My guess for why the front sometimes takes 3 shots: When you're hitting the back legs, the splash damage from the explosion is also hitting the soft spot. When you're hitting the front legs, you're only hitting the legs/leg armour.
@@mongolianlambhoof gotta leave and rejoin, i.e. stop the game on steam and restart. Do not trust in the stupid count down thing. Normally takes my group about 3-5 tries and we're in.
Railgun doesn't take your backpack slot and can take off armor from the front (even straight kill them with two shots to the legs sometimes)... it's still a far better weapon.
I think this lends further credence to the hitbox desync theory. The splash gives a higher chance for auto cannon shots to hit the soft spots during the frames where the armor hitboxes are in the wrong place.
I could be completely wrong, but I think some of the inconsistency, especially when aiming for joints, is just armor deflection angle. When aiming at the rear legs and it's facing away from you the armor on the leg almost makes a v shape, so shooting the outside (slope facing away from the charger) part of the leg has a less favorable angle than shooting the part that's inside (slope facing the charger) after it's charged past you. This is also most likely why it's nearly impossible to do anything to it from the front, because when it's facing directly at you so much of that very thick armor is sloping up and to the sides, making it basically impenetrable to anything short of stratagems, rockets, autocannon turrets, or railguns. It should also be noted that if *any* of the armor (legs, back, side, whatever) has been destroyed, shooting that part with any weapon does a lot of damage to it. So if you miss a shot with a rocket launcher but still hit its side, aim for the exposed side anyways with your primary.

Idk if it was intended or not but autocannon turret is still the best turret for dealing with heavy armored enemies while the autocannon as a support weapon just bounces off most of the armor spots. I wouldn't think an explosive round from a contact explosive would bounce is why I assume it's a bug or unintended feature. I love how much damage it does and that it's ammo cap is insane but for taking up my support and backpack slots, I would like it to deal with heavy armor a little better than bouncing off instead of having a turret do it better.
Turrets a larger cannon...but yea...an He round vs something in AP....armor piercing cannon rounds exist...and being a "cannon" they usually still go boom.
Grenades from the launcher will ricochet as well if they hit a target too soon after firing. Both the autocannon and grenade launcher seem to have fuse timers on their projectiles
If you can get the drop on them, you can one shot Chargers with the Spear. You need to be facing the front though, and it can be aggro’d. The missile once locked on will remove its head in one shot, killing it outright.
This is my method. I have one shot a bile titan too. If you wait until it charges the "spit attack" it is much easier to hit the head and is a one shot.
Got myself the autocannon and KNEW I could use it against Charges, but I didn't know how. @@krymz1 maybe they mean there is no difference when not fully charging, hence same damage but faster, so dps increase. so charging isn't worth it in their experience
Do you have a good way to kill chargers with the Arc Thrower? I really like the weapon but chargers give me trouble with it especially when there are 3 or 4 around, it immediately becomes "Orbital time" lol
@@DarkZemX if you are two people with ark thrower you can kill him before he gets you in about 30m distance (keep in mind that max range of Arc thower is somewhere between 50-60m, its a bit finicky) Solo at full range you can take them out after dodging the first charge, the problem is when you have 6 on your ass in helldive Personally if we are a team of 3 with my buddies we legit just shoot them and dodge out of the way, easily killed 3 in less than 30 seconds, but solo its much harder, so orbital time it is The thing is at helldive there is so much shit you need to rely on yourself, since the orbital either has longer cooldown or much longer deployment time As a nice pro tip, the 500kg bomb wont kill you at point blank if your shield is active, it will just break the shield, same for precision orbital strike, so stay close but make sure you dont get hit so your shield is active Oh one last thing, aim for headshots, they do count with the Ark thrower
You can quick kill the bile titan with mouth shots (2 I believe, sometimes got 1. so two might have been a bad shot or damaged enough.) with the auto cannon and rail gun. The leg appendage can be taken out by AMR/AC, but the platting in the front is heavy armor pen only.
Fyi. When facing. Abuoem titan from the front, thos too little mandible things inbetween it's two front legs can be damaged by the AC. The damage is equivalent to shooting the big orange thing at its back but it causes the charger to stumble, making it really useful for running

