Chris, I have been watching your videos for a few years now. Your passion and love of being on the water and enjoying the beautiful nature is unbelievable. If I have the opportunity, I would definitely be like you one day. Or perhaps I can join your awesome crew 😊. Stay safe !!
Captain Chris, you are spot on... get out and enjoy mother nature! I got home from a great day of skiing and low and behold my favorite fishing channel has a new video. I hope your passion for the great outdoors never fades. I am 61 and I still love it!
First and foremost congratulations on a great year a great trip keep making videos. I live in Florida come up and fish Cape May every summer and do a lot of daytime swordfishing in South Florida and up here currently commercial tuna fish on a stick boat. We cut out tile fishing. We’ve been daytime about your question, how we do it is 5 ft of 80 pound mono tied to the lead at one end the other end a long line clip with a swivel heavy duty. Long line clip. We put a floss loop on our wind on 125 feet away from your swivel . Just on clip your long line clip as fast as possible.. We always make sure wearing gear, we have swivel rod holders doesn’t always go down smooth but we try to make it as quick and painless as possible, but by keeping tension on the line seems to help keep pressure on the fish because a lot of times that lead is keeping the hook in . But I’m with you , way too many fish get lost at the lead, Definitely been plagued with that before . Anyway good luck in the future will stay tuned.
Chris you are bringing back memories for me Fished the Norh east canyons for 20 + years. Lost my captain 😢one year ago . Enjoy every trip fish or no fish 🌶🎸
Hope you guys continue to have a blast in Costa Rica, had a good time surfing Boca Barranca with y’all this morning! Thanks for sharing your page info!!
Hey capt chris one thing i have realized when sword fishing is it is easier to get the weight off iff you pit the boat in gear hard so it keeps tension
I'm from no.Calif n watching tuna fishing on east coast 😊 Gotta love technology! You guys get it done right, thanks for taking me along, cool video 😅🎣👍
On the weight removal, once you remove the weight keep the line tight till it gets back to the rod tip and loads the rod. Looked like the line got slack during the transition. Not easy to do. Another tip might be to move the rod forward on your gunwale for the transition vs swiveling the rod for that part of the fight. Tight Lines!
Great video, great trip! Congratulations! I went snorkeling in the Hudson under different circumstances. Had to free the props from a discarded or lost CF net. Not fun with the swells. It took me about 45 minutes to free the props. It was a mess. Keep the videos coming! Thanks!
Great video Capt. Epic day you had. Can you tell me what intel or service ypu use to decide when and where to start your troll? Also an in depth look at how you bleed the tuna
Thanks so much Doug. I'll try and do some vids on the bleeding this coming season. I have a big network of guys I talk with all the time for intel. And i use ripcharts, terrafin and rutgers sea surface temp satellite services to analyze water conditions out there. The first two are pay site, Rutgers is free.
Had a few runs this summer to the Hudson on my Yellowfin, no luck with tuna but we had lights out mahi fishing as well. Almost makes the mileage worth it when they save the day. Love the winter videos Capt. Cant wait for the season, itching so bad!!
Removing the weight off the leader is the most common way of losing fish. make sure the boat is in gear and doing at least 4-5 kts. once the weight is removed slowly guide the line back up to the rod tip before releasing it. hope this helps, great Vid!
awsome trip and makes life easy on you the captain and the trip when having a great crew and they all seemed to be on there A game that trip. pretty work
The closest pots I will reliably find mahi are about 25-30 miles but you can find them in as close as 10-12 miles. the mahi inshore are typically way more finicky, but you can have some very good days
About 1991 6 of us took an overnighter, we got to the Lindenkohl Saturday morning @ daylight. The biggest thing that freaked me out was the sun setting Saturday evening, knowing we were 80? miles offshore and not another boat in sight lol.
Hey Chris on the weight removal I like to get my hand on the leader side (closer to the hook) and maintain tension as I unclip the weight with my other hand. Once the weight is unclipped, I’ll slowly release the tension I have on the line with my other hand, guiding the line to the rod tip as the reel man winds tight. I have some solid go-pro footage of this if you’re interested in seeing it.
If your taking your lead off keep the boat in gear and back your drag off don’t turn the reel off use your hands to stall the reel out. if u get a lower butt I may help that rod sticks up really high
I can't believe how clear the water is for Jersey. Nice tiles and beautiful catches🎣 living the dream 🎣🤙 Hey, did you catch the sea bass off the docks behind you staying there this summer?
Thanks so much for watching!! Yea people don't realize how clear our water can get. Not sure what you mean about the sea bass. I rarely fish off my dock, unfortunately not much going on
Many of the largers swords I've had landed were tangled in the leader during the fight and that has lead me to not losing many fish. Are you driving up current as you drop the bait down?
Nice vid/fish though it would be safer and humane to spike the tuna asap instead of them lying there dying slowly. They sat there way to long. Just seen you videos yesterday, didn’t know you’re out of NJ, nice. Respect the fish people respect the fish. What type of whales have you been seeing in our waters lately?
we like to spike them as soon as we can. but sometimes you hafta capitalize on the bite. We fish with a way smaller crew than most any offshore boat so usually not too many hands to do bunch of different things. pilot whales galore in canyons. finbacks in the midshore grounds. thanks so much for watching!
Hey capt, I really enjoy watching your videos.started tuna fishing about 2 years ago . can't make it to the canyon with my boat but can,do the inshore bite, but even inshore nature is amazing between the dolphins and the whales. Keep up the good work, tight lines.
Hey Bro New Sub. I have been watching some of your videos and I really like them. I have fished Off Shore a few times and I really loved it my question is how much do you charge me to take me with you Off Shore it would be a good collaboration I would appreciate it if you let me know if it is possible.
In regards to losing while unclipping lead.... 1. What hook are you using? 2. Are you trying to get more horizontal by means of throwing the reaper into clutch forward, before advancing on the reel where you can unclip? (This is where we made mistakes early on.... for whatever reason, it is different when you are drifting slow, especially at night....don't ask me.) The theory is that you creat two bows in the line with strong current drifts, and they reverberate.... I know this sounds silly, but without drawing it on paper, it's difficult to explain.
Chris, I have been watching your videos for a few years now. Your passion and love of being on the water and enjoying the beautiful nature is unbelievable. If I have the opportunity, I would definitely be like you one day.
Or perhaps I can join your awesome crew 😊. Stay safe !!
Wow, thank you

