It turns out that nearly ALL Euro-caucasion descended cultures have pipes of some sorts in their musical heritages. They can be seen in the Scandanavian, British Isles, Russia and a lot of western continental Europe. They tie a lot of cultures together. You're right. Pipes give the chills

To the owner of this video and the parents of the young piper: My 2 year old has become obsessed with Bagpipes since his Aunty brought him some back from Scotland. We have watched this video upwards of 100 times since we’ve been in isolation due to the Covid-19 pandemic. My son misses his friends so much and every time we’re near the tv he asks to listen to ‘little boy’ on the bagpipes. Thank you for sharing this and bringing a little bit of joy to my sons day in these unusual times!

@@kattkatt5564 I nearly came home from Scotland with a cheap set of pipes when I was a teenager. Seeing the Edinburough Tattoo for the first time can have that kind of impact... my parents talked me out of it on grounds I wouldn't be allowed to practice indoors. Then my stepdad bought me a chanter for Christmas, which I messed around with but never really learned properly because I decided I didn't have time to do both flute and bagpipes properly, and I was already up to my eyeballs in flute.

Wonderful story. Thanks for sharing. Something good from Covid. Your wee man loving the Pipes. It's great if they start young. Me granddad played the Pipes, and I was hooked early. Listening, not playing. Too expensive for our family. Me Mum's and Dad's parents and me Mum and oldest Sister, born in Glasgow, Dad in Edinburgh. All moved to Canada, where my twin Sisters were born, then Mum and Dad and sisters and my Dad's parents all moved to Chicago Illinois, United States, where my brother and I were born. I grew up feeling cheated man. Would have loved to been born and lived in Scotland. After I went to visit my grands and Uncles Aunts and cousins in Canada, I was even more angry I wasn't even born in Canada. Spent summers there. Loved it ! But me Mum joined the SCS and we got to go to lots of events where Pipers played and there were Scottish Highland Games held in at Grant Park, downtown Chicago. We all went every year. I became really great at the games, and loved being around my people. Nothing like it ! I joined the SCS too. There was one weekend, Games at Grant Park ,it was really foggy, you could barely see. There was a Pipe Band battle that year. Thing was, you could here the Pipes and Drums, but ya couldney see them ! It was eerie man. You could hear them massing. The last band to play, was my favorite. So I hear the orders givin. Now a mist is coming of the lake, I hear my band, as they get close, the fog clears ahead of them,as they march past me, the front rows you can see, the mid to end, coming out of the fog and mist ! The hairs on the back of me neck rose, as I watched them come out of the fog ! I get choked up, just remembering it ! Me band won the battle. The fog and mist likey sealed it. Like the were transported from Scotland, and came out the fog ! Bought me a Scottish lace table cloth, and we headed to the Kaleigh across from the Park, held at the Hilton Hotel Grand Ballroom, on famous Michigan Ave. We danced and sang the whole night. I was me Mum's partner, me Dad having left when I was 5. One of the greatest days of my life ! They then moved the Highland Games out west to Oak Brook, where I would shine at the games. Only my oldest sister made it back to Scotland via Ireland. Glad you and yours made it through the Covid lockdown. My best to you and your son too. Scotland Forever !

      Still love the pipes though!
When the King of Thailand died a couple years ago (a Buddhist country), THEY even had a piper playing Amazing Grace in the procession!

Yes. There was a Gaelic people in the Scottish Highlands and the Highland Bagpipes (or Irish warpipes) were a part of their culture. They were defeated by Britain and the rest of Scotland (and some clans) in the 1600s and scattered in the Highland clearances. Their traditional dress and instruments were made illegal.
Years later, inspired by art works depicting the Gaelic Highlanders, the Scottish began to use kilts and bagpipes, and they both became an integral part of Scotlands culture.

This was so great. My dad was in the Canadian army and I'm pretty sure I was weaned on pipe music.
I've never been to any of the Scottish festivals. There are quite a few here around London, Ontario; from what I've been told the one in Fergus is the best around here. Of course, the Mother of them all is the festival in Edinburgh. If this covid-19 ever gets somewhat better and countries open up their borders then I'll go especially while I can still walk.
I worked for the British Army in Suffield, AB (near Medicine Hat). You may know of it as Canmore's not that far away. The Sgt.'s mess was right next to the Officers' Quarters and one summer there was a young piper from the Black Watch. My boss always knew where to find me in the afternoon - sitting out on the Mess's porch listening to the young man play.
Thanks so much for the entertainment.

very happy to see the games return to Canmore, beautiful town, love the mountains. The games were great but have been there with the whole field full of pipers nothing as grand as the mountains ringing out with over 300 pipers.

I played the snare drum in a pipe band for a couple of years when I was around 14 & 15 - and I loved it. Wish I could still play, love drumming. We still go to any Highland Games we can, was sorry they were cancelled for this year because of Covid.