As an auto cannon main all the way back in Malevolon Creek, this does put a smile on my face. Everyone is so focused on how hood the railgun is thst they forget how good everything else is
Try practicing with 1v1 duels right after it charges at you (and not someone else). I tend to notice a higher ricochet chance when it's not aggroed on me or not during the short window of opportunity right after a charge. With more encounters, the more it feels like there's only a select set of animations/timings that allow the shells to penetrate but I can't be 100% sure on this.
@@udonlarge I noticed that last bit as well. I have yet to hit it unless it charges directly at me. Even a stationary charger looking at someone else. Perhaps there is some counter or punish windows baked into the AI that give better damage output/penetration? Either way I will try this a bit more with 1v1s. Thank you for the input!
Im just saying since the auto canon will take your backpack or a friends back pack slot. It should be like the sentry and damage armor. Even if it takes a full 6-8 shots to the face. It should be dooable.
I run AC with engineer armor (one that gives you crouch prone/recoil bonus) and just dive the inital charge behind and you can pop the abdomen in like 5 or 6 spammed shots which is very easy with the recoil reduction. I may give this a shot but it might be patched later so I wont crutch on it too hard.
I don't know if it was a bug but last night the autocannon was having absolutely zero effect on chargers. I would unload an entire mag on one leg and it just kept bouncing off.
I usually use the Railgun and nail 2 or 3 shots into its front leg of choice. Or EAT if you hit right. But knowing I can with this to helps since I enjoy the auto cannon more then those
This trick instantly shot up the autocannon into S-tier in bug missions for me. The only single thing that it can't do is killing Bile titans but my teammates would be running Railgun like 90% of the time anyway so i'd rather just have the autocannon for killing Chargers in 2-3 shots, semi-crowd control tool (still loses out to the Grenade Launcher), and closing bug holes.
I noticed that there are sometimes elite versions of certain enemies, could this be the case? Only noticed bile titans and chargers. Chargers have more noticeable tusks on the front when elite, a bile titan elite will take like 12 railgun shots to the face, idk what sets it apart but it’s the theory I’m working with rn because those titans are usually the mission related ones.
I've never felt a noticeable difference visually or gameplay wise between Bile Titans and they usually go down after an oribtial railcannon strike combined with a 110mm eagle so I can't speak on that (and I don't run the Railgun). As for the Charger variant which is mostly found on lower level kill missions, this theory of animation vulnerability still applies and I've had success using it against them.
Two railgun shots to the face of a Bile Titan from distance. One shot right before he spews with mouth open. [Safe on] Overcharged shot [Safe off] to the face will net a one shot kill. Railgun best option especially at higher levels.

I really don't understand this. after over an hour of testing, I have like a 5% success rate tried waiting for various recovery periods after a charge, different angles, different legs, just bounces 95% of the time. starting to think this might be also tied to specific frame rates or something. was this tested on PC or playstion?

Meaning this strategy works for 100% of PS5 users, anyone with a PC as weak or weaker than a PS5, or anyone who for some reason willingly capped their PC fps to between 30 and 60 fps. Yes. If the front leg has already been damaged with the AC once, you should be able get the 2nd/3rd shot through at any other angle. You'll see the visual cue of exploding green flesh if the shell gets through, else it's just a ricochet.

While a auto cannon is nice and all, railgun is better choice since you can dispose chargers safetly from range before advancing quicker even before it starts charging. Especially when a turret is in it's vicinity the charger ignores everything and straight up launches itself upon turrets. But autocannon rocks in crowd control and bug closing so much. Definitely a railgun plus autocannon side by side will make a squar unstoppable.