Thanks for the kind words Christopher!!! Glad you got out and enjoyed the mountains. Keep at it!
Enjoying life with a good crew and friends too. Excellent.
Couldn't agree more!

Thanks so much for the tip. I’ll definitely give that a try.
Love the outlook man going to canyons in a few days for an overnighter with some buddies hope we have same kind of luck!
thanks so much for watching! Hopefully you got it good
Chris you are bringing back memories for me Fished the Norh east canyons for 20 + years. Lost my captain 😢one year ago . Enjoy every trip fish or no fish 🌶🎸
Sorry to hear Gregory. Thanks so much for watching. I still have more tuna vids to share from the 2022 season
That's right where we always lose our swords as well. Great video, looks like lots of fun (until you get the fuel bill).
Yeah the fuel bill from the Hudson trips hurts even more!!!
These winter videos are killin me man
Ha!! Soon enough
Hope you guys continue to have a blast in Costa Rica, had a good time surfing Boca Barranca with y’all this morning! Thanks for sharing your page info!!
Nice meeting you John. Safe travels back home!! Thanks for checking out the channel!
Great video. I like how you don't put music over the whole thing- that makes it unwatchable. Great narration, great video shots. Will watch more!
I appreciate that!
Hey capt chris one thing i have realized when sword fishing is it is easier to get the weight off iff you pit the boat in gear hard so it keeps tension
we have tried that with mixed success. Work in progress
I deal with the same thing when pulling a board off salmon fishing. You wanna keep that line tight to the rod don't wanna let it snap back to tension.
Thanks so much Dan
I'm from no.Calif n watching tuna fishing on east coast 😊 Gotta love technology! You guys get it done right, thanks for taking me along, cool video 😅🎣👍
Aw man that's so cool!! Thanks so much for watching!

