    This Atelier game looks so cute with the chibi designs, it looks very different from the usual atelier style games. I like the way you can choose between having a deadline and not, I feel like more and more games are easier and adding more quality of life features these days, like difficulty selection etc. Back in the day there was no such thing, if you got stuck that was it, tough

    I just started this one a few days ago. The blurriness also threw me off quite a bit. It was a strange choice 😅 I agree that this title is more for people that are already fans of Atelier. I was definitely excited to play this one to see how the very first Atelier was, and I am enjoying my time with it! Obviously nowhere near the quality of more modern Atelier games, but still an enjoyable game :) Marie is so cute!

    As a kid, I have found Marie to be both gorgeous and charming. Thank you for creating this entertaining review. Truth be told, it was my most enjoyable platinum trophy of the year 2023. I have played it during July 2023. Having the chance to experience Marie's first adventures had brought me tons of joy! I rate this game 8/10. It was not boring at all.

  • @kayaflip

    Well I did one playthrough of it and it's the kind of game you could play over and over again. I used Normal Time because I have been getting into games with time limit. You learn a lot more playing it timed because lot of the mechanics is about time and item management. In gameplay you will get more out of it playing on normal time, you will know the importance of certain items, what to sell/hand in for quests for money, then try and balance how much money you use vs. time etc. If you play it timed there is a lot more strategies to use but it also makes it more engaging, you make mistakes and you live with them and learn more to use on the next playthrough. It also has multiple endings and lots of replayability. The characters are interesting at least for me but many might find them kind of generic, I just don't have much to compare them to because I only played Firis for a while and didn't finish it.
    The chibi animal crossing design is probably done on purpose because the original looked like it was kind of chibi at least with the playable models. I haven't played Animal Crossing either but it's about traveling to places to collect, helping neighbors and stuff like that.

  • @koxame

    Also in Atelier Sophie 1 and Atelier Lydie & Suelle I got kinda stress because sidequests have time limit (days).

  • @silverian
    @silverian ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Purr Purr Games are Purfect 🙂 Great review! Team member expenses cost makes it different compared to other RPG games, where you usually do not have to worry about those expenses. Time limited quests remind me of Daggerfall. And sometimes games have night/morning time separation (Person is only available at nights..)

    I’ve heard other reviewers saying it’s almost impossible to fail the time limit even if you play with it on. I think one mentioned he finished the game with well over half the time left and he wasn’t even trying to be fast. It definitely seems more simple than most Atelier games but because of that it might be a good starting point and then play more complicated Atelier games after.

    I disagree that Marie is not a good game to start with if your new. I was new. Never touched a single atelier game and I went with Marie because it was the original game. And I fell in love with it. It was super cute, and as you could turn off the only time limit that actualy matters (story ending) I wasnt stressed by failing or missing side quests. To be fair the sidequests usualy show in advance what you need. So I simply didnt even accept side quests untill I already had what I needed for them in my inventory. Never failed side quests again after that strat haha.
    Marie is the reason I got into Atelier. And I will argue Marie is the PERFECT game to start with. Because it both provides the old traditional style, and an option to experiment with it with the deadline turnd off. Its a way to test if the time limit games are for you or not. Alchemy is also pretty straight foreward here. More simple. So another great way to experiment if you like that sort of gameplay.
    Marie is charming, showing the roots of the franchise, and allowing you a sample taste because the game is not to big either. Also a reason its great as an introduction game.
    I personaly would recommend everyone who never played atelier to look into Marie first. Unless they truly hate chibi art style. But fair is fair, I can only give the experience and opinion of somebody that was actualy 100% new, as in not played a single atelier game yet. I dont tend to marathong franchises, so I only have played a few of them so far, currently doing ayesha.
    Anyway I get revieuws are personal and not gospel of course, but I just wanted to offer a different pov in case there are people in the chat who are still 100% new to atelier.
    Marie is amazing as a first game. . When you dont know yet how you feel about time limits, this is the safest game to test that. Because other games either just have it, or dont, or have it for a part. But you can never chose. As far as I know anyway. So this is the perfect game to test it. Because it is short its also a great test game. Because crafting is not to complicated here, it is also a great test game. Will it become your favorite in the franchise? probably not. But it is for sure a good game to start the journey on. I did, and I am super glad so far I did this game before the others instead of after. I am pretty sure i would have enjoyed this game far less had I done it later. Have a nice day everyone.

    8:10 Now you know how I felt about Link's Awakening on Switch (regarding the blurryness).

    • @SomeoneNamedJohn
      @SomeoneNamedJohn ปีที่แล้ว +3

      On this game and in ‘Link’s Awakening’, it was probably partly done as a creative choice to simulate the tilt shift look that’s done in photography. Also, it partly may be a work-around for the graphical limitations of the Switch, much like the way the fog was used in the original ‘Silent Hill’ games to get the frame rate to a playable state on consoles.

    • @PikaLink91
      @PikaLink91 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SomeoneNamedJohn Without being a programmer myself I can hardly believe it was a choice of limitations, but personally I thought it was an artistic choice for Link's Awakening. Since the big twist is that you are in a dream, I thought the foggy boarder were to simulate the instability and flimsy nature of dreams, and how your mind can be foggy right when you wake up. I know, I am likely overthinking this, but that's because I have played too much Kingdom Hearts where abstract symbolism is everwhere.

    • @SomeoneNamedJohn
      @SomeoneNamedJohn ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PikaLink91 - Yeah. If it was an artistic choice, the tilt shift look is poorly implemented. Combined with the chibi look, they were most likely trying to create the feel of toys on a table top. I think the ‘Octopath Traveler’ games do a fantastic job of creating that tilt shift look by making an actual plane of focus rather than just plopping a blur on the top and bottom of the screen.

    I love Ircha's tone of voice and facial expression at the announcement of "only-Japanese" voices. To me personally, I put English VA in higher regard quality wise than Japanese, so if a game is only voiced in Japanese, it tells me that the devs cheaped out and couldn't "afford" English voices. Then again, Ircha, aren't all Atelier games Japanese-only?