The first shot needs to be from the back to damage the leg armor. You'll see green flesh exploding if the shell makes contact. The second shot onwards on that leg can be from any angle, even the front because the armor that normally deflects the shells has been damaged. If you don't damage the armor first then any shots from the front will just bounce off.
I've been having extreme difficulty in the last few days. I believe server lag is a large component for successful hits. Lately Chargers have been ice skating after charges...
The arc thrower is another option, but you need to be patient. Nice thing is, while you're working on the bile titan you're also chaining your shots to the fodder beneath/near them. That weapon's great for handling multiple things at once.
Yes, but you don't have to aim for the back with the Railgun - any angle will do. Most people do 2 shots to the front of the same leg to shred the plate then finish it off with a mag dump from your normal weapon.
For me I think the Autocannon is best against the Bots and the Railgun is best for them damn bugs. The autocannos just is so usefull because it stops the bots from shooting even if is just hits them lightly. Bugs just need the Railgun to get loose some heads and legs.
That still works fine aswell. It's just more for if you have to use your small weapons or something like a machinegun. And it will take longer. It just turns out that taking a leg off of something that mostly just runs at you and is super heavy is a great way to get it to stop moving.

I think the EAT is king until the rail gun. One shot from any angle and a very short cd that summons 2 is unbeatable. Recoiless requires a back slot and makes you stationary while reloading. Having a teammate assist takes them out of the fight.
AC is medium armor penetrating. So it has a high chance of going through the legs, but not the head (the railgun and AT rockets can). If you dont want to carry anything better then I guess its a solid choice
@makoz9559 Easiest pod kills are from reinforcements and having a teammate spot the titan for you so it's easy to line up..especially in fog/shroom maps.

Grenades from the launcher will ricochet as well if they hit a target too soon after firing. Both the autocannon and grenade launcher seem to have fuse timers on their projectiles
The handheld Autocannon probably has a lower velocity round so it doesn't break the helldiver's arm
Shots just kept pinging off the legs, so I switched back to using the recoilless rifle and going for head shots. Worked decently, but ultimately means I have one slot dedicated purely to chargers. This video is EXACTLY what I needed to see. Gonna be bringing the autocannon on my next deployment now!
I'm more of a Railgun guy because i like to use a drone as a backpack, but it's the same principle. Nice video!
Railgun doesn't ricochet on heavy armor though