Awesome. Thanks so much for the tips!!! Makes sense
I have been watching all your videos
I think you have the best canyon fishing videos
You should have 100k plus subscribers
Keep up the tight lines!!
Thanks so much for the kind words!! My ultimate goal is 100k subscribers, but it's tough
Great video, great trip! Congratulations! I went snorkeling in the Hudson under different circumstances. Had to free the props from a discarded or lost CF net. Not fun with the swells. It took me about 45 minutes to free the props. It was a mess. Keep the videos coming!
Thanks!
Ugh. I've been there before as well!!! Thanks so much for watching

Yeah the mahi sure can save the day!!!
Great video like always. Cool you jumped in. Do that often in August.
It's so fun!
When you get the dolphin going like that near a pot drop a jig down deep, wahoo are there
Ooh thanks for the tip!! I know they're out there I just don't target them
That was awesome! Loved the part where you jumped in with the mahi. #AnotherEpicVideo
Glad you liked it!!
Tight Lines and Always Fish On 🎉🎉🎉
You know it!
Removing the weight off the leader is the most common way of losing fish. make sure the boat is in gear and doing at least 4-5 kts. once the weight is removed slowly guide the line back up to the rod tip before releasing it. hope this helps, great Vid!
Thanks for the tips!
When you take the weight off don’t “ping” the line..keep a hand in the line and wind tight and gently release it as the reel picks up the slack.
Ok thanks MG31. Makes perfect sense
awsome trip and makes life easy on you the captain and the trip when having a great crew and they all seemed to be on there A game that trip. pretty work
Thanks so much for watching Ryan!!! Yea I'm lucky with a great crew
Wow, what a Great trip!!
yes it sure was. Thanks so much for watching!
Great trip Capt! on the meat. Grundens makes some nice footwear. Xtra tuf boots leak.
Yeah I gotta get all the boys some proper boots
Another great video! We back the the drag way off at the weight.
Thanks so much for watching and thanks for the tip!!!
Badass fishing boat 👍
Thank you so much!
Hi Chris , Awsome Videos , first time commenting , what’s that blue line you use and what kind of Gaffs do you use please
Whiplash of the fishing line hook just fell out
Very nice! Gotta get this channel to 20k
Fingers crossed!
You feeding that mahi is insane
How far are the pots you usually fish inshore?
The closest pots I will reliably find mahi are about 25-30 miles but you can find them in as close as 10-12 miles. the mahi inshore are typically way more finicky, but you can have some very good days
So awesome Chris! great job.
Thanks so much Steven!
You da man, keep it up man
Thanks, will do!

Thumbs up for another great video. I appreciate it!
Thank you too!

Great vid capt.
Thanks!

I use an lp and I never pull them off on the lead
Ok thanks for the tip Braxton!! Appreciate it

Not sure what you mean about the sea bass. I rarely fish off my dock, unfortunately not much going on
I understand....
What a fun trip. When was this filmed?
He said August 24th
Many of the largers swords I've had landed were tangled in the leader during the fight and that has lead me to not losing many fish. Are you driving up current as you drop the bait down?
We deploy our baits driving with the current approaching our spot. So far we have never had a tangle
Nice vid/fish though it would be safer and humane to spike the tuna asap instead of them lying there dying slowly. They sat there way to long. Just seen you videos yesterday, didn’t know you’re out of NJ, nice. Respect the fish people respect the fish. What type of whales have you been seeing in our waters lately?

pilot whales galore in canyons. finbacks in the midshore grounds. thanks so much for watching!
What are you using for chunks for the mahi?
Just butterfish
Great video!!
Thank you so much Rocky!
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
Very nice!
Thank you! Cheers!

Thanks so much for watching John. Hopefully 2023 brings us some good inshore fishing
The biggest challenge during weight removal is to keep the pressure on the line
Thanks

1. Mustad 7691 11/0 or 12/0.
2. I typically try to keep some forward momentum with the boat in gear when we are close to weight removal
