  • In this video I go over how to root and grow an Alocasia from a Corm and I repot an Alocasia as well. I found some corms in the soil and I show you step by step on how I root and grow an alocasia from the beginning. I also show you some corms I have rooting and a successful propagation back into the mother plant.
    If you have any alocasia questions let me know in the comments! I'll follow up this video with an update!

    I brought a 'dormant' silver dragon for $5. After months of nothing I finally checked the roots and it was dead. BUT I found 5 corms! I wish I found your video sooner but I think I did good. My $5 dead plant gave me 5 babies and all of them are growing wonderfully now! 😊

    I just put my corms in a jar & filled up the jar with just enough water to almost cover the corms. It’s been almost a month & now they are sprouting just like yours have roots!! I can’t wait to plant them into pots once their roots are long enough :))

    I just got my first Alocasia and purposefully bought one that I saw at least one corm in (when I know I’ll inevitably k!ll this first one😢). Probably looked like a crazy lady in Lowe’s digging around a bit in the soil LOL. So excited for these corms to sprout and try them in pon!

    After 2 years I FINALLY got the nerve to check my first and only Ally for corms. Scooped her up from Home Depot so I'm guessing it's nothing fancy. Anywho, the durn thing has been giving me heartburn since day one, she'll attempt to push out a fourth leaf, it'll unfurl, firm and boom a leaf dies. Silly thing doesn't like having more than three leafs🤔. So I find five TINY corms...Well, one was a stick, two dirt clods and two corms, yay! I busted the root off one and scratched the bah-jeebers outta the other one, wish me luck 🥲

    Yoow finding corms is really like a treasure hunting experience. It is my first time repotting my alocasia sanderiana as it already has grown so huge with little babies around it. While checking the roots, I found these little bulbs in the soil and said, wait a minute... I am sure I saw a vid in yt about corms. Gotta check it out! And here I am, watching your vid because I am not really familiar with alocasias 😂. Thank you so much for this vid. I learned a lot.

    In your closet, what do you keep inside it to promote moisture? I’ve been really interested in getting one! I’m assuming you have a grow light of some kind .. do the plants make their own tropic- like environment or do you encourage it someway with a humidifier? And does it hurt any of your alocasias, how do your velvety ones do in the closet? Thanks! I’d love some tips!!

    I know I am a little late to the party, but I just stumbled on your video. I have corms in a little Tupperware terrarium growing in moss. They look fantastic so far, however today I noticed little itty bitty white dots. And then saw a little crawler. Are they good bugs or spider mites? I know you would not know without seeing first hand- but have you experienced this. I’m about ready to take them out and toss the moss and plant in dirt.

    Can we also mention that Alocasia "juice" is irritating on the skin. I propagated my Silver Dragon a couple of weeks ago for the first time and didn't think to wash my hands after handling the corms before touching my neck. My neck flamed up in an angry red which lasted for a few hours. Scrubbed in cold soapy water to get it off and stop the irritation as soon as I realized it was irritating my skin, but still took a couple of hours for the itching and redness to go away. love my dragon, but her babies hate me.

    How long does it take a corm to produce leaves? And will they produce during the Winter months or are they dormant in Winter?

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say this depends on the environment they're in - if you are giving them great light + humidity year round then they should still grow for you. Some plants will still go dormant though. Mine usually give me a new leaf about 3-4 weeks!

    Just as a note for anyone about to attempt this process: WEAR GLOVES especially if you tend to be allergen sensitive, the SAP of alocasia is toxic and if you have it on tour fingers and happen to scratch yourself YOU WILL REGRET IT. A thorough wash will help but its painful when it happens. Be safe!