I might be crazy but my autocannon shots to the legs just bounces right off. Any idea why this might be happening?
Try performing the shots in 1v1 situations after a direct charge. I'm still testing another theory that the vulnerability of the leg may be tied to specific animation timings rather than the angle but can't say for sure yet.
@@udonlarge keep us updated, thank you for your service.
@@ivanwong1968 I've done a bit more testing and it seems the animation theory does carry some validity, I've pinned the explanation at the top.
Same issue for me, never worked :/
Thx for the detailed explanation because Elbethium would not explain anything as to why this works and doesn’t. Definitely will be using auto cannon more now altho it seems Expendable rockets would still be useful to do damage to charger attacking a teammate since this only works if they charge you specifically.
Used to usee the Autocannon, then i made the SHARC build, i would actually love for you to test it out
-Shield backpack
-Arc thrower
The Arc thrower has infinite ammo, does pure damage, can break body parts, and absolutely loves to team kill, it can take out a bile titan with 3 shots to the face (insane i know, but i have the footage), me and 2 others with this build took on an entire bug breach on helldive and they didn't make it out of the initial spawn area
Now for the test i would love for you to make, is there a difference between fully charging it or spam shooting it, from what i saw there is no difference and about 70% DPS increase
uh....70% DPS increase is a notable difference
@@krymz1 maybe they mean there is no difference when not fully charging, hence same damage but faster, so dps increase. so charging isn't worth it in their experience
Do you have a good way to kill chargers with the Arc Thrower? I really like the weapon but chargers give me trouble with it especially when there are 3 or 4 around, it immediately becomes "Orbital time" lol
@@krymz1 sorry i ment no damage difference between full charge and half charge, but its almost twice as fast if you do it perfectly
@@DarkZemX if you are two people with ark thrower you can kill him before he gets you in about 30m distance (keep in mind that max range of Arc thower is somewhere between 50-60m, its a bit finicky)
Solo at full range you can take them out after dodging the first charge, the problem is when you have 6 on your ass in helldive
Personally if we are a team of 3 with my buddies we legit just shoot them and dodge out of the way, easily killed 3 in less than 30 seconds, but solo its much harder, so orbital time it is
The thing is at helldive there is so much shit you need to rely on yourself, since the orbital either has longer cooldown or much longer deployment time
As a nice pro tip, the 500kg bomb wont kill you at point blank if your shield is active, it will just break the shield, same for precision orbital strike, so stay close but make sure you dont get hit so your shield is active
Oh one last thing, aim for headshots, they do count with the Ark thrower
You can quick kill the bile titan with mouth shots (2 I believe, sometimes got 1. so two might have been a bad shot or damaged enough.) with the auto cannon and rail gun.
The leg appendage can be taken out by AMR/AC, but the platting in the front is heavy armor pen only.
Thank you for this. I wasnt even sure the autocannon could kill one of these things. My autocannon shots kept bouncing off.
Fyi. When facing. Abuoem titan from the front, thos too little mandible things inbetween it's two front legs can be damaged by the AC. The damage is equivalent to shooting the big orange thing at its back but it causes the charger to stumble, making it really useful for running
this will help greatly with the railgun nerf ty for the knowledge
Perhaps the backs of the legs are more vulnerable than the front? which is why it seems front legs take more shots
Oh thank god you found how to kill one with the autocannon. I thought I was doomed to take the recoilless every time one was around
I've one shot a few bile titans before with the railgun getting the perfect angle into its mouth when it opens it just casually walking. Are you able to test this with the auto cannon?
you can absolutely discombobulate that fuckers jaw with the rail on the first shot
Super helpful! Thank you
I love the autocannon but can't for the life of me figure out the chargers takedown. no matter what I do where I hit it how many times I can't figure out the leg takedown.
Success isn't based on angles or "just shoot at the leg anytime", but rather specific animation window timings where the leg armor "turns off" (check video description for the other video). If you're trying to get rounds in outside of those animations, they will probably just bounce off. Even then, it isn't a 100% success rate because it is speculated to be a hitbox desync bug rather than intentional. If you fail, wait for the next charge and try again.
Try it in 1v1 situations and wait for the charge where it skids to a stop with no side swipes. Dodge it and swing around to put rounds in the closest leg (usually a rear). You don't have to wait for it to start turning around, just wait till it finishes skidding. Once you get it a few times you'll start understanding the timings.
As an auto cannon main all the way back in Malevolon Creek, this does put a smile on my face. Everyone is so focused on how hood the railgun is thst they forget how good everything else is
Any tips for hitting this reliably? I feel i often just get the ricochet even when hitting directly from behind
But knowing I can with this to helps since I enjoy the auto cannon more then those
I just wish it was a lil more consistent
Post patch my shot is legit bouncing off his leg with AC? I don't understand
This trick instantly shot up the autocannon into S-tier in bug missions for me. The only single thing that it can't do is killing Bile titans but my teammates would be running Railgun like 90% of the time anyway so i'd rather just have the autocannon for killing Chargers in 2-3 shots, semi-crowd control tool (still loses out to the Grenade Launcher), and closing bug holes.
a bile titan in my game stepped on a hellbomb (or spit on it) and nuked him self lol. didnt know bile spewers can do the same
I noticed that there are sometimes elite versions of certain enemies, could this be the case?
[Safe on]
Overcharged shot [Safe off] to the face will net a one shot kill.
Railgun best option especially at higher levels.

