I miss when they included maps, posters, pictures, notes and manuals. Some manuals even had jokes and other messages that gave it that human touch to it, physical used to be so good.

Physically media will always be around no matter what to the very end. We will do are best to replace and fix are stuff if possible. From dvd,blue-ray,4k,cds,vinyl and video games and also never to forget books history, conspiracy books, comic books manga books, statue figure, game cards and anime cards and including poster. Physical media will always be here you just have to search. Nothing last forever including yourself but the experience of these beautiful things its good. Never forget us.

    I 100% support physical media.
In terms of physical media being phased out, it's probably one of the major reasons why GameStop is doing their 'Retro' store.
I do agree it's a bit disappointing that games these days are often released unfinished and require a massive Day 1 patch.
The problem with retro games these days is how most vendors and resellers will jack up the price like crazy.

Take me back to the early 90s! We had the Megadrive/Genesis and Snes still in circulation, the Ps1, Saturn, N64, 3DO, Jaguar, heck even the PC Engine/Turbo Grafx still doing its thing, there was so much variety, competion within the industry...I'd rather have a bookcase full of that stuff than a hard drive full of digital any day.

The Xbox 360/PS3 era is the best/last era to be great as "physical games" goes, maybe the PS4/Xbox One too. Having physical copies of your games gives you full ownership of it and it's pretty cool to look at them. I just don't want to hoard them, I recently cleaned out my collection of "junk games" that I felt like unworthy, wasn't complete or have ugly scratches but I will always keep the ones that matters!

Recently got Rygar for my PS2 and Urban Chaos for my Xbox. I think that it was set up by design for the current physical games to be decent at best but with the day-one patches and all being very annoying. To me the 360/PS3 is the last for full content on the discs.

The time has finally come where the last few PS5 new releases I wanted to pick up were nowhere to be found locally. With this digital-only mindset and multiplayer first focus, now is a great time to visit the older generations and play all the amazing games you may have missed out on. I recently spent $100 on a PS3 with a stack of games and have been having so much fun. I honestly forgot how good the PS3/XB360 generation was.

  • @Biggsmech

Old physical games are awesome just some of the prices are crazy now but other than that the games are great. New physical games that actually have the 1.0 version on the disc(s) or an ultimate edition with every thing on disc are awesome but they are few and far between and harder to actually find. But the ones that are basically an access key or a code in the box are insulting and pointless. Unfortunately unfinished games seem like an industry standard. But i could live with them if they released those digital only. And after all patches, updates, and bug fixes. Then would offer physical definitive editions 6-12 months later would satisfy all gamers. They could also just do pre-orders of those versions so they don’t produce more than physical media people want and waste money. It would be a win for everyone involved. I support indie games digitally because a lot of them don’t have the resources for physical versions. But if the best ones get enough digital support then they could do limited physical runs after getting the digital revenue and that’s good for everyone also.

Me and were talking about The Chronicle of Riddick chronology a few days ago. It led to me asking had he played the games. He hadn't, but knew about them. So him still having a 360 and me having a copy of Assault on Dark Athena. I let him borrow it. When I handed it to him I said " oh yea. Escape from Butcher Bay is also on there." (I purposely left that out until giving him the game) He said " I want be able to play because xbox live is dead on 360." I said " my dear friend. Your in luck. Because it's all on disc. Both games are available at the menu screen. No code or download required. " He looked at me and replied. " Man things have changed. I miss those days. " A statement so simple, but yet so powerful

For me it boils down to; can I take an old cartridge/cd plop it into a console without any internet etc and play the full game without having to download anything extra. To be honest I've lost pretty much any interest in modern consoles and AAA developers/publishers in general. When I see games being made for old consoles and they come with boxes, cartridges, manuals etc I really appreciate that.

I'm not one of those people. I miss booklets from games and box art.
It's sad to see people going away from physical media. I think it is still wonderful to see and touch physically the product you want to buy.
I'm not against digital media, I have plenty of digital games, movies, and music. But there is still great value to me when you are able to physically interact with products.

