist in EVERYTHING he did. His singing included. I have listened to his live performances for over 30 years and never once, did he take his voice somewhere he knew it would not go. Such an utter professionalism. Miss his incredible talent.
How refreshing it is to hear that honesty. It’s so true , we take so much for granted . This man was unbelievably amazing, and blessed with a phenomenal voice. His gifts far exceeded many expectations. He literally could do it all . When I listen back to it , it’s like the endless diaphragm. The way it connects with your soul. I will take your comment to heart ,and make an honest effort to hear so much more than just a song . I agree, you made an excellent point. ❤️

I had the huge pleasure of watching his PERFECT presentation on Rock in Rio II, back in 1991... We were over 100.000 fans delighted by his absolutely accurate interpretation. He was AWESOME 🤩
So true in your analyzing of his voice, the first time I Heard this it made me cry. He always sounded like it was from his heart and he felt the song. He was creative in his song writing and he knew the little things to add that made the song stand out and polished. An amazing artists and human being. 🙏👏❤️
The best version of this song and the best performance of this song, IMO. George is one of my favorite singers, he was a natural talent, that bloody voice!
I’m so glad that you did this on George Michael. His arrangements were absolutely brilliant. His voice was smooth as liquid gold. You really hit the nail on the head! George told his life stories in his songs, which made us all so close to him emotionally. His voice was crystal clear. He could go from a breathy whisper to a powerhouse dynamic. What a voice! George had it all. The voice, beautiful personality, kindness, generosity, and killer looks. Miss him so much💜♥️xx
One of the greatest live singers ever to come out of Britain. His live performance of 'Different Corner' on the Parkinson Show was an absolute tour de force.
Thanks for the in depth analysis on George's voice. His voice and songwriting, as you said, was on a whole other level. What a talent....what a loss....
Phil, just tuning into your Channel for the first time. I'm a massive fan of George Michael's music and song writing. He is a voice that I never grow tired of. Makes me sad that a lot of people commented about his tortured life and commented on his talent as a secondary topic..I don't really think any of us can truly know unless we knew him personally. I listened to his interviews throughout his career and he seemed like a man who loved his family and friends and was so grateful to be massively successful. Who doesn't have their ups and downs in their lives?. If every incident or event of our lives was plastered all over the newspapers an exaggerated, we would also look like we had a troubled life. That said, his rendition of a long and winding road is absolutely incredible. I remember the first time I heard it, how it brought me to tears. Perhaps you can analyze that cover?
I've been a huge admirer for many many years now. George sang from the heart, with emotion. Just pure talent... Great to hear Fil that you and your family are fans too. Mothers pride has always been one of my favorites..
Thank you for the detailed analysis , for your obviions competence , because GM was a great musician and a true example of how to sing and create musical works , a memory ! RIP George Michael ❤
In these days of Autotune George Michael had a voice of such beauty, no level of electronic tweaking was required at all. It was so pure it was perfect by itself, a rare talent indeed.
Hi Fil! What a beautiful voice...pure talent! I will always think of the song Faith when I think of George Michael....the year was 87, and I started walking five miles a day, and it was that song I remember that would get me moving fast...George helped me lose fifty pounds! lol ✌️
Really appreciate reaction by someone who actually knows music and can speak from knowledge, not just opinion. Thank you. GM wrote, produced and performed so many great songs. He was in a class by himself. And he was THE master cover artist. I really, really hope you will react to many more of his songs. You just got a new subscriber. Also, GM did say in an interview, "when all this (the physical beauty interviewers always referred to) is all gone, what will remain are the songs." And he is right on the money. No matter when someone discovers his songs, they will be blown away like GM's "lovelies" - as he calls his fans.
This performance is one of my favorites from George Michael. It is powerful and has so much emotion that transcends to the listener. Thank you Fil for this analysis.
I used to hate 'Careless Whisper', it was one of the most requested songs when I hosted a request show in Abu Dhabi. It was also the one the locals always wanted on in the KTV, mostly because of the accompanying video. However, I came to appreciate and love George Michael, a great talent.
I am 26 and I just realized how amazing George Michael was and still is. Obviously I knew George Michael, with hits like Careless Whisper, Faith and his live duet with Elton John. I also knew the hit tracks he had with Wham!. I had heard alot of George's songs through the years, but I never really listened to them. I listen to them now. In my opinion, George doesn't have a single bad song. All of his tracks connect with me on a level I haven't experienced before. George Michael has changed the way I look at music. What a fucking legend.
Thank you for bringing this beautiful arrangement to light. Yog said this was the best he's sounded, because his mum was in the audience and it took him to another level. This is one of my favorite George Michael covers. I had the privilege of going to a concert on his 25Live tour, and, besides ad-libs, if you closed your eyes, you could swear it was a studio recording. When he passed, I said God finally has His voice. Marvelous performer, song writer, and true musician. You have been loved. 🙏🏽
I so so so wish you Will make one more with George Michael and the song, Love is in need of love today ( Live ) Thanks so much for the video. I wish you All the best
It truly is a master class in vocalization and had our world been more open-minded, he would have been as big as Elvis & Michael, as he was massive Elvis level from 1984 to the early 90s. I can't believe how easy it came for him, writing Careless Whisper at 17! LOL His voice was so amazing live, saw him twice on back-to-back nights in Aug 2008, and he was stunning. GM Forever... thanks for the video, good points about the ability of him to just go to where he needed to go vocally, with no worries!