I really don't understand this. after over an hour of testing, I have like a 5% success rate
tried waiting for various recovery periods after a charge, different angles, different legs, just bounces 95% of the time. starting to think this might be also tied to specific frame rates or something. was this tested on PC or playstion?
its just a practice thing. i love AC and don't want the Railshield meta crutch, so I've managed to do it pretty reliably to chargers
PS5 and PC are the same. Works on both. Watch video again and read what he’s saying carefully, it’s animation timing
@@xikaryo6735 I have, and it's not 100% of the puzzle. I didn't do one mission and decide "nope doesn't work" hell, watch his other video where he tests every weapon against the animation frames, the window seems to be insanely large, but i cannot get it to replicate.
I just went back for more testing of lowering the maximum fps cap, and it does make a rather large difference. somewhere between 30 and 60 fps, the success rate is nearly perfect. so this is indeed a strat that works for every PS5 user, and anyone with a PC about as weak as the ps5, or people that lower their fps that low for some reason.
went back more and did further testing. I'd need more runs to make a 100% assertion, but I feel I was correct. Using NVIDIA manager to cap the maximum fps to 60 greatly increased the success rate. Lowering it to 30fps nearly made it 100%.. Meaning this strategy works for 100% of PS5 users, anyone with a PC as weak or weaker than a PS5, or anyone who for some reason willingly capped their PC fps to between 30 and 60 fps. So a good amount of physics and hitbox detection happens on the client side according to their fps, in theory.@@xikaryo6735

Deal with the rest of the swarm first before taking your time with this to practice or you'll most likely end up frustrated from the annoyance of the smaller mobs or a bug breach. I usually test on difficulty 7 as there's a balance between mob density and a high chance of finding Chargers.

I've unloaded clip after clip into their front legs. So it has to be back first? Then front?
Yes. I've never had first shot success on a non-damaged frontal hit other than an interesting outlier that proved otherwise when 2 of his back legs had already been damaged with 1 shot (cumulative armor % damage maybe). If the front leg has already been damaged with the AC once, you should be able get the 2nd/3rd shot through at any other angle. Edit: If you mean it has to be the back 2 legs being targeted first then no - any leg of your choice should have an equal chance as long as the angle is right and the first shot is from the rear/underside of that particular leg.
You'll see the visual cue of exploding green flesh if the shell gets through, else it's just a ricochet.
Titan, Orbital Railcannon Strike, Autocannon can shoot in the wound in the back from distance, 2-3 shots. Railcannon Headshots prevent the Titan from puking, shot right before he pukes. Railcannon Autocannon Duo is just great. 2 Railcannon shots in Chargers Leg and any Wapon can finish of.

While a auto cannon is nice and all, railgun is better choice since you can dispose chargers safetly from range before advancing quicker even before it starts charging.
Especially when a turret is in it's vicinity the charger ignores everything and straight up launches itself upon turrets.

Very interesting but i gotta ask: why auto cannon? Railgun does the same job and allows you a backpack

0:49 shots front plate , 1:52 tells me to dont shot front plate , i know i am dumb but please explain the difference here , still like & sub from my side
Idk if this got patched but I can’t to that. My shots bounce off
I've been having extreme difficulty in the last few days. I believe server lag is a large component for successful hits. Lately Chargers have been ice skating after charges...

How are you supposed to beat bile titans without the railgun or air strikes?
The arc thrower is another option, but you need to be patient. Nice thing is, while you're working on the bile titan you're also chaining your shots to the fodder beneath/near them. That weapon's great for handling multiple things at once.
With railgun, can do same estrategy?
Yes, but you don't have to aim for the back with the Railgun - any angle will do. Most people do 2 shots to the front of the same leg to shred the plate then finish it off with a mag dump from your normal weapon.
so first shot has to be at the back of the leg for it to work?
From my experience yeah it has to be at the back or close to unless the leg was already damaged in which case any angle should get through.

Aiming for the joints is a bit much for an autocannon. Doesn't exactly have pinpoint accuracy.
Sure it does.
You can kill a bile titan with an autocannon with two shots to the back-abdomen, to blow up his puke sack, and then orbital rail cannon will finish him off.
