    I remember being 9 or 10 years old and being with my Dad when he was looking to buy our first Hi-Fi system for the family. We walked into a department store and this song was playing on a “quadraphonic” sound system. I’d never heard the song before and although I was a total rock & roll kid, THAT voice on THAT sound system just blew me away. I’m almost 60 now and I’ll never forget that moment.

    I was 20, in the Army stationed at Ft. Carson Colorado in 1969. I was coming home in leave and spent the night at Denver Airport. Early in the .owning I saw a beautiful young girl in the book store and put my southern shyness aside, said hi and we struck up struck up a conversion. The rest was magical. I hear Judi Collins sing this song and my heart goes back to Denver and tge young lady headed back to Boston. Where ever you are, I've never forgotten you ❤️ ♥️ 💖

      I love songs with harmony but this is as good as any song with one singer. Truly a beautiful voice. Judy Collins ranks right up there with Judith Durham and Beverly Bivens. And she was backed up with a very good arrangement and band.

    In 1975/6, somewhere near the San Simeon area, I believe Judy Collins, came to wish me well because the restaurant that I had managed was being closed. She drove up in a powder blue VW, took out her 12-string guitar and personally sang to me Someday Soon. When she was done, we talked for a few moments then she left. I put on my backpack and picked up my guitar and thumbed my way on the Coastal Highway 101 - to Big Sur, where another incredible adventure took place. What a year that was…

      You should add details and get it to her biographer.
      If that had happened t me, shyness aside, I would have thought something romantic was happening, regardless of any telltale or obvious signs otherwise. Judy Collins won the genetic lottery. Talented and a gorgeous woman.

    Here it is May 14, 2020. I still shed tears hearing Judy sing this, 48 years since discovering it on her greatest hits album. It takes me back to being so young and dumb about love. Kudos to all of you out there for whom this great song evokes happy memories, not the crying spells for the one who didn’t work out.

    • @mattthrun-nowicki8641
      @mattthrun-nowicki8641 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dumb young love is EXACTLY what this song is about.
      The ultimate irony is subtly spelled out towards the end of the song, when she sings “he loves that damned old rodeo as much as he loves me”, perhaps sensing the seeds of their relationship’s end…being that he’s right now only “looking for his fun”, he’ll one day choose the rodeo over her and leave her crying. Which, of course, would mean her father’s completely right…and deep down, she knows it but can’t admit it. Instead, she throws herself to higher and higher heights to prove her dad wrong (she juxtaposes her dad’s prescient warning about him leaving her with “I would follow him right down the toughest road I know”), attempting to reject what she deep down knows is true.
      But that’s the key to dumb young love…intoxicating emotions, but deep down knowing your parents are right…it can’t last.
      Everyone goes through it when they’re young, and everyone secretly misses it when they get older.

      Actually, I think your girlfriend then, wife now's message was elegant and powerful in its authenticity, simplicity and suitability for the history and the occasion. Somehow, somewhere, I think that Ian and Sylvia and Judy Collins would approve. Lost today in ja ting between ja man and ja woman is the purity of intimacy. And yet, this was one delightful moment of intimacy fit for public use.

I don't think you will ever hear a better steel guitar on a pop song. Maybe the top 40 stations thought it was too country sounding and the country stations thought it was too pop? That used to happen.Thank you.
