Hi, yes to work in Germany you must have at least A1 level and some jobs demand a higher qualification . X

It’s okay to study on line for the language and I bet Duolingo is one of the best Apps out there, I haven’t tried it yet. Most importantly is that you take your test with a Certified Company from the country you reside in. X
