Joe Jackson could do everything. Was THE punk rock star, tuned it on a penny, had THE pop it, and also did big band work at a very high level. Most underrated musician of all time tbh

Exactly what great bass lines. I listened to greatest hits today in the car and found this clip when I got home. I was telling my wife to listen to the bass lines and she's looking at me like I'm from Mars ! Ha ha

I listen to this song almost every time I get in my car. The bass is awesome, but the drummer needs some respect too… the energy of this song almost makes me forget I am singing yo-yo five or six times.
Hung out with graham and Dave after a show talk for a few hours joe went to his bus but we were only people backstage hanging out and I have to say those guys were top notch blokes!!!
Joe is really selling it ... very impassioned. Such a great band ... Maby is such an originator but I always thought Dave Houghton's chops were so tight and Sanford's playing was very melodic and inventive for the style. Such a great band. What a great ending.
The audience was either inflatable or made out of cardboard. I could listen to this song on a loop for 24 hours and still love it. This coulda been Bill Hicks tbeme song.
Totally Agree with ya! I'm just goin thru Joe's Catalogue then saw your comment. Ya nailed it right on! Goin to see him here in Victoria,B.C. CANADA in 28 hrs. So Stoked.....Last time I saw him was in 1980. Have a Great one Kat Kab
As to the audience, while it's no excuse it is a German Television audience, not exactly a mosh inducing environment. Blisteringly great music, musicians and attitude!

Totally agree. Joe and the band put out a ton of energy on stage and the audience just sits there like beatniks at an artsy fartsy coffee house. This seems to be par for the course at Rockpalast. There's video of the Stray Cats rocking the asses off in a great performance and the Rockpalast audience just gives a golf clap at the end. Maybe in Germany they're just extra polite or maybe the management hands out free Xanax before every concert. Whatever. It must be frustrating for the bands.
Graham Maby never fails to impress, in so many styles.

And holy shit that bass player is a freaking god
Graham Maby
Still is......
G.M. was/is among the best rock bassists ever. Saw them around this time and stood 10 feet in front of Graham with my jaw gone slack in awe.
I saw JJ with Graham last week. Killer band and Maby is as good as ever. 😊
was thinking the exact same thing.
Joe's band doesn't feature a lead guitarist ... it features a lead bassist!
Fuck yeah! He is the Man. People forget that the 80s started in 1978. 79.
Low by bowie/eno started new wave in 1976.
the bass is everything
.......
That bass
...
.........
F*cking love it!
Unreal pure punk roots version of Joe in his youth
This is the Joe Jackson that I remember way back in 1979-80 in Central Park NYC angry and at the top of his game.
I love the way these young cats tear it up! I just had to get another blast from the past!
I have loved this song since I was a kid. I swear the high speed will give me a heart attack someday.
well, I just got my daily dose of rock n' roll and then some! Thank you 1980
OUTSTANDING.
Absolutely brilliant songwriting, fantastic lyrics
Have you noticed that both Joe Jackson and Elvis Costello wrote all their best stuff when they were angry young men?
same goes for Alanis Morisette!!
Yes indeed. Add Graham Parker and you have the holy trinity of angry young men between 1977-81. All brilliant with fantastic bands behind them.
Battered Wives
No, did you?
@@nehoc00 Alanis was an angry young man? 🤔
Love the bass in this song! Rock N' Roll
They say rock is dead. Long live Joe. The Stones....
Exactly what great bass lines. I listened to greatest hits today in the car and found this clip when I got home. I was telling my wife to listen to the bass lines and she's looking at me like I'm from Mars ! Ha ha

What a great band! What a great song!
Simply amazing bass...
+osubucks69 That bass kicks ass. YES...you can play the bass with a pick.
Isn't it? When your band is essentially a trio, extra duties fall to the bassist and guitarist. Graham Maby rocks here!
Graham Maby is thee best. Amazing that he can do this with a pick. My favorite bass player of all time
Gram maby is the man.
+papa John The Bassist is ALWAYS the Man. lol
Saw them last night Maby with Doug Yowell on drums were fantastic !
Great energy…amazing bass line!
Doesn't get better than this.
Graham Maby is INSANE ! Camera could have been on him WAYYY more
More Bassist Neglect by camera operators... sometimes they Are a big part of the show!
So True mate.......Bass was the Star !
Agreed. He is always on!

