My father is extremely racist towards every single person that’s not black. One time he was being extremely rude and doing the eye thing that people do to mock Asians with monolid eyes. I told him to never do that again and what he said was so stupid that I felt embarrassed. He said “I can’t be racist to Asians because they’re smarter than us.” What the actual fuck! That made no sense whatsoever.

The funny (or sad) thing is that he in self-internalizing the racist truth that he believe in, that Asians are more INTELLIGENT and therefore SUPERIOR to Black people in that sense, so he feels it's ok to stoop low and make fun of them, because they wouldn't do that in his face.
It's actually pathetic in that sense, because he is outwardly announcing to the world "HEY! I'm INFERIOR and I KNOW IT! And I'll REINFORCE THAT NOTION!"
It's such a toxic self-defeating circle, I hope he sees the irony in that, and makes him look weaker.

I’m honestly worried about the fact that there are many racist minority members but they can get away with “we’re a minority we can’t be racist”
Especially the few who openly talk about how they think all whites should die. Makes me a little concerned about my future safety as an adult if they don't get those people under control.

I'm from Mexico and people around here have started repeating this stand. It makes sense because this allows them to do the exact same things they say they hate but remain on "the good side".
It sucks because I'm in the middle of all things; If I'm hanging with actual white people they don't see me as one of them but brown people dont think of me as brown either. I'm also middle class (scalated from the bottom) so poor people call me rich but wealthy people would never call me rich...

As a South American, I always found Mexicans to be incredibly arrogant. They see themselves as superior to us, and always love calling Mexico the greatest place on Earth (despite leaving it in droves). They have this really weird and completely unearned cultural God complex and they tend to be super racist against blacks, whites, Asians, etc. Basically anyone that doesn't "look" stereotypically mestizo/criollo. The children of Mexican immigrants in US are often worse.

not for me. My parents DID feed me, house me, and provided for me in general, but my friends gave me the birds and bees talk, i taught myself how to shave, never got help with homework, never got checked to see i was keeping up with school, i more or less raised myself. Both my parents worked, but neither did full time. They just saw being a parent as one would see having a dog.

Everyone has a great point, but then I realized the entire problem that we’re talking about came to bite me in the ass: Intent.
When I said “making fun of any race,” I should have added that I was only talking about people who were serious and not the ones who are joking. However, you guys came in clutch again, because (as some of you said) it’s really hard to tell if someone is joking or not; it all comes back to miscommunication/intent. If only humans were able to show what each other meant when passing information to each other, I’m sure a lot of problems that our species are dealing with today will also be solved.
But yeah: I didn’t mean jokes, and I hate that it takes a lot to show what I mean with our current technology.

Nah making racist jokes are fine as long they are actually funny. Something like calling a black person a monkey and claiming it to be okay cuz its a joke is racism. I was in a club once and was having a hard time getting a drink, a random white lady told me she would take care of it for me and started a full blown karen fit and my friends and i went from being ignored to getting free drinks just because the bartender didnt want to deal with the white lady. Privilege exist but we can definitely work together using them

But when I was back in my country (Belgium), I was denied every job whenever the boss was muslim. Those boss would only hire fellow muslims. That's why I decided to just move to a place where I have advantages :'D

I'm a black girl and I go to a predominantly black school. I LOVE Kpop and Asian culture, I love many foreign cultures cause they're so different and cool but Kpop and many other Asian cultures stood out to me. I was basically made fun of for liking Asians, they would hold up the corners of their eyes, they'd call them all “Ching Chongs” and so much more. My brothers would even say I was adopted because my eyes “look” Asian, I'm not adopted.

In my situation its vice versa, i live in an Asian country and there are still not enough education about racism towards black people bc we don't really see them that often in this country, so when they actually see one, half of the people tend to mock their skin colors and appearance, saying the N slur or things like "m*nkey". I think that's a terminology problem. Of course black people can be racist, and I am saying this as a black person. As a matter of fact, we're even more racist between one another. However, in the context of the United States, racism usually means systemic oppression. This is something that black Americans don't have the tools to perpetrate, so seen like that, yes they can't be racist.

Saying "I am not racist" and "I can't be racist" are 2 complete seperate things. I am not a racist, I would never judge anyone on their appearance to the point that I simply ask the closest person for help. Regardless if it's a black person who I happen to find intimidating(I find some white people intimidating too, intimidation is a thing based on patterns and social expectations, not necessarily based on racism), or an asian woman in a car dealership. Or I can make a very racial based joke, and while it is a joke, some people simply take too much offense to that. Claiming you cant be racist is a claim you cannot possibly fill. I could say in a restaurant "oh that man has some amazing chicken for dinner" while pointing at a black man who obviously is having some extremely tasty looking chicken for dinner. I can bet you 100$ that someone in that restaurant will think its racist for me to say that. But if I say the exact same sentence while pointing to a white man, suddenly, not racist. This is exactly why you can never claim that you cant be racist.

