    Credit card Cent Per Point seems to be always a contentious subject, but in this video I’d like to show off both sides of the argument in which CPP does matter, and where it may matter just a bit less.
    I also outline a tale of 2 Hilton Curio hotels in which 1 of my stays, at the Mills house hotel, had a horrible CPP value, but it was the best vacation I’ve ever really had.
    Meanwhile the same Curio brand hotel, had a great CPP value, but it was the WORST stay of my life haha, so the nuances come in to play when factoring in your subjective experience.

    This can be tough at times. What I have resorted to is if I don’t like the CPP, I am not going to change my plans but will just book with cash and earn more points 😅.

    • @AnthonyVenture
      @AnthonyVenture  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes absolutely. And haha, makes sense for sure! I still just don’t want to pay cash for anything at the moment, or at least 90% of the time, so I’ll continue with points. But I’m sure that’ll change in the future etc.
      Thanks Xavier man for being here!!

    Cents per point is nice for airlines when you get an economy flight through an alliance partner for good value. From my closest airport, Delta flies to Salt Lake City for 49000 MR points 49000 Delta points. Booking this same flight through Virgin Atlantic with its 30% transfer bonus only needs a transfer of 17000 MR points to 22000 VA points. That's a point redemption of over 3 cemts per point, but it does not go overboard hoarding points just to spend a ton of them on some redemption.
    Personally I had this redemption I didn't think was worth it on a recent trip I had to New York City. I stayed at the Midtown Conrad with a 1.8 MR point (or 0.9 Hilton point). It was 95000 Hilton points. I chose Midtown because it was close to a certain theatre that was playing a Back to the Future musical I planned to watch with friends. The service at the hotel was subpar and I would've chose another Hilton if I had the hindsight.
    After my experience of being in New York for the 4 day trip, I'm gonna look more closely at hotel reviews and book stuff with the least amount of points.

      @AnthonyVenture  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely and these are 2 very interesting cases as to why and when it can make a lot of sense, and you seemed to have some great redemptions here absolutely, great value.
      But yes, reviews really are kind of one of the most important parts to choosing our stays and flights I think.
      Thank you for this Mr Sleepy Head, it’s always good to hear these experiences!

    CPP is meh, I get optimization but it can be crippling to some.
    For me, I just do a quick mental math. Example hotel credit card annual free night certificate. Let’s say the annual fee is $150. As long as I stay at a property that’s greater than $150 - all good by me. Easy math

    • @AnthonyVenture
      @AnthonyVenture  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I think so, a middle ground is always needed it seems.
      And right on, good point about FNC and covering the annual fee, absolutely agree with that, I should have mentioned that actually.
      Thanks again Key! 🔑

    Honestly for real, because as long as you’re getting value out of the trips you use your points for (provided you’re not getting like .5 CPP😭), that’s what matters to yourself

    • @AnthonyVenture

    Cpp must be at least above the cashback rate. So if amex, the minimum is 1.2cpp since can get cash rebate for 1.1cpp. Even if cpp is 1.15 i rather take the cash rebate and then book the hotels or flight with cash. Cos usually booking with cash also give me rebate in the form of hotel points or airline miles

    • @AnthonyVenture
      @AnthonyVenture  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I think so for sure, and people forget the value of buying points/what they are worth after transferring etc.
      And agreed on those other perks when paying cash, have to work that into CPP.
      Thanks MinTico!!

    I love the EPP (Experience Per Point) 😂I'm definitely in the middle on this topic as well. I definitely think there should be some sort of established value & threshold, but at the same time there typically isn't high-end first class products to like South America where I love traveling to, and so I"m happy to get 3-4 cents/point for travel that I really look forward to. Great video Anthony!

    I’m kind of in the middle, need to value our points as a currency, above a certain “commonly accepted” threshold as to not lose money/value unnecessarily, but it also won’t stop me from booking a stay I just want to do, regardless of value. So I play both sides depending on the situation I think.
    What do you guys think?

    I wonder how you guys in the "CC Game" get around getting rejected due to high number of inquiries in your credit report. Have a >750 score, zero negatives, own home, no debt, very high income, no balances, about $250K in current CC credit lines, and yet got rejected by Wells Fargo for the free autograph due to "high number of inquiries". Seriously??

    • @AnthonyVenture
      @AnthonyVenture  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think I saw a few folks answer your question, but basically it just depends on the issuer. Somebody like Amex cares far less than someone like Wells Fargo.
      So usually you’ll see folks with a lot of Chase and Amex, and none of the others I think.
      Thanks Dgasmd!

    CPP isn't overrated if you have a finite number of points. Excluding SUBs, most people can't spend enough and earn enough points to cover trips for multiple people. I'm not going to cancel a domestic trip because I can't cover it with points, but I might opt for cash if I need to hit a SUB or I plan to get more value out of an even more expensive international trip where you need hundreds of thousands of points.

      MS is easy but you have to know where to get the info

    • @AnthonyVenture
      @AnthonyVenture  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that’s a very good distinction to make for sure, cash now vs way more value for the same amount of points for a later date trip etc.
      Totally agreed Richie completely! Thank you!
      And MS ha, usually I find those folks in Facebook groups etc. I just don’t even want to go near it honestly.

  • @AP_808
    @AP_808 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The idea of EPP sounds good but in many cases usually has little to do with your point redemptions unless you spend the entire trip in the hotel. You can have a great hotel but be in a terrible location (many that look convenient can be loud), overcrowded, etc. I view points as a tool to transport. Most of my points are used for coach Econ flights. I’m trying to stretch them and load up on experiences by going to cool places. Hotels are awesome but have such high competition compared to flights, so I sparingly use points for hotels unless I have them from SUBs. CPP matters but you do have to consider routing, airline. Essentially I try to optimize until it gets inconvenient, then pull back.

    • @AnthonyVenture
      @AnthonyVenture  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t think having a good hotel in a good location and EPP are mutually exclusive though, I think it just means that if there’s a particular place that draws you in, and you want to stay, there Ninja will stay there even if the CPP isn’t amazing. Depending on cash price too of course.
      Also I lied what you said about hotels being more competitive than flights, I never thought of it that way but it’s absolutely true. Need to be faster to book, and more strategic in a way with hotels.
      Of course rare award flights and planes hold weight in this, but not for the majority.
      Thanks AP, good points all around!

    These types of discussions are thrilling to partake in as we attempt to merge processing objectivity with the reality of subjectivity. Preservation of liquid cash vs cash back rebate/statement credits vs points currencies all have their own unique role for the earner at the end of day. This is also considering every single person is using their cards responsibly and not owing interest..which throws a huge wrench into the fundamental concept of “winning” in this game. Thank you again for the opportunity to speak with you, and I look forward to learning from differing perspectives on this topic. Team EPP 😎

    It is vastly overrated and I dont care about it. I came back from a 11 day vacation and the only thing that was on my mind was how many free hotel nights can I book using my Hilton and Hyatt and IHG points for this 22 night stay (2 rooms per night). I couldnt care less whether it was a Waldorf or not. I just needed a free night and many of them. I found that Homewood suites and regular Hiltons and Hyatts suited me just fine.

    • @AnthonyVenture
      @AnthonyVenture  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wowwww 22 night stay??? That’s wild!
      Yes that’s how I feel as well, I guess the priority changes depending on how much you travel, but with a few trips per year, it may matter less about maximizing and more about how good the stay was, and was it no cash out of pocket.
      Great point Ping, that’s wild, I’d love to hear more about that stay you did one day. Maybe on a podcast if you’d ever be open to it!

      @@AnthonyVenture Haha, yes 22 nights is a lot of nights but booked mainly using points.
