    I do like that makita made sub compact tools on 18v platform and others started making the same, it really makes a lot of sense, that you can have smaller and lighter tools like 12v but without any other batteries still 18v, it's awesome,

    My first cordless drill and impact set was the brushed dewalt 12v. I got it before 18v or just as 18v came out. I was working at a bmw dealership where everyone had makita. They were all saying why did you get dewalt thats home owner brand. Then when they picked them up and tested them they were very impressed, especially with how comfortable they were because of the ergonomics in the handle, everything else out at the time was pretty much all just straight bulky handles. I used it for a few years before i got into 18v brushless ridgid. A week or so ago i needed to get into a smaller space so picked up the dewalt set. I was making floating shelves with threaded rod into studs, then drilled through stair treads. I ended up using the 12v dewalt set for most of the project because it was so much smaller, lighter, and plenty of power. Couldnt believe the batteries were all still charged and worked after not being used for years. Awesome little set. Was shocked at the power it has for an old brushed 12v set. The dcf815 impact and dcd710 drill.

      Had my brushed set since 2015, work well, super comfortable. Batteries also hold a charge after sitting for years too, recently added some new ones with fuel gauges. Cant believe how affordable the new brushless models are on sale too with extra batteries/charger.

      Agreed. My first cordless set was the brushed 12v dewalt. I still have it. Still works great. Picked them up for the first time ina many years a couple weeks ago since i got the 18v ridgid set i havent been using the dewalt, but i needed something smaller so dug the dewalt set out, i was pretty impressed with the power it has. Especially for a little brushed 12v set. The dcf815 impact and dcd710 drill. I ended up using them for a majority of the project because they're so much smaller and lighter and had plenty of power. There was a couple things i used the 18v for because it made it faster then the 12v but it probably could have completed the task, just didnt want to work them too hard if i didnt have

    Tip: The 12v batteries (10.8) are handy to have around for other uses. I used mine last week to run my 12v air mattress pump to inflate my mattress in my tent. You can use them to test light bulbs, to keep settings on radio and prevent computer from resetting in car when you pull the battery. Etc, etc ..
    Just dont short them out, or drain them dead.

      I keep telling my brother that. He does hvac and uses the 18v ridgid platform. The subcompact set he has is pretty small and fits into a lot of tight places, but the battery is just too bulky. I keep telling him to get a 12v set. Its going to do 95+% of the stuff hes going to need it do and its going to be so much lighter, especially having his hands over his head all day or reaching out when on a ladder. I have a decent amount of the 18v ridgid tools as well, recently i dug out my old dewalt brushed 12v set and bought a few m12 tools. I use the 12v stuff more often now.

    • @PhillyFixed
      @PhillyFixed  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First thing to note is that since this video was published, DeWalt released the DCF840 at Lowe's and the DCF850 atomic at Home Depot which are both much, much better than this version of the Atomic. I have a couple vids on those.
      As far as these two, the Xtreme is lighter and more compact and while the Atomic was a bit faster, I don't think the power difference makes up for it. Now, my first choice among DeWalt impacts is the DCF840. Lowe's has it with 2 batteries in a kit for $99 right now.

    The only downside to a 12v system is the typical DIY homeowner who only wants one set of tools then has to carry a second set of 20v batteries if they want to expand their tools and buy something like a sander or jig saw. Why are you applying more pressure on the atomic? Sorry to say, but your tests dont seem fair.
