Bought one about the same time this video was published - so incredibly cheap... My initial use for it is for various vintage lenses that I've used previously on micro four thirds cameras for still photography. Of course, I suddenly see the full potential of these lenses for the very first time, and the colour profiles of the S5 (mirrored in Lightroom) look beautiful. Been loving my s5 for 18 months now, I got it for all the anamorphic goodness it offers. I record onto an atomos ninja inferno (bit of a beast, but it was cheapish!) for ProRes, as on pc, free version of resolve won’t work with the 422 10 bit internal files the s5 creates. I also prefer the ProRes a lot over the internal h.265 for 50/60p in apsc mode that I use for wildlife. Cool video, thanks!
About the adapter, you can NOT adapt sony lenses to L mount. Sony's flange distance is 18mm and Lumix is 20mm. You can use Lumix lenses theoretically on Sony cameras but not the other way around. The problem with lumix is the limitation of lenses sadly
mmm kinda sorta. most lenses allow you to focus “past infinity” so you can still achieve infinity focus when adapting to L mount. also if you’re gonna adapt to L mount it rarely is from sony glass. there’s lots of better cheaper options from sigma and other companies. it’s one of the most versatile mounts
Love this video my man. The S5 and its big brother S1 are in my top 5 bang for buck cams currently, I've used them both for numerous productions and they are incredibly capable! Matched them to my BMPCC6KP with no problems at all. Even though I now have the S5ii, I miss the magic of the OG S5 Much love from Tennessee 🙏🏼
The 4k 60 crop is why I sold it. I kept the S1 for photography though and when I want a full frame look. The S1 just feels like a tank and the S5 felt a little fragile, especially with that micro HDMI. Also the focus peaking is soooo hard to see in Vlog. I guess someone recommended to use yellow, I'll try that out. And the lack of Auto White balance Lock is a real let down, especially since they gave that to the s5II as an incentive to buy which means the older models will probably never get it in a firmware update. I think there's weird stuff like lack of 24 FPS in 1080p, but there's 30fps? Lots of little things that could be corrected easily in firmware if lumix would be willing. Also the high speed video mode doesn't do a 24p export if I recall, also 30p, which makes it unusable for many projects. If you just want some great 4k 24p though, it's got really good dynamic range and is still highly ranked. The image is quite nice and 10 bit is great for color grading.
FYI on the FX3 needing a dummy battery, entirely incorrect. You just need a 65W powered USB C coming from a V mount battery such as one from Kondor Blue. Good video though.
@@WhiteJadeProductions I literally have that setup on both my rigs for the FX3 & S3 and they both charge, if you don't use a 65W converter cable, it will not charge correctly. personally the black magic assist is a better move (since it’s a phenomenal monitor anyways). braw is a better codec and has WAY less hassle than the workflow from the FP. Vlog is also one of the best log formats imo

5:34 Using a dummy battery on an FX3 is highly inadvisable and explicitly unsupported by Sony. I've seen horror stories of fried cameras after using sketchy gear. What you perhaps should have said instead is: "you can adapt any old SLR/DSLR lens to this camera, but because every other mirrorless camera can do the same, L mount is no better than any other mirrorless in this regard."
@@WhiteJadeProductions Technically, no. E-mount has a flange focus distance of 18mm, Nikon Z-mount only 16mm, while L-mount has 20mm. @WhiteJadeProductions So when you claim that "you can adapt almost any lens on the market to this camera" and that "there’s quite a few adapters for [mirrorless] mounts to L mount" you are talking about 3D-printed adapters (that you sadly don't provide links for) that ignores the mismatch in flange focal distance (and thus will make the lenses' focus markings useless, among other quirks), but relies on your lenses being able to focus past infinity to compensate for the mismatch in flange focal distance.