I do not think the habit/instinct that we have of generalizing is ever going to go away, this has been backed by science that we do this to survive in a tribe and maintain an "in-group" bond. So in one way or another, even if it is unnoticeable/unobvious, we are all sexist, racist, etc. With that said, even though we will never be able to defeat racism and sexism, we hope to fight against the noticeable sexism, racism, etc. to at least decrease the inequality gap as much as possible.

You're also forgetting that a lot of Americans believed that the civil rights movement was also violent, and MLK was considered the most hated man in America back then. The peaceful protesters were attacked with police dogs, hosed down by firemen, and were even killed by policeman bullets. The few differences between the civil rights movement and the BLM protests is that the methods for attacking peaceful protesters are different, and we also have the benefit of hindsight. Hopefully, in a few years or decades, the BLM protests actually get credit for being largely peaceful.
Also, please don't tell me you actually believe that white conservatives get the most oppression. They fucking ran the country for FOUR YEARS, and criticizing them gets you shit on by millions of people. Don't act like they're the victims in this situation.

You know what's funny and have a lot of African American friends and Caribbean friends that are black and I've had conversations with them and some agree that is true and other say black people cannot be racist and I explained to them do you know the definition of being racist talking down to somebody because of the color with love cuz if not anybody suffering from racism would not understand how to get rid of that burden that seed of resentment and lack of forgiveness the only poisons you. For real. It's so infuriating. If you have a cell phone, you're rich. If you have a car, you're rich. If you have a roof over your head, you're rich. If you have running water, you're rich. If you have food in your fridge - if you have a fridge, you're rich. If you have a toliet, you're rich. If you have electricty, you're rich. If you have a TV, maybe two, you're rich. Yada yada yada.... compared to the rest of the world we ARE the top percent. We are that "top whatever" 'you' hate so much. It's just absurd. And that isn't even cutting the surface.

@@malorie8557 Yes and no... I mean, we're not the top percent. Two thirds of the whole world have running water. 5 billion people have a cell phone today. Sure, it still means that 30% of people don't have that stuff and that's a big number but it's not most people.
In Europe (even Eastern Europe) almost everyone has that stuff. Same in Oceania. Same in North and South Africa, and a good portion of Asia too. North America isn't any more privileged than any of these places.

@@kaoe145 This is the redpill everyone needs to take. You are very close. Racism used to be a survival instinct thousands of years ago. When humans were hunter gatherers, identifying your tribe from others was important, and race helped with that. If you chose wrong, you died. Nowadays, modern society doesn't (or at least shouldn't) need race to tell your kin from others apart. A lot of people consider racism as an absolute evil when in reality it's just a hardwired tool, like fear and anxiety. It's a tool a perfect society wouldn't need anymore.
I think seeing true racism is rare in my world. My community isn't racist, my friends aren't nor is my family. But I think racism is now subjective. People call racism if there is a magazine article critiquing someone who happens to be black, even if their race isn't spoken about. Or if a celebrity made a statement or joke that was taken out of context, people will call for them to be cancelled in the name of racism. People have forgotten what racism actually means, it is the definition of true hate towards a person only based on their skin colour, and I really think it's rare to meet someone like that. But people are pushing the boundaries wider and wider on racism and it lessens that label. So a kid is bullied at school because he is black, they call him racial slurs and only pick on him because of his skin colour, then you have a celebrity filmed singing the 'n word' during a rap song despite them loving and supporting the artist, yet people will call both examples racist. Only thing is, that kid won't get any media attention because people will only be focused on the 'racist' celebrity.
I've seen posts on twitter saying "if their were schools only for minorities the world would be a better place"

I'm white as hell, and ginger. My great grandma is straight Africa african, my grandfather is half. I cannot tell you how many times poc have told me that I have privilege, that I don't deserve certain things because I'm white. I had my first job when I was 14, and grew up with no dad.

Riddle me this, can hate also breed peace? We talk so much about the atrocities races have committed, hear the rhetoric constantly but at some point with enough time, understanding, and change in societal behaviors, the very anathema to it forms and sometimes either peacefully or very bloody. Hate begets action, action produces results and the results dictate what you'll get end the end be it positive or negative but that depends on what actions you take. Sorry for the rambling but I guess I pick at the idiom "hate begets hate" more than I realize. That and "the customer is always right". If you do retail, LIES!

@S Morgan Yeah, that used to be a sad reality. This has fortunately changed a lot and continues to develop in the right direction. Not saying that there is no racism anymore, because there definitely is, but this new cult of intersectionalism with its extreme identity politics has been the single most divisive concept since white supremacy.

I did not say that we are all equal I said that in the future we as black people should not channel the racism we receive onto other people but come together and use channel all our hurt and pain towards finding a solution.