I feel like old games are just that old and even though PS3 and Xbox 360 are complete on disc, once you go SSD it’s really hard to play those games with long load times when PS5 and Series X load instantly.
The SNES and Genesis are carts and load fast and can get in and start playing but even if games are complete at release, a lot of games and bugs that never got ironed out and it was what it was

You nailed it on the modern physical stuff: What are you even really getting when you buy a modern physical game? I love having physical copies, but they are basically selling us beta versions in box that require an 80gb patch to be playable (not to mention DLCs and other features that may require an online connection). I find myself buying more games on steam because of this. In 20 years what's more likely to be around? Steam, or the sony server that patches my ps4 physical games? My guess is steam

Dude Discover online shopping. Physical stores are being phased out. Look at how many stores are disappearing for goods that are purely physical lol. GameStops sad state is their own fault.
Over 60% of sony's software sales are physical. 90% are of software sales are deep discount. The market is split and most people really don't care how they get the game and play it so long as there is a competitive market. Consoles will never be able to go full digital so long as that is a thing. Otherwise consumers will just give up on consoles.

Definitely prefer the physical copy from the older gen console Nintendo, Sega, the PS1 and PS2 era where games are majority complete and not broken on release. I even prefer the PS3 era where most game patches are optional and there's rarely any broken games on release with exception of some really bad titles. Lots of games started to be in its unfinished state during the PS4 era with performance issues and game breaking bugs. Games like The Evil Within, Assassin's Creed Unity, Days Gone and Cyberpunk 2077 are nearly unplayable on release. PS5 era is no different with broken releases like the Alone in the Dark reboot and Callisto Protocol. The worst offender is the disc that require Day One patch even with the physical copies in order to work starting from Call of Duty WW2 to the current one, MK1, Hogwarts Legacy, Avatar and Star Wars Outlaws. In face majority of games from Ubisoft now require online connection to download the game even if you own the disc. The same can be said for Activision and EA.

Yeah this generation has pretty much been manipulated to accept the practices of the gaming companies and their services on the concept of digital games. People need to be reminded at times at how powerless people are with their digital products. I mean when a company can pull a digital movie/game/music from their site what can the customer really do about that situation? Yes they can cancel their subscription or maybe get a refund on a small chance but regardless the digital product they thought they owned will still be gone. It's one of the biggest reasons why if the next gen consoles are digital only then this is the last gen game consoles I'll own.

  • @Sitzkrieg

Game developers rely on day 1 patches, hotfixes, and DLC for most modern releases. It's a shame that the game is so fragmented in multiple different aspects. To play a complete title in 2024 the game must have been released over a year ago because developers rely on patching. You also need to own all the DLC which often doubles the total price spent of game itself, and then you need to hope and pray there isn't some insane DRM preventing the game from booting without an internet connection. Old games had none of this bs. They were released as finished products and there were zero loading screens, DLC, DRM, accounts required, etc. If technology has advanced so much then why has the gaming experience been enshittified to such a degree to where people are returning to 20+ year old consoles?

I don’t blame the developers for wanting full control, which they should have back in the day. So many artists, musicians, and game creators whom have spent years on working on something…is just given away, resold, or emulated…it’s horrible. I’m all for the digital transition. It’s just know things are worth money so…time to capitalize!
Don’t get me wrong I do collect(mostly current gen) it’s just I come from a family where many ideas have been stolen, work has been exploited, and just I understand the developers side of view.
I do not agree with not completely owning something. I believe if you own the lic, you should be able to redownload forever.
Unless you sell the lic or trade, which I don’t think they will ever have any digital media sold or traded in our lifetime besides selling emails lol.

I have liked your videos but since you choose this topic I have got to ask you, who and or what defines your moral compass? For me it's Yeshua the Messiah, who is also called The Word of God. John chapters 1 and 5; 2 Timothy

I still can't call old, classic or vintage games retro... shadow of the ninja - reborn is retro. Old games are just that. The market has redefined a word that was misused by old people who didn't want to feel old so they just called old stuff retro. Kill that word and the prices will fall... probably.
Heres this old game for $200. Nah, I'll pass. Oh. How about $100 for it? But its old... Okay. $50. Problem solved. It's all branding baby.

Yup! You're correct about the censorship and removal of certain episodes in old TV shows in these streaming services! This is the Era of "snow flakes." It's unbelievable!
