I bought a crash damaged Mclaren 720s from Amsterdam but after it was delivered back to the UK i found some serious damage on the carbon tub that mclaren repair specialist wont touch. As i had spent so much on the car i was desperate to get it back on the road so i called Mclaren for help.

V-Tuned in Tennessee did what you’re doing. He had a crashed 720S and swapped tubs he might be able to help you. It was a big job but he did it and ended up with a beautiful car. Good luck Mat!

Tavarish has a person who repairs the carbon tub.
Keeping it left hand drive will retain its value. That tub can easily be worked to convert to LHD. No brainer 👍🏼

It's actually qiet dumb what he is doing. Paying that that much without even having a good look on a car before.
But he grows his channel this way, ears loads of money with ads and in the end he sells the car through his "lottery" for way more than market price.
So its win, win. He earns loads of money and we get awsome videos.

I had the same type of relationship with my dad up until he died when I was 18, I am now 36 and still miss him and all the things I couldn’t share with him through my adult life. Appreciate all the time you have with your family.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…the level and amount of jobs Matt can take on at once, and still have the ability to commit time to all of them and upload 30+ minute long videos constantly on them is absolutely insane. Keep up the insane work man 👍🏽

I knew Mat had this all sorted out before buying the car. He plans these builds so methodically, you can guarantee he had that tub secured before buying the Dutch Mclaren. The rest is theatrics for the sake of TH-cam entertainment which builds the suspense, & it’s all brilliantly crafted &so watchable. Hats off to you guys!
Don't fit big turbos without forged rods as they will bend.

Do the connecting rods too if you are looking at bigger turbos. Sick video, insane amount of progress in a single video. Very satisfying.

I literally just commented the same thing. These engines aren't known for their strong rods, bigger turbos would certainly place these rods in an uncomfortable position, especially with all the extra torque being produced.
What’s more enjoyable to watch is the father and son working together and having fun….!! 👍🏼👍🏼

Great video, Matt! I wouldn't upgrade the turbos unless you are sure the internals of the engine can handle it. You don't want to have an incident like Tavarish! Can't wait until the next video!

Yeah I just said the same thing - do not touch the turbos until the rods are upgraded. That Larini exhaust system is enough of an upgrade for now.

Do not upgrade the turbos or tune this engine. See what happened to Tavarish. The internals of these Mclaren engines will not withstand increased loads.
Matt, I've been late to the party, so to speak, as far as subscribing to your videos but let me say that I absolutely love watching these. The relationship between you and your dad and your absolute joy you must have to work on these beautiful, mobile works of art is what hooked me to your channel. You have an amazing attitude (at least on camera) even when things don't go your way. I'll watch everything you post as often as you post them without fail. Dismantling and putting second hand parts back together is a bore.
At least if the man could actually work on the engines, but he's literally just picking up cars which have been written off because uneconomical to repair and doing it himself.
If he wants to lose time its his problem.
Mat before you upgrade ANY performance parts like the turbo's I strongly advise to upgrade the cylinder rods, otherwise you'll end up with a blown engine like Tavarish ;-)

Hi Mat, you may not know it, but your channel is VERY therapeutic for people with mental health issues - in particular severe depression and forced loneliness. You take a visibly almost-impossible and terrible situation and fight through it, without giving up, until you have beaten it. It is very inspirational to the down-trodden. Your optimistic positive voice is also a source of company to many. I just wanted to make you aware of this side of your channel....

Be careful upgrading the turbos you do remember what happened to Tavarish's 675LT don't you?! Make sure you upgrade the internals while you're there as well otherwise it might go bang!

This is an incredible endeavor and it looks like you’re already blazing through it. That being said I wouldn’t upgrade the turbos, apparently finding the right pressure in these units is really finicky

I used to work at mclaren automotive, building 720s 765LT and the rest. See all the guys that work there… someone as clue on as you will 100% be able to this! Can’t wait to see the upcoming videos! Keep it up!
Great content, I would definitely do the RHD swap seeing as though to tub is set up for that. All they LHD parts can be sold on to help pay for new parts.

To solve the left hand right hand tub problem, you could cut out the different sections and swop them over. Easiest way to mount them would be to cut maybe 30mm wider around that piece so the wider piece is common to both and then use an adapter ring maybe out of aluminium to attach the part to the tub. The adaptor ring will just need to marked in 3 places so it lines up with the tub so it fits the other tub perfectly. Maybe that's an option. Good luck
Yeah, just cut the structural tub sounds like a great idea.
But my guy, that hole on the tube is already cut by a robot. So why can mat also cut it to fit his liking
I am not a petrol head and don't even know where the fuses are on my old Ford Focus, but I find these vids super inspirational for some random reason.
Nothing is looked on as a 'problem', they are all 'challenges' which is a fantastic way to go about life in general. Great stuff!

Never been a fan of manufacturers recommendations tbh as most dealerships are incompetent at best. Not a mechanic myself but studied engineering to a Masters level and pretty much everything is fixable with the right tools and expertise

I was working at the company (CarboTech) that built the carbon monocoques for the mp4 12c series back in the days so this was a joy to watch. Besides the roof the 720 tub looks almost identical to the ones i built. Great memories

Nice one, complicated construction, I was doing the same with corvette c4 in 2 days and the only fluid I had to leak was ciolant the other could stay intact, even brakes and aircon.

Good for you I have rebuilt a few cars from auction. Nothing extraordinary like this just suburbans and volkswagens and what not but it is rewarding when finished

Looking at the front wall of that tub it looks symmetric, except for the hole locations. If you cut the matching hole pattern on the reverse side, and doing a carbon fiber repair where oversize holes are, I expect you can change it from right hand drive to left hand drive. Make sure you wear breathing protection when drilling/grinding on carbon fiber.
There are companies out there that do left/right hand conversions, we have a couple in Aus that I've used. That dashboard can be reconfigured (grafted) and then recovered, the wiring loom can also be remade or purchased. The steering rack should be a sourcable item.
The other option is to graft the LHD firewall onto the RHD tub, any decent CF specialist can perform that task.
It comes down to whether you can live with a LHD car.
