1) Left side should be wrapped counterclockwise, right side clockwise... when you're riding in the drops an outward twist on either side should be tightening the tape job, so right side clockwise, left side counterclockwise. 2) When you get to the top of the bar, you may need to change direction so that the tape is going from front to back over the top. Think of it like this: if you're riding with your hands on the top nearer the stem and you pull back on the tape, it should have been wrapped so that it's tightening the tape on both sides of the stem.
If a rider races, they are not just pulling on the top of the handlebar; they are also pulling on drops. The force exerted on the bar tape on the drops during a sprint is much more than cruising along on the drops. As was stated in the video, if proper installation technique was used, the bar tape should hold fine regardless - especially for leisure riding. The way I described is just typical for professional race mechanics.
Glad to see that you said that you don't need to figure 8 the wrap. If you use a clamp strip you don't need to figure 8 as that makes the wrap too bulky and changes the tape direction.
Highly recommend Kelly Bedford for your custom bike frame needs as well as HandleBra to dress it up. Great products, Highly recommend. Thanks for the tutorial Kelly.
There are some true leather stitching bar tapes that need a video on how to apply and sew them on. These are a class-act and are an asset to a true show bike or one to show off on a ride.
+mmoustache cut the inner tube in half so that you get a long straight tube and then cut in in half lengthwise to get enough to wrap both sides, apply it the same way you would bar tape and them on top apply the real tape.
Most tapes do come with an adhesive strip on the inside. The electrical tape is not necessary but it definitely makes a better sticking surface that the bare carbon or aluminum.
theres such a better looking way to do it, start at the inside, wrap once towards the stem and then go out. you wont need any electrical tape at all and it in general looks a lot cleaner, even black tape on black bar tape stands out to an extent, I cant stand my bars wrapped any other way anymore
Great stuff, guys, but please prepare before recording. Dogs barking, door bells chiming, constant ticking, ear-piercing coughing, heavy breathing etc., detract from an otherwise good video. On the positive side, bar tape looks really good quality and how refreshing to see a more mature installer rather than the run-of-the-mill 'dolly bird' or 'pretty boy' in lycra. Good stuff pop, good stuff. Thumbs up from me.
Thank you for taking the time to show others how to.

Howard Maher. Another way of putting it is to wrap away from the bike as ur looking from the perspective of the rider.
@@Bungle2010 the tape is not a metal wire, it can stretch

The last bit about the electrical tape is interesting, not heard that before. Good vid.
My handlebar tape turned out owesome. Thanks a lot. (I think mine were harder to wrap) they are Brooks leather bar tape
Thank you great video. Yo make a difficult job look so easy. I am convinced that wrapping bars is a Dark Art.
Great video. Very thorough & the close angle really makes the tutorial work. Thumbs up!

really nice tutorial. Helped me a lot. Thanks.💯

Nice jog . Would you be able to tell me where I can get the same tape
That's some classy looking handlebar wrap. Don't think I can justify a hundred or more clams for it though. Very nice job.
What's hockey tape??
I turn the bottom with cut bicycle inner tube instead of tape
joesaric1 omg thats a really good idea! Thx Joe!
Hey Joe can you be more specific about using inner tube when turning? Is that so that the electrical tape does not slip and leave its adhesive behind.
+mmoustache so that you get a thicker grip and more comfortable handlebar Vibration

sounds like someones playing ping pong in the background
Sounds like a metronome
Why doesn't bar tape come with adhesive on the inside (so unless you need more bulk, you wouldn't need the hockey tape as a base layer)?

Is that Adarga Brand Leather Bar Tape?
what bartape brand is that?
Your bars are not centered in the stem clamp! but nice tape job, can you do mine:)
I ride my bike with a backpack on... Should I get drop of bullhorn bars?
+Mason Echols don't understand your question
the more upright the better if you've got weight on your back
Good job! and good tips too! Thanks.
Is that real leather? If so what brand name?
nice, but at 8:02 he made a scratch on the handle bar paint, :/
Its wrapped in the wrong direction. Should always be towards the outside.
Thanks for the tutorial, but a little tip that I would like to recommend you is to change that camaraman!!! Cheers !
Bro y u have a leaking roof
Very nice. Thank you.
good job!
you left your camera blinkers on
It is literally in the name...it is HandleBra Brand Bar Tape.
Omg those wheels
Wrap a couple more turns then apply tape. Cut off the remaining and add one more finishing tape.
thanks for the detailed run through, maybe stop the clock next time? was a bit like water torture!!
I love Bras! Oh, wait...
I'm really good at handlebra wrapping... 😂 lmfao
thinking the same here :P
@@213ingrid I'ma better at unwrapping!
why name your channel handleBRA? lol.. good video btw
niiiiiiiiiccccceeee
Only an amateur cuts the tape straight across at the end. Cut at an angle to have a straight edge
What?

i don't understand electrical tape on a professional job
jbird Perez Professional electricians use it.
+Koop92tc very good answear ... THUMBS UP !! haha
Yes, but Tesa cloth tape is much smarter.
Hahahahaha!
wrap away from the bike
My God this is convulated. A bit like Boris Johnson trying to explain 1+2=3. "Handlebra Tutorial" sums it up. End of.
You are wrapping wrong way. Left is counterclockwise and right is lockwise.
