Thomas... I weighed 420 pounds in 2020 when i had a heart attack. I was 35, I realize now i was trying to kill myself with food. After my entire family went on a keto diet, i started learning about it from you and others. And on Feb 2nd 2023 i decided to change my life. I'm down to 350 pounds in just a couple of months. I feel 1000x better and i'm no longer depressed. On top of all that my diabetes is completely under control and i'm off insulin. I was on over 100 units. Thank you Thomas for helping save my life. I'm 100% commited to losing it all. Your videos help me stay on the right path and i want to lose it all just like you.

When you diet, you tend to find all the weight you lose again within a year or less because it slows the metabolism and does not shrink the stomach. When you do some 36-96 h fasts, you will lose the weight and never find it again because it shrinks the stomach (which is where ghrelin the hunger hormone comes from) and doesn't slow the metabolism in that short period. Some of the many benefits of doing occasional extended fasting: Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. High blood pressure is lowered to normal levels very quickly while fasting. Fribrosis/scarring is reversed over time.
      Fasting increases nitric oxide release.
Vitamin D plasma levels are increased as fasting improves metabolic health, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy.
Telomeres are lengthend and fasting also increases anti-aging Yamanaka factors.
Reflexes and short term memory are increased.
Fasts from 36-96 h actually INCREASE metabolic rate due to norepinephrine release!
After 72 hours or more fasted, your body recycles as much as 1/3 of all immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire immune system.
Fasting can help with MS, Depression, BPD, Autism and seizures.
Thymus is regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. The thymus also plays a vital role in fighting cancer.
Weight loss from daily caloric restriction has 1/4 to 1/3 of the weight lost as lean tissue while many studies show fat loss from 36 h fasts without losing any lean tissue! The hunger hormone ghrelin also lowers with extended fasting and rises from dieting.
Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus.
When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state.
What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast, though if the amount is tiny you will go back into ketosis very quickly. Most teas and herbs are OK. Most supplements and meds will either break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Many medications are dangerous to take while fasting so you may have to talk to your dr. about discontinuing them during a fast.
Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone. Fasting also increases insulin sensitivity, which helps with muscle building.
The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again!
Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No, except for brief periods of very intense exercise, your body mainly burns fats in the form of free fatty acids. Your brain also prefers to burn ketones at a rate of around 2.5 to 1 when they are available in equal quantity to glucose.
Fasting stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses.
Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. When not in ketosis, the brain can only burn carbohydrate, which produces a great deal of damaging ROS the brain has to deal with.
It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention!
When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells, which destroys them. Senescent cells are responsible for many of the effects of aging and are a root cause of the development of cancer.
Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth. This can help a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers.
In fact, the biochemical regulator of BDNF production is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting.
Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level.
A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row also provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and extremely low carbs.
Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia.
Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Those with Addison's disease may also be unable to fast without liberal use of exogenous ketones, depending on severity. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness then simply break the fast and seek advice.

Congratulations on the great weight loss!! However truly duve into further into the long-term effects of such a heavily carnivore diet. There is such high levels of toxicity in the meat in all animals. I used to be a big meat eater & did the research. Not to mention the quality of life of these animals is atrocious plus right before they are slaughtered they are literally scared to death....which then makes their bodies very toxic. Guess what? We end up eating all those toxins.
Wait there's more!!!! Many stores are also using food dyes to make the meat look even more appealing to the eye. Especially red meats.
Trust me, I didn't change in 1 day to no meat. However, the more I researched & documentaries I saw on the quality of the meat people are eating, it will really open your eyes to what we don't see.
Start with some documentaries like forks over knives, Dominion, Cowspiracy, Vegeducated, Meat your Meat, Food Inc. The Engine 2 Kitchen Rescue
( part 2 of forks over knives)
That should be a good start for you. This next stage of your journey will make a massive change in your life. It has for me & for all those that keep am open mind to what's rrally going on in this big business of meat agriculture.

I have to say I just switched to a “low carb” diet two weeks ago (mainly only consuming low GI carbs), and you hit the nail on the head about the moodiness.. the biggest difference I noticed in myself is that Im not as hangry and irritated all the time. It’s almost shocking how much I feel like a different person. I’m also not as bloated as I used to be. And surprisingly I don’t even really crave high GI carbs anymore. Sorry, this video is bs.. on day 59 of keto, no cheats. I am doing this to drop my blood sugar levels with no medication. As for urination, constantly including at night..three or four times a night. Yes, lots of water, black tea in the morning and grean tea at night. About 8 cups a day, large ones along with full glass of water between each. As for cravings, occasionally but never succumbed to it. Had a full blood physical at 4 weeks, and another fasting physical in 4 days to check my blood. As for carbs, a huge reduction from before I started, total carbs around 50 pee day now with net carbs around 25. Carbs coming from blueberry Greek yogurt chia/flax mea, then broccoli cauliflower Brussels sprouts or cabbage soup during the day. Yes nine weeks of cabbage soup. Waist, slightly less, weight down 20 lbs at 4 week point. Skin issue are main reason for the monthly physicals, I have psoriasis and bad psoriatic arthritis. I work out daily for 2 hours still between walking 6.5 miles and weight lifting. Some days are painful but I get it done, so with calorie/carb reduction I expected greater results. Haven't seen them. Have seen grocery expense double due to the cost of certain foods, no sugar greek yogurt, no sugar almond milk, cheese, meats, nuts, vegetables and blueberries. As for cognitive, no change. Mood swings, no change. If you cared 57 year old male fighting to stay of meds.

I feel no hunger ever at all. I am free fron this curse that haunted me for 47 years. I am switched on now, I was sleeping for 47 years.

So I don't know how it feels like to be hungry, at all. An easy basic rule is if the item contains added sugar or contains flour as an ingredient then its a refined grain (bread, pasta, cookies, cake, desserts etc).
High carb foods that aren't refined are:
Potatoes, root vegetables, beans, rice, fruit.
(These still high in carbohydrates but if they are in their whole unrefined form, then the carbs are bound to fibre and often water so the digestion is slightly slower. Still not suitable for keto. BUT they aren't technically a refined carbohydrate, so could be included in a healthy diet depending on your health goals)
Personally I would say go completely grain free and so would also avoid rice 😊

The most effective thing you can do for pre diabetics is lose weight and fasting regimen.
Secondly, coffee is good, bulletproof coffee and teas as well. But the energy drinks cannot be good for you at all.
Also are you having caffeine before bed? That can destroy your sleep quality which will throw your hormones off wack and cause you to retain fat. Fat actually acts as an organ because it signals to the rest of the body.
