Old video from 2016, but the Paiute tribe is still involved with weed nearly a decade later.

Yeah I'd love to see an update.
I love my Rez. I never left, and looking back It was a double edge sword… the lack of opportunities, and the high substance abuse was a factor, but I also spent a lot of time with elders, storytellers, singers and those who know the land and traditions…. Turning 40 this year and I understand it is my duty to champion those traditional values that guided me through those dark times.
Rez life is hard I 🫡 stay on one for 3yrs
Which tribe? . . . I'm Canadian of Korean DNA and I've lived and worked with and learned from Shushwap, Haida, Dene, Cree, and Ojibway. I've learned all of my bushcraft, hunting, tanning, fishing, miscellaneous skills from Natives! I've worked hard-labour jobs with them! I've spent time on select reservations as a guest. I want Natives to reclaim their lost lands again. Canada broken up into the original nations, I'd love to get a Native passport!

Watched this years ago and it’s crazy because I’ve been to both the dispensary and the smoke shop a few times now. I wish we could get an update but I wish the tribe nothing but the best
The remote Sauk-Suiattle Tribe in Darrington, WA opened just one retail marijuana store. One hour drive from any other! Serves mountain folk and travelers. Very successful and provides retail job training/experience.

Sadly, living off the government and selling weed. There is no future sad
@@MidnightMoses-ow1ul You misunderstood where the money comes from. It came from the smoke shop.
If the government gives them so much how come they are in poverty?
Would you really be upset at someone receiving something if that person doesn't have anything? Why? Do you think if they are treated like humans than you can't be treated like a human?
You're the type that would be made at someone that has nothing because our society gives them cheese and milk. How sad are you?
You must be really lost if you think weed has no future.
I would love an update about this
The update is the Paiute tribe built the world's biggest cannabis store in Vegas! And they knock down millions from the store.... They are doing very well! The store is called NuWu google it!❤

Truly, some of the most genuine people I’ve ever come across in Las Vegas. I’ve been able to record a video at their dispensary called Nuwu for TH-cam and they were super easy to work with and very happy with the product and every time I walk in their doors it’s like family always a hug ready for you and the super huge smile. I love the Paiute tribe and everything they stand for, Great people looking out for their community 💙 Great coverage VICE!! 👊
I love the Paiute people and they are doing GREAT with their cannabis business!
They been on this venture for thousands of years 😂😂

@@GIRTHYANDITCURVES Paiutes have used tobacco and marijuana for ceremonial purposes for thousands of years. Paiute ancestors even said there were red head giants in the USA before their ancestors as well 🤷♂️
@@Timewave-Zer0 Cannabis is not native to the Americas. Cannabis is believed to have evolved on the steppes of Central Asia, in the regions that are now Mongolia and Southern Siberia. It was introduced to Africa, and from there it spread to various regions of the world, including South America, through human migration and trade. Cannabis was introduced into the Americas by European Colonizers. Now it is said that Native Americans do have a history of smoking Cannabis, however thousands of years is incorrect. Hundreds at most, and it was in very limited quantities. Native Americans have been smoking Tabacco and Kinnikinnick for a very long time though.

I sure hope it's going to work out for them. Native American people have gotten the short end of the stick for far too long. I truly hope everything goes well for them.

Man they really need to bring back this show!!!!
Most of the tribes in Nevada are growing their own weed, and have dispensaries. Nevada tribes don't have casinos because it's not really worth it since there are casinos everywhere and slot machines everywhere, including 7-11 and grocery stores.
My tribe (I know I'm white passing but I'm over 80% indigenous) is the Reno Sparks Indian Colony. We have 2 dispensaries and 75% or more of the marijuana products we sell are Nevada tribes' products from all over Nevada. We have more businesses, than a smoke shop. We have land that we rent out to big businesses and get to keep the taxes from the sales. We have a Walmart, a Mercedes dealership, a car max, and one more dealership that's just changed and idk what it is now, and we used to have a taco bell as well, but we turned it into a dispensary. We don't get money from our businesses, as far as individuals like monthly checks, like the Southern Paiutes, but we have a lot more people compared to them, prob 1500 or so members. The problem with getting money every month is what is happening to the Southern Paiutes. They won't lower their blood quantum because if they do, many more people will be eligible to become members and that means less money for the ones that are already members. It's not about keeping the culture. Look at those kids. They are a part of the culture.
My tribe is also 1/4, but we are made up of 4 tribes, northern Paiute, Washoe and Shoshone. It used to be 1/4 of one type of the tribes I listed above. We just "lowered" it to be a mix of the above tribes blood. Because Paiutes were marrying Washoes, and Shoshones and vice versa, so kids had a mix of the blood. They could be almost half and not be a member of our tribe. Now, as long as they are 1/4, of a mix of blood, they are eligible.
You spoke on the monthly intake of southern Paiute, I knew one that got over 8k a month JUST for the fact he’s Paiute. So that wasn’t from the government, but from a cut of the collective of Paiute business income?? That would make a lot of sense.. cheers!
You are definitely not over 80% indigenous! Absolutely no way!!! What dna tests did you take? I’d wager everything I won that you aren’t 80%+ indigenous! I’m only around 40% indigenous and I am much darker skin than you and have many more Native American features than you.
@@insainecainethat’s false no one is making that money unless it one of the people on the boarding committee

