My guess is prices will continue to rise as more people enter the retro and physical media community. As you stated many people are selling due to the economy, so opportunities will still present for collectors and resellers.
I'm not much of a hunter anymore myself. I find eBay is still great if you're looking for great games, and know how to use the filters and ask the appropriate questions. Also - I hate 'game store stickers' from GameStop or what have you that often ruin the collector and resale value. The worst are those metallic VOID stickers that some used game shops slam on them when you try to peel them off. Absolutely cannot stand that. It's selfish and gross on their part.
Lately, it's becoming common to find folks selling their prized games for less than they're worth. Just this week, I spotted Panzer Dragoon Saga on my local Craigslist, and it was snatched up in under an hour. I've also noticed multiple listings for Haunting Ground on PS2 from different sellers over the last three months. It looks like people are eager to sell without having to go through eBay.
Honestly, sniping on eBay has been more fruitful than buying in person. Specifically Switch and Limited Run titles I've been able to find for good value. You just have to keep a keen eye on auctions, I hardly ever buy outright.
It has gotten to a point where games that aren't even rare are going at unreasonable price range the same goes for just med or okay games. People thought they can make a fortune on retro games just because it is old or something 😂
I quit "hunting" hunting years ago. I used to go to thrift stores and flea markets constantly and would walk away with tons of stuff. I used to make craigslist deals. When I saw the increase in competition, I knew I just couldn't compete, my time, energy, and happiness are worth worth more. It got to the point where I'd pull up to garage sales minutes before to be early, while people would've already been there an hour earlier just on the off chance to get some games to resell.
Puzzle Bobble is the Game on the Neo Geo. It is called Bust a Move in Europe. There is also a NGPC Version. Cool to get so many Videos lately. You should do a Video on your favourite Controllers and Colours. 🙌🇩🇪👾
The economy will dictate what lowers the price. During hard times, people will consider selling their prized items. Paying bills or food. Will rake priority, over a collection. I return to work after spending time with my kid. I may not be interested in buying more games. Work and a family, will be the priority of time.
My neighbor left a bunch of video games out for our yearly neighborhood garbage day and they had some good ones but no one wanted them and I didn’t either. I guess I just lost the love for getting them and only a play a few that I love.
I only find junk anymore. Endless amounts of sports games which I’m not even remotely interested in unless they’re rare. Only good thing I’ve found the last few years was an Apple 2 version of Wasteland in the box with a booklet and both floppy disks. Grabbed that for 2.50$ haha
When most of the people buying are resellers, you know the price is inflated. Hopefully the price will continue to fall somewhat but I don't think that will help finding things in the wild. Most people outside the hobby already have the mindset that this stuff is gold, it will stay that way for a long time. Bought most of my collection before things went crazy in the mid 2010's, I've stopped the chase for the most part. The hunt was a big part of the fun, it's just not there anymore. It was about finding things you enjoy, not the value. I've since moved on to hunting movies and music, much more affordable and plentiful.
It’s game over, everyone for themselves…in 4 years there won’t be anything to collect anymore, cept switch 2 and that’s if they even keep making cart games 4 years from now. Majority will be games with codes inside… Hope all is well!
That's a good point, the marvel vs capcom collection was an example how in the EU, switch users got stuck with a code in their box and another I can quickly think of was sonic origins plus where the game gear games was digital code only not on the disc.
@ Y2K is right, it will be based on whom you know and what kind of relationship they have. Look at pixel they have one guy that holds everything for them at the swap meet…it’s truly different when you don’t have anyone holding things for you. It’s hard, and for people who have been doing it like that for years, it hits the gut cause just all of a sudden these young cats take away in seconds what you’ve been doing for years but not recording…that’s why I started making videos because if they are going to expose everything…I might as well kill it! Expose everything, and make the dying process a little faster…this is the end of collecting, retro is already gone. You have to network for retro already or gamestore shop, convention invite/pay for…it’s dumb but it is what it is, I’m just going all out. Who knows I might even sell it all and go all digital. In all honestly, digital is the best preservation. It exists physically without being physical. Much respect to you man…
Resellers have destroyed instore toy hunting. Theres no point if you cant make it as soon as the store opens. You bett your ass they will be there 30 mins before it opens waiting.

if more people are selling, prices will drop due to competition
I can see common games getting cheaper and the more expensive games getting further expensive.
I have done hunting before at thrift stores. But the problem is more often than not I end up with filler games and games I don’t want.
i do to but its also because i cant just leave empty handed and for a Couple bucks why not

As what Meredith Brooks said in 1997 is that "I hate the world today" too
