  • In this video I review the dewalt DCF801 brushless 12v impact driver. I compare it to the previous model and my 18v DeWalt brushless impact driver.

I’m going to piss off all the M12 fan boys but honestly the new DeWalt 12 volt brushless impact driver and drill feel way more comfortable in my hand. The M12 lineups are so fat and uncomfortable to my hand. I will sacrifice a little torque if it allows me to use it all day with ease. The impact driver this man is reviewing is hands down the best 12 volt on the market along with its drill variant.

You’re not alone Jason, and I like and I own several of the older M12 tools. The newer fuel drills and impacts feel as if they added to the girth of the handle? And those dammed triggers of Milwaukee! Use one long enough and you will know. The bottom part of the trigger will put pressure on your finger, and of course, on the fuel models, mostly the M18, when you fully depress the trigger, your finger gets roughed up and/or pinched by that sharp plastic seam/ ridge. Others have commented on this.

I can’t believe the 12V sink a 6” 1/4 thread sleeper screw in at all, let alone at that speed. Impressive.

Thanks Ian. I’m not sure what it is about the Milwaukee handles they just don’t feel right. They do produce some powerful tools though.

Great review. i just wish you had shown its capabilities as far as drilling into brick and masonry like you did with the 18v previously.

I enjoyed your review, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the DeWalt 12v impact driver. It was a tricky call for me between the Bosch & DeWalt 12v Impact drivers, but I decided to go with Bosch in the end as there were some slightly better deals on the Bosch 12v platform tools when I made my purchase, although I recently purchased the DeWalt 7485 table saw which is a brilliant piece of kit. Stay safe!

Thanks Richard I imagine the Bosch is a good tool they don’t seem to make bad ones! Does it have a bit holder or belt clip though? My 12v Bosch doesn’t and it annoys the hell out of me!

Unfortunately it doesn’t have a belt clip. Only the 18v Bosch Drills have the belt clip.

Great video, I’m just wondering why anyone would not just go full in 18v? I love the 18 v platform.

The lightness and compact size comes in very handy for the 12v range. The tools are cheaper too.

I have the 24V Kobalt Xtr and it works great is very powerful. But a bit heavy when bent over at 90 degree angle putting screws above your head.Got the Extreme and now using both at work.

Hey have you tried the new DeWalt DCD803 yet? It's really great. I'll be replacing my Bosch Flexiclick with it.

I have seen it but can’t really justify the purchase at present. I do like the look of the Dewalt 12v SDS drill though. 👍🏼

Cheers Mate from across the Pond, where we seem to be still having a bit of a Revolution, only it’s between ourselves! Sad sad anyhow, I digress. Great insight and review. Late to the comments as I just discovered your channel, and Subscribed, and just picked up this impact! Good little impact for sure. Your review would have been a ‘10,’ had you featured the precision drive mode. 🤔😉 It really works, for screws under 40-50 mm, or so. DeWalt seems to still have an issue with the collets having a lot of play in them. Mine runs true, but if you insert a hex shank drill bit, or long driver bit, you can wobble it back and forth. Older impacts didn’t suffer this?
Anyways, cheers, and stay safe and Healthy! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😁✌🏻🇬🇧🇺🇸

Thanks for your comments. Yeah I think I did mention precision drive but didn’t feature it. I haven’t really used it much but guess it would be handy for small fixtures. 👍🏼

The 12v stuff is much dearer than 18v. Got an 18v combi drill for 100 quid. 12v is more like 160.😕

Funny you say that because Milwaukee has the shittiest collars I have ever seen on pro grade tools. The batteries also are sloppy and don’t fit as tight as Makita or DeWalt. Did you attempt to take the tool back and exchange? It is possible you got a faulty one. I had a M18 Gen 2 drill that shitted out in 4 days and all I was doing was building a deck. Took it back and got the same drill and it runs hard till this day. There is a limit to 12 volt tools even if they can drive a 3/8 inch diameter lag bolt that’s 4 inches long, doesn’t mean you need to do it all the time. This DeWalt 12 volt is perfectly capable of driving tek screws that are 4 to 6 inches long all day without any issues. I can’t even use a spade drill bit half the time in my M18 fuel Gen 2 impact driver because the collar is pure shit and the bit comes out while pulling away from the hole once you break through. Do I think Milwaukee tools are shit? Absolutely with their impact drivers. I don’t care if it takes me 3 seconds longer to drill a hole. Putting bits back in the collar is complete down time. I personally think Makita makes the best 18 volt impact on the market pending on which model number. If you get your hands on a Makita that is made in Japan you will throw away all of your other 18 volt impacts.