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians just opened a dispensary here in NC where it’s still illegal. It just happened on 4-20 so I don’t even know how it works yet.
They are one of three federally recognized Cherokee nations, so they can do what they want and set what laws they want on their land. They accept medical cards from other states. What happens to you with your weed once you’re off tribal land though…

Ill always smoke the peace pipe! Indegenious people are the true AMERICANS! Aloha from Hawaii. Pacific islanders united.
Saying things like: *"smoke the peace pipe"*
is perpetuating racist stereotypes about Native American peoples and our diverse cultural traditions _(something generally considered offensive ... because of the way those stereotypes whitewash our tribal identities into a one-size-fits-all cartoon character; which has been weaponized against us)._
Some of the more acceptable terms would be ceremonial pipe or personal pipe, depending on style and use. 🙂

I'm so happy to see the Paiute are thriving after this decision from back in 2016
I have a lot of love. For all the bands , of the tribe.
Prohibitions in America's early history cut down MASS amounts of hemp trees all up and down the east coast, the elimination continued until no cannabis plants existed in the wild. Cannabis has traditionally been a sacrament of the Cherokee people for thousands of years
Are you stupid? There was no cannabis before Europeans came, because Cannabis is indemic plant of Afghanistan-Pakistan-India-Bangladesh-Sri Lanka(Ancient Indian Subcontinent). There was no cannabis in American continent.
I'm all the way in Kenya. I transfer peace, love, and blessings to these 2 OG tribesmen. Look at them held their ancestral land with neo and respectable methods. God bless them in my opinion Native American Indians are so bad ass, positive, and grounded.
The tribe has a dispensary just down the street from me. Pretty high prices, I only go once in a while to say hi to some friends at work
Yeah one opened a few years ago where I live. The weed is good but it’s way too expensive

@Poaf-1 Most of all of America was in the middle of nowhere at one time I don't think it's the government's Fault It seems these people Are just not industrious It seems when you give people free money Low interest loans College scholarships It takes all the drive out of them Let's not forget First bids on most all government contractors On paper, these people should be the richest. Met a guy in La Union, Philippines. He was super white in skin color. Wearing a Chicago Bulls jersey. Drinking Red Horse beer at 9am in the morning. Got to know him in the next several trips to that community and he told me that he was Native American and lived off the pension gave to him by the US Gov. His house he rented in San Fernando was cool but all he did everyday was drink until he passed out. Wanted to teach him to surf but was always to drunk to even ride a bike. Hope he is still alive, met him in 2013 and last saw him in 2022. The employees at Andok's Chicken still say he passes by. #BidayLaUnion

I grew up in Reno, Nevada...I am half native, but as a blue-eyed blonde man, they said I am not native. Check out how much Native they have as the tribe leaders... that's the problem. Both sides need to stop looking at how we look and understand the people can be all colors now.

I would like to see a new installment of this documentary, find out how the Paiute Tribe is doing now with this marijuana business. It seems like it could be a good thing, a game changer.
Dave Chapelle covered this perfectly in a standup.
Pretty sure they got a dispensary on/near strip.
Also, anyone looking for alternatives for STiiiZY & WCC, try Airo Brands Carts and Ghost. Disposables.
When it comes to 'blood quantum' I'm part Mohawk. The last person that could have qualified for tribal membership was my grandpa I think. But he considered himself white, even though it was obvious he was mixed race. He looked native, but had his German father's blue eyes. He could have walked through a res, and no one would have noticed he was mostly white unless you saw his blue eyes. My immediate neighbors are on the tribal roles. The Cherokee Nation are a lot more forgiving on the blood quantum with Alvie (and my one aunt), and the lady and her son are Navajo I think (or maybe Apache, I'm not sure). I wish I had gotten the dark skin living in Arizona, but no, all I got was the long torso, arms, spatulate teeth, and lactose intolerance. My mom and dad looked like salt and pepper shakers next to each other as my dad was pretty dark. But no, I got my red headed grandpa's skin. Thanks grandpa.
Our tribe requires 1/4 any native blood, but we do have 4 tribes that comprise our membership/reservation.
An article from three years ago says that their NuWu dispensary was generating $4,000,000 in sales a month and stated a tribal membership of 62.
Chris spotted eagle is a hell of a name
You got my vote, blessings
it's just heartbreaking to the very core to see the damage we've done to the native communities across our glorious nation. we don't deserve this sacred land. some day, the first nations people of this continent will be given their lands back and until that day, i'll be here advocating for it. until the day i die.
When was this filmed? Nevada has recreational
