I have done this too, got mine sandblasted and then after it did weldings too, had more rust. I did maybe bit overkill with the protection... Used on under a rust neutralizer before 2k epoxy primer, 2 layers of it, then 2 layers of paint on top of that, 2k too. And after that that coating for stone chips, and then, very importantly: the hollow section section cavity protection to inside too. That's a lovely car btw. Most beautiful of X5's. Definetely a classic material in the future. I also bought one subframe from mediterranean area with no rust at all on it, but I think I will still put back the one I already did huge and overkill work with. But it's very epic to find original one which is as old as mine about and still no rust on it :D Damn salt.

I regret not getting mine sandblasted. This took waaaay too long.
Good job on restoring yours! It will be protected well. Adding some welding is definitely a good idea!
I sprayed comoline inside the sunframe as well so that it doesn't rust from the inside.

@@BimmerFix Only thing I regret is to not take new subframe big bushings off while doing that and then get it to a zinc/galvanized before painting it. Would have done good... I don't think these subframes will be very common after few years. They can crack too on heavy usage if unlucky. For what I understand, new ones are not made anymore.
