WHAT IS HIGH GRADE STONE?
Anything you can run a 1/2" or more flake with a pressure flaker.
HEAT TREATING:
Heat treat a few FLAKES of everything you got except HIGH GRADE Raw Stone, Obsidian, Dacite, Basalt, Hornstone, Sonora, Fort Payne, or Rhyolite. Start with flakes and spalls less than 1" thick for 200°F for 24 hours to dry it out. Then raise the temp to 275°F and hold for 4 hours. Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back I at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 4 hours.
Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back in at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 1/2 hour, the raise to 375 for 4 hours.
Repeat with temp going up 50°F until you reach 600°F or nice chippable stone. Whichever comes first. If no good result, or things blow up, let us know. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต

Very entertaining. Love all the random thoughts.
Man you sure turned that clunker into a beautiful point. Nicely done sir!
Thank you
I love your videos man. Your definitely my favorite knapper. I always thought steel tools were useless till you proved everyone wrong.
I appreciate that. Thanks!
That’s good info, thanks.
That one turned out very nice, despite all the cracks in the block. Sure surprised me!
Keep producing videos on making wooden arrow shafts and arrows.
Thanks, will do 😉
Thanks mate
I could watch this all night ❤
You're very welcome. Glad you enjoyed it.
Nice!
Thanks Ray. I think some of this rock is from you, actually. Although, I do have a batch from 2 years ago.
Big changes or a complete paradigm shift
That was pretty dang fast. To take that clunky ugly stone and make that out of it! That is skill. Plus talking while doing it. Awesome work! I see something has arrived to Bellow Falls today. 😊
I will look.... 😁

I've got 900 lbs of the stuff I picked up on a road cut near the Mississippi river and Germantown Tn. I was working on a cell phone tower and there was a new road cut up to a tower site that had square piece just like that one you are working I've not worked much of it as it's all square edged and full of cracks. Your video gives me new hope that there's something inside those blocks.
Awesome
Good job jack
Thanks 🙂
Crackiola pudding turned into Filet minon. I find myself knapping from about 10pm to 4am or so. Its when everyone else is asleep and im able to turn on a livestream or documentary and just listen and chip away. Ive figured out what im using for a bopper is too lite and im not hitting it hard enough. Im gonna have to bite the bullet and buy the right stuff when I can. Im sure i dont have enough clout to earn a sponsored set. Problems of a poor man 😂
😁
Talking about hafting at the end. Not sure now, don't have my Overstreet guide with me, but the Chesapeake bay diamond point was styled to haft after the point broke. I have them in my collection here in Virginia eastern shore!
Interesting. Never heard of it.
FUBAR is the expression F@@ked up beyond all repair.
Ah yes ☝️😁
FUBAR don't really fit here, FUBAR is for a REPAIR gone bad if memory serves correctly. We are talking Virgin material here!
Shattered like a crackheads reality? nah, don't fit either....
Cracked like Humpty Dumpty?
Solid as Medusa's Mirror?
"Consider the many uses of birch by Native Americans. The waterproof bark - evolved to protect the easily rotting wood - made lightweight canoes, baskets, and kept rain out of homes. The resinous birch “tar” was also used to fill canoe gaps, cure leather, and as a healing salve for mosquito bites and skin sores"source bioeconomy coalition of minnesota

@@KnapperJackCrafty It's scary the amount of useless info stored away in this old noggin!
Who needs notches..!!?? Lmao, I prefer the look of a stone with no notches myself.. but appreciate good notch work.. so it's always an internal struggle for me
I can’t make notches sometimes. A lot of My stone is so flawed I end up making no notch thick points. I find a lot of willow leaf style local points around the place. So earlier people had the same issue.
What about the Colonial Pen insurance commercial with the guy with the cookie zi think I counted seven times he was going towards his mouth and never takes a bite of the plastic cookie
Yeah, I hate that.
Just wondering if Nevada wonderstone will take a heat treat? I have some nice chunks of it and have been using it for lapidary material but it would make some cool looking arrowheads if I could make it knappable.
As far as I know, Wonderstone doesn't respond to heat. But I'm not sure.
The type of "operational chain" where tools get reshaped and repurposed seems to be more frequent in the old world, and in the upper paleolithic. Before systematic quarrying was a thing. The evidence is mostly seen in blade core tech. Things like exhausted blade cores and thicker blade tools being turned into pressure micro blade cores. Earlier hominins seem to have just stayed near the stone sources, and later on with better logistics and transport it seems like work efficiency outweighs material economy.
Yes, that's my impression also. Although I didn't know it was more prevalent within the prismatic blade technology.
@@KnapperJackCrafty In Europe there's very little bifacial technology from the arrival of modern humans up to the end of the mesolithic. It's pretty much all blade tech and economizing material. That's where the french are coming from, but it doesn't necessarily translate to other areas and periods and it seems like they tend to assume it does.
Have you ever seen the video that says that ancient man would wittle down a large rock(or a little larger) like that into a kinda egg corn shape that they'd then travel around with shooting blades off of for people to use...they were the traveling knife guy...
Think about the possibility of whittling one of those n if you had one, getting blades to chip, shear, flake off of it...i imaging kinda like when you're thinning an arrowhead or knife blade n manage to flake one almost all the way across the back side...
It's a nice theory, but trying to provide consistent flakes off a single stone core is very risky. What happens when it doesn't work?
What do you do with your waste?
In Texas, if it's too small to knap, I bag it up and send it to the landfill with my household trash. Here in Vermont, I've been dumping the flakes at our local recycle center in the "natural waste" area. They dump concrete their too, so it gets mixed in with modern material.
How can I send you a rock .. Thanks