I listen to this song almost every time I get in my car. The bass is awesome, but the drummer needs some respect too… the energy of this song almost makes me forget I am singing yo-yo five or six times.
F_cking Brilliant! Graham is one of the best...along, with Bruce Thomas of that era.
This is why the 80s was the best time to be young x
andrew smith I want to go back there !!
Perhaps you may have heard of the 1960's? It was in all the papers for awhile.
@@dantean was it in the Sunday Papers?
From The Great Music Renaissance of the 1980's. Great music and great time growing up in America.
How can you sit there and not dance to this?
I LOVED dancing to this song in college!!! I'd be exhausted after... but well worth it!
This is so f'ing good........... I just crawled outta' my skin.
Hung out with graham and Dave after a show talk for a few hours joe went to his bus but we were only people backstage hanging out and I have to say those guys were top notch blokes!!!
Dang! I would have been a hell of a lot more excited to see Joe J in 1980. I don't know anyone who would have been able to just sit there like that.
Their energy lightning bolts through the decades! Thanks guys! Crazy fun!!!!
What great musicians. .
God, he's so good. That band is so good.
Graham Maby rules
Graham Maby 👍👍👍🙂
Saw this tour-Great Adventure-Jackson, NJ-summer 1980......JJ was amazing
Joe is really selling it ... very impassioned. Such a great band ... Maby is such an originator but I always thought Dave Houghton's chops were so tight and Sanford's playing was very melodic and inventive for the style. Such a great band. What a great ending.
man that guy and band with so much just pure energy
What band....loved them from day 1.
Holy Shit I wish I was there to see this live. My favorite Joe Jackson tune. Loved his attitude back then.
I've known Joe Jackson for many years, but I didn't know he was so good live. Thanks for uploading.
You da man! So much energy.
holy shit this owns
Beat crazy one of my favorite teenage records, love
Joe.
I’m 47 and have never herd this song before despite the fact that I appreciate Joe Jackson.
Holy shit, this is a damn good song!
How is that possible?
Its the title track to his epinymous sophmore effort which TOPPED his first- Look Sharp.
Oh Yeah! Just hop into the time machine and check out this concert, maybe we could bring to appreciation to this crowd!
Ripping that bass ♫♪♫♥♥♥♫♪♫
This just makes me smile. :)

Bill Hicks? Good point! This song is a great commentary on crass commercialism and the herd mentality - AND it rocks with the best of them.
Is anyone here in marketing.....
I worship at the Church of Bill Hicks....and the irony of that comment cracks me up!
They were German.
Been hunting for this song for years, first heard it when Hep Alien covered it in the Gilmore girls. Think I found a new favorite band.
I love this...this really is the man
Gary Sanford is so bloody good
Simply brilliant.
Graham is one of my favorites with Pete Townshend and Steve Harris. Monumental. Monsters of Bass.
John Entwistle, niet Pete. Ook goed, maar minder op bass.
That was a great show
I love this! Thank you for sharing, man.
Best version of this song ever
Just great ..!!!
3:18 - 3:26 I'm in stitches at the falling cymbal hahah
You have to have confidence as a guitar player when you're playing with the outstanding Graham Maby.
I remember being skinny in 1980 too!
Yeah its 2021 and I'm skinny af , gotta love yayo
Many thanks for all, Joe and Graham, incredibles artists !

An American Saturday morning program called Hot Hero Sandwich had Joe on frequently.
Buck-O-9 does an amazing cover of this.
I LOVE how ornery he were! I've heard stories and have my own lol
Pretty F.ing amazing

I saw him live about 11 months later in Syracuse, NY. He had pockets full of carrot sticks and he threw some at the audience.
Did anyone see him in central park, NY??