Still surprised every single night....music softening the sharp edges of life and loving watching you do what you love to do! Very interesting to learn what made George Michael so compelling, thanks!
I always loved hearing George Michael’s voice. He really did have the voice of an angel. As someone once told me, “true genius is rarely balanced.” That could not be more true with George Michael.
He is without doubt the best singer of all time. Emotionally mature, a gentle personality, with an incomparable control of his vocal register.
George Michael was a phenomenal singer, songwriter, and performer. Sadly under appreciated especially in his later years.

One of the truly great vocalists.
His vocals were so beautiful and spot on it was a sad day when the world lost him a beautiful man heartbreaking to know he is gone.
Miss you George, RIP
Such a beautiful song sung by an amazing man. RIP.. I can’t believe he’s gone!
🤞😄 Cheers!
One of the finest real 'Soul" singers with real emotion troubled life should be still with us
Favourite performer of all time, favourite song of all time, favourite performance of all time …. Just magical ✨
Wow great analysis. George Michael is extraordinary and he was such a nice guy.
I love this analysis. It explains why I’ve been a huge George Michael fan for more than 35 yrs. ❤️ He was just a one-of.
NOBODY could sing this better than George. His talent is beyond words.
George Michael was a phenomenal artist. He was one of a kind.
Thanks for the kind words!
Beautiful comments to Fil and GM! Bravo!
Incredibly talented artist, and his talent wasn't fully evident until he left Wham! even though I liked some of their stuff. Very sad that perhaps the 2 best pop singers of the last 40 years, George Michael and Whitney Houston, are both gone now...
Really, what's not to like about this?
This is a masterclass in the art of performance...dynamics, mic technique, everything.
just WOW-point on-on every note
It brings me joy to hear you talk about George. He's the Master! Nice shirt too 😎👍
LOVE your comments Fil. You are a very gifted analyst!🎉
I did not appreciate George Michael until after he passed. I feel bad about this. Such a gift. I wish he found more joy from it.
@@freespiritwithnature4384 Very nicely said and so very true. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the prior comment which I also appreciate the way you do.
Me too...I wasn't paying much attention to him while he was still alive...
I had the huge pleasure of watching his PERFECT presentation on Rock in Rio II, back in 1991...
We were over 100.000 fans delighted by his absolutely accurate interpretation.
He was AWESOME 🤩
Beautiful song. No one sang it better than George
Simply the best vocalist there has ever been in the recording era.
Very sweet to hear the respect and interest in your voice when talking about George's ability and career. Nice one, Fil ♡
One of the greatest live singers ever to come out of Britain. His live performance of 'Different Corner' on the Parkinson Show was an absolute tour de force.
That song is my all time favorite GM song. Truly beautiful. I've seen that performance (onYT) and I agree it is amazing.
Thanks for the in depth analysis on George's voice. His voice and songwriting, as you said, was on a whole other level. What a talent....what a loss....
Bless his ❤️. Honestly one of the most emotional singers who ever graced the stage! Still so sad. Thanks Fil. I’ve never seen this before!
I love the way you described his voice!
There are only a few people who ever come along who possess this talent and style. Thank you George.
Mother's Pride makes me cry every time. So beautiful.
What a wonderful analysis of George and so effusive with your praise; thank you Fil!
😭😭😭
Love George Michael!!!
I have always been so in love with George. His voice gives me chills. I could listen to him sing the phone book.
A friend of mine once said of George, “He could sing ‘Fish & chips’ and still make it a hit single” 🙂
I've been a huge admirer for many many years now. George sang from the heart, with emotion. Just pure talent... Great to hear Fil that you and your family are fans too. Mothers pride has always been one of my favorites..
He was an amazing talent. Thank you for covering him.
Just brilliant! George Michael would have been 60 years old this weekend, but, truly, his legacy will never die.
Thanks!
I just loved your analysis. I usually skip most talking in reaction videos, but I loved every. single. word of yours. ❤️
This was such a perfect show. his voice was on point... and he added some of his own flair to the held notes.... just brilliant.
I so so so wish you Will make one more with George Michael and the song, Love is in need of love today ( Live )
Thanks so much for the video.
I wish you All the best
What a beautiful voice.
That went straight to my heart. Such tender emotions. I miss George (RIP). Wonderful analysis, thanks Fil :)
Its so hard to believe he wrote;Careless Whisper when he was only 17!
His music will live on.
God Bless him. RIP George.
I doubt anyone can sing this particular song live as GM has. Oh what a voice to die for.
George's best Album is the Older. Fantastic in my opinion...👍👍👍
Agreed, Older was his best work I think.
An absolute masterpiece!
GM Forever... thanks for the video, good points about the ability of him to just go to where he needed to go vocally, with no worries!
of note, he was on tour in the USA in 2008 for the first time in 17 years. I saw the final two shows with my best friend.
I love George Michael! He has such a beautiful gentle caressing voice!!!!!❤❤❤
Still surprised every single night....music softening the sharp edges of life and loving watching you do what you love to do! Very interesting to learn what made George Michael so compelling, thanks!
his personal life and the bllody media
That George Michael unplugged performance was one unbelievable song after the next..absolutely flawless....wink...
I always loved hearing George Michael’s voice. He really did have the voice of an angel. As someone once told me, “true genius is rarely balanced.” That could not be more true with George Michael.
