I had surgery in 1976, had rods put on both sides of my spine. I was 13, wore brace, did exercises in my bed, wore cast, got cast off, I'm 60 now and never had any issues. I had 5 kids, no epidural, I praise God and Dr. Asher in Kansas City.

I was misdiagnosed as Fibromyalgia for over 30 years..I went to another city, another Dr, and was diagnosed with severe scoliosis and had been in severe pain most of my life..not once did my Ortho Dr tell me, after 3 hips and a knee replacement…he sent me to a quack pain clinic, I got addicted to opiates and pain was much worse..almost died trying to detox..I needed help and my Drs failed miserably…I went and found a Pain Interventionist who would not RX opiates…4 cauterization later, and I finally have relief in my 60’s…if I had of known, I would never have worked in ICU, trauma units for over 40 year RN career..I damaged my back really badly…every year, I have to go get cauterized for pain…

My scoliosis appeared around age 12 yrs. I was first braced and then casted and had two spinal fusion surgeries using bone from the bone bank. After a couple years the fushions broke down and i was casted in a full body cast and immobile 9 months. I had 2 more surgeries during that time using bone from my hips. Needless to say this was all done in the 1950's thru 1960. None of these things corrected the progression of the scoliosis. In spite of that i managed to have and raise 4 children. However, i am in a lot of pain now especially in my hip and lower spine. My son developed scoliosis at age 14 and had a Lukie (spelling?) Rod put in his spine. He walks bent over now that he is older. I'm glad that improvements have surfaced for those who develop scoliosis in the future. I always was self conscious about my appearance.

I also have scoliosis but it was known since I was born or since I was a toddler but by the time I was in high school I had surgery with rods and pins were inserted.

They found my scoliosis at age 5 I wore multiple types of braces up until age 11 at which I then refused to wear brace my scoliosis kept on progressing obviously slowed by braces but surgery was inevitable they were hoping I could make it till 16 but I refused at 11 so my lumbar spine was fused with rods so I could grow from lower spine so considering I’m 5’8 I can’t imagine how tall I’d be. I have had 6 kids obviously without an epidural because no anesthesiologist would attempt it. But I’m 37 and just fine I do get some uncomfortableness in cold weather but I’m so used to it it doesn’t phase me

I’m 64 and mine was an S curve and they didn’t look for it when I was young. They found it at 18. 35 degrees on one and 17 on the other. Unfortunately now in 64 and have had L4, L5 and S1 fused. Then one at a time my neck from C3-T1. I’m in constant pain and my spine is now rotating.
