I made some the same year that I made these and nobody was interested in them. I'm going to try making some laser cut ones this year that look more refined.

Great job. Thanks for sharing. And thanks for the information on costs, time to make them and the selling price. These will not be the same in my country, but nevertheless it's very useful information. Is the time you mentioned including the CNC time, or excluding?
I just don’t quite understand why you start with 8 inch wide boards, but then trim them down to 5 1/4? So what are the final dimensions of the box once you trim the boards down?
I don't start with 8" boards. They are all around 5 1/2". I trim them down to 5 1/4" so that they are all the same width. If they're all the same size it makes it easier to batch out the boxes.
Thanks for the video. Love the lesson. Wife says I have to pay for my tool before I get new ones. How much sanding do you have to do in the cuts because when I use my down cut bit on I have to do some sanding around the eyes and the nose Etc because of little fuzzies.
Would you fancy selling me a couple of 6 mm templates for the faces? I could then rough cut them out and finish with a flush trim bit ,wouldn't have to be that intricate
I'm in Ireland, 3 mm might be better as I would need to use a 1linch trim bit in the router to cut the 3/4 stock and it would be cheaper to ship them,I did 3 today ,a bit rough and ready with the jigsaw though
@@FunWithWoodworking I was wondering if you really need those tabs at all? Seems like a lot of extra work, but ive never used a CNC so don’t know. Ive never ever seen anyone else use tabs.
@@markb8954 The tabs are there to keep the pieces in place. If you don't have them there is a good chance that the pieces will get caught by the bit and fly out and possibly ruin the rest of project.
I am curious.. It seems like you covered the back slot on these boxes when showing them off with the light inside... Because the hole in the back makes it harder to see the face. Did you sell them with some sort of cover on the back or did you only do that for the video?
I do not. I found them all in Google, imported them into Easel, and ran them from there. There is a link in the description to create a free Easel account and then you should be able to export them from there.
@@FunWithWoodworking Ohh Ok. I’m still new to all that “File” stuff. Lol. But I’ll give it a shot. Thanks so much. I tried finding Free Avg Pumpkin Face. But it always directed to pay for them. Thanks Again.
I don't market to the people looking for the cheapest price. I market to the people that appreciate custom craftsmanship. On the flip side, I didn't sell a hundred of them. I sold 20 and gave the rest out as gifts.
Well everyone around here sells them with four faces cut out for 15$ not sure how I convince them to pay me 35 with just one face cut or how to to be well my box is better built like a box is a box u can only build It so hood n ya have to lap joint it plus I get it you are marketing to family n subs wheee they will pay more just to support u rather than it so much better I an they wasn’t family friends subs they see m at hobby lobby for 10$ they not give you 35 unless they know u plus my friends family are broke n expect the hook up as in free I i on shot cars n they are only willing to give me a 12 pack n buy the paint lol sight no over charging them lol
SO I know this was 2 years ago, and I'm not the safety police, but you have your pinky finger just hanging out doing nothing while you're pushing material through, stretch that pinky out over the top of your table saw fence and then grip the fence with that finger and your safety goes up 10x.
I was assuming his plans would include the faces....they don't so be aware....he has a great scam going here. Any woodworker can make the boxes from scratch. I didn't need the plans for that. There should be a warning on the web site that the faces are not include. Maybe you can tell I am a bit upset.
to bolt the eye hook faster, put 1 in to the cordless drill and use it to turn the ones in the lanterns
Thank you for the great project and for providing the details! Had a lot of fun making these with my niece and nephew
That's awesome! I hope that they enjoy them for years to come.
Great video. Thanks. I’m making something similar this year, but now I want more tools.
Use an Allen wrench in a cordless drill and screw those eye bolts in in record time.
any hints on doing this with out a CNC? Those are so darn expensive
You can cut out most of the faces using a jigsaw or scroll saw.
Excellent
Any ideas about Christmas cutouts?
I made some the same year that I made these and nobody was interested in them. I'm going to try making some laser cut ones this year that look more refined.
These are really cool, great work thanks for posting 👍
Thanks a lot!
Good project.
I would say it would be so much quicker if you used a scroll saw!!
Exactly what i was thinking . guess i will just have to see if its faster myself
Not with areal CNC machine.
Great video thanks for the information that cost and selling price it’s very helpful. Thanks again
Thank you very much! I'm glad that I could help.
What is the small green driver you use. Great video!
It is a RYOBI cordless screwdriver.
How long did it take to cut each face out thanks bill
Right around 10 minutes depending on the design.
Those are great! Thanks so much!
Do you do Christmas stuff like snowmen lanterns or Christmas tree 🎄 lanterns

Are you using 6’ or 8’ fence boards?
I use the 6' boards.
Can't believe you made that much money for 6 hours of work. They look great.
Awesome 👌 👏 👍
I think a "wingnut driver" would screw the eye hook in faster.
I love the end product.
Thanks for the video. Love the lesson. Wife says I have to pay for my tool before I get new ones. How much sanding do you have to do in the cuts because when I use my down cut bit on I have to do some sanding around the eyes and the nose Etc because of little fuzzies.
I just used some scrap 120 grit sandpaper folded in half and sanded just enough to get rid of the worst of it. Less than a minute on each face.
How much did you sell these for each?
$35 each was in the video
Muy bueno su video, hágame el favor dónde consigo las plantillas de las figuras
What kinda bit did you use?
what do you sell them for in your area?
I didn't make any this year but I have sold them for around $30 the last couple of years.
What bit and speed and feed rate did you use?
1/8" straight bit. I believe it was 35 in/min and .05 depth per pass.
Great idea, they look awesome
Thank you!

I setup tabs.

Dumb question... what is the width of the cedar pickets?
5 1/2 inches.

@@jamesbarlowjr.3762 Oops, they must have changed it. I haven't read the fine print in a while. Thanks for checking it out.
Do the plans you sell on your website come with the pumpkin faces?
They do not but I found all of them in Google images using the search term "pumpkin face template".
These are awesome!!🎃
Cool
can i use inch brad nails?
1 inch*
I used 1 1/4" but 1" should be fine as long as you are using wood glue.
How wide are your pickets 5 1/2 or 6
They start out at 5 1/2"
What size bit are you using? 1/16 or 1/8?
1/8" because it has a black ring at the top of the bit. The 1/16" has a light green ring at the top.
Great work ,man I wish I had a CNC machine
It has been a very useful tool for sure.
Just use a scroll saw.
👍

awesome, great project for diy'er.... if you have $3,000 dollars for a cnc
All of those faces can also be cut out with a jig saw. Thanks for watching!

About tripled your money at a 40.00 wage for 6 hours. That isn't bad for a day of work.
Wow. A lot of (unfamiliar) tools…
